During this course of Managerial Economics, I first learned about the three-legged stool. Coming from a nursing background, when things are complicated, I would always break it down to basics of airway, breathing, and circulation, basic CPR. From a business perspective, I see now that I can evaluate things similarly with the stool. When matters appear out of balance, I can assess the three legs of performance evaluation, decision rights, and rewards, and then evaluate the situation with a little more clarity. I have also learned more about the performance evaluation. That it is much more complicated to put together than I imagined. While comparing my personal employee performance evaluation, I can now understand better how difficult it
In the beginning of this film, it appears these men were struggling to be truthful and honest. They were making sure it was a safe place to do so. They all came to discuss their experiences and learn from other men’s experiences. As the film went on I was impressed by their ability to continue to talk about the hard topics related to racism in our country. They all took many risks to explain their experience and question when other members’ thoughts were inaccurate within the group setting. After watching the rest of the color of fear I have seen a big change in everyone in the group, especially David Christensen.
I know that because I am a poor white female Christian, I see and interact with the world differently than others of a different status. My views differ not only because of what I am, but also where I grew up, which is a small town near the coast of North Carolina. I don't affiliate with a political party, because they all do things they should not. I worry a lot about the condition of the world and all of the countries in it. I worry for the United States of America, because people do not understand that global warming is real and that education is super important for our future. The world is a scary place with there being terrorists, psychos, broken people, innocent people in prisons and the people that are slowly breaking. While globally violence and worst forms of poverty are declining, there still continues to be some.
Moving into a country of unfamiliar traditions and eccentric society, I faced a lot of challenges. However, it was these challenges that provided me with the determination and dedication to work hard and strive for success. I was born into an athletic and educated family in Ecuador, and day after day I gave my best to achieve my gymnastics and educational goals. Falls, injuries, and tears were rewarded with reputation, pride and gold. Those medals and awards had more emotional value than material, and they came to symbolize all my effort.
The impact each system can have on such a young adult. In high school kids like Sparkle, Lawrence, and Marcus deal with issues at home, different states. The microsystem can affect other microsystems in a child’s life. Marcus was arrested and put in jail for 3 nights for fighting and possession of drugs. Marcus is not old enough to even drink, and he has already slept in jail? These experiences are clear factors that impact a child’s life. Marcus’s parents may be amazing people, but Marcus and themselves know that they have a drinking issue. With issues at home kids like Marcus tend to lash out in other social institution such as school. He gets angry and starts to fight other students leading to other consequences short and long term.
Before I stepped in Old Main 111 in the beginning of this semester, I would call myself a moral scepticist and ethical egoist. I would agree with Glaucon — in Book II of Plato’s Republic — that if a virtuous person and a rogue were given two magical rings respectively, both would take the gruesome course because they are freed from reprisal. In a Hobbesian world, moral judgments could not be true; they were simply our emotions which maximizes our pleasure. No normative moral theory would not direct us to how we ought to act.
As part of fieldwork hours I attended events several events. The two events that I loved most were a workshop and a documentary screening. The workshop at BMCC on October 12, 2017 was titled “Anti-bullying and School Violence” and the documentary, also at BMCC as part of pride month following the story of Moises Serrano, an undocumented, gay man living in North Carolina titled, “Forbidden: Undocumented and Queer in Rural America.” was screened on October 23, 2017. I learned so much through both of these events and I feel strongly about them. They taught me that children should find safety in schools, teachers should create a safe environment, and that they should know about what goes in children's lives.
Have you ever encountered a problem that you've wanted to solve, but you had absolutely no idea where to start? I seem to encounter these problems on a daily basis. Most of the time I just ignore it and move on, but this time around I decided to figure out the steps it would take to reach my goal. I've decided to make a change in my church and stop my youth group from excluding people due to their sexual orientation. This problem means a lot to me because although I'm not part of the LGBTQ community myself, I've seen my close friends who are part of that community stray from God due to the way that my youth group treats them.
Upon asking my Grammy to be my interviewee for this final project, I was relatively apprehensive- questioning if I have ever even said the word sex in front of her. A few hours after Thanksgiving lunch, I tried to bite the bullet as casually as possible, “by the way, Grammy, could I interview you for one of my history classes, I have to write a paper on a conversation?” “Sure”, she replied, “about what?” “It’s actually supposed to be your opinion about the Sexual Revolution and your experiences in it, it’s no big deal”, I quickly added. “Sure honey, I don’t know how helpful I’ll be though, I must have slept through that,” she wittily answered.
As a health care professional, it’s important to understand and work in the community. As a part of this assignment I had the opportunity to work for the Orange County Rape Crisis Center. In healthy people 2020 one of the goals is to better understand, find the trends, and preventing bullying, dating violence, and sexual violence among youth. Also, Healthy2020 focuses on the LBGTQ community as well. The Rape Crisis Center is a non-profit organization the focuses on people that had been, know someone, and educate the community about sexual violence. I had the pleasure of meeting with Gentry Hodnett. She heads the volunteers and she the coordinator of the organization. Gentry mention that their mission statement is to “stop sexual violence and its impact through support, education, and advocacy”. (G.Hodnett, personal communication, June,15,2017). Gentry and I talk about a lot of things but mostly we talked about how the company got started, and how the center impacts the community. Also, I wanted to talk about the work I did in the community.
“One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always be true to yourself and never let what somebody says distract you from your goals.” Stated once by former First Lady, Michelle Obama. The leading female exemplar emphasized how knowledge was essential for development along with advocating for higher institution erudition. Education prompted me to opportunities, exposure to modern situations, and encounters with people from various ethnic backgrounds and perspectives. Throughout my journey of education, I felt unfortunate to receive certain aspects of my education due to being teased by other children, nevertheless fortunate to acquire my current education due to the content received where I am able to contribute to my community where I confronted challenges that expanded my skill and knowledge for the future opportunities essential to assisting the community with materials obtained by TASS.
My experience this semester has truly been humbling. Not only did I gain experience but I also contributed to a higher purpose at UTA. For me this was more than just a grade or just to get to graduation, it was the foundation to a new legacy for the Communication Department. Comm Attire is now a student organization and will plan to open sometime next semester. Dr. Wigley and her future students will continue to grow and add to the project, in hopes to make it bigger and better than ever. I am excited to see what will become of Comm Attire in the future.
The first reading for this week is exploring the change in friendship during the whole lifetime. According to Brian R. Patterson (2007), among all the existing methods of analyzing relationships, the most popular is the ones that focus on microdynamic view of the friendship, which is studying the changing of relationship in a short time (p. 29). However, he argues that we should also value the development of relationship in a life-long time, which can provide a macrodynamic way to “augment microdynamic research” (Patterson, 2007, p. 30). When we are using a microdynamic approach, we focus mostly on the detailed and complicated events that happen in a relatively short period.
Among the eight intelligences displayed in the video, I’d have to say that I’d possess three out of the eight. Starting with logical-mathematical, I do quite well academically on tests and have been ever since I started school. Of course I’ve had some tests where I didn’t do as well I would’ve liked. However, I would classify myself as a proficient test-taker. Often times, I will take the logical approach to thinking and am good with working with numbers and calculations. Especially when I was young, my grandfather would force me to do a bunch of simple arithmetic and I would hate it but I’d get it done pretty easily. Specifically on the subject of math, I’ve always been quite extraordinary on the subject. In my middle school, they allowed all of us to take a test to see whether we could be placed in the advanced math class or stay in the current math class. I ended up placing in the advanced class and did math a grade level above. Currently, whenever I tell people that I’m a sophomore currently taking pre-calculus, their face is usually quite surprised and shocked. I would also add that verbal-linguistic intelligence is something I feel I possess. I am bilingual, speaking English and three dialects of Chinese; Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taishanese. My parents spoke Taishanese as well as the rest of my family but they pushed me to Chinese school when I started preschool at the budding age of five. There, I was mostly taught in Cantonese as well as a class in Mandarin. I would
Long term initiatives include the training and development of mangers, so they completely underestand how to complete and deliver a performance evaluation. Supporting this concept, Benson, Bothra, and Sharma, (2004) states that “a performance support system improves employee performance by reducing the complexity of a task, providing information the employee needs to perform” (p. 54). Truly, without overall and comprehensive training of the skills necessary to support this department, the new incumbent will add no value.
Organizations hire people early in their careers and provide them with extensive training in a number of different skills. Careers often include a number of very different positions, with promotions often made into positions that are not closely related to previous experiences. Performance appraisals are designed to facilitate cooperation rather than competition. The longer an employee has been with the company, the higher their salary will be. Compensation includes long-term incentives and benefits and is often linked to the overall performance of the organization.1
