I just started school today I'm taking English 1101. I'm very nervous about writing papers because I haven't written one in about 20 years. I'm very nervous about the grammar that I use as well as plagiarizing. I really hope that if I use one of these essay Checker programs that the plagiarizing tool won't come up on my teachers grading program as if I plagiarized whole paper because I put it in this checker
Smarthinking and Paperrater.com are tremendous assets to college students. These websites offer guidance on improving writing techniques. Within Smarthinking, the student has the option to choose what areas of evaluation are needed such as: a thesis statement, introduction/conclusion, grammar, and several other options (Smarthinking.com, 2107). Even though Paperrter.com does not allow students to choose specific areas of evaluation, it is just as beneficial as Smarthinking by providing feedback on spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, sentence styles, and vocabulary suggestions (Paperrater.com, 2017).

Another shortcoming in my procedures for writing was not utilizing a person or program to proof read my papers. So it became, during a session of self-deprecating humor with a friend I made mention of a hard fought after average grade that he remarked of using an Internet proofreading service. Of course, I loosely took it under advisement, however, I mostly scoffed it off I already spent too much time on the papers. But nonetheless, I looked into the service without success of finding the unicorn free proofreader that would change my writing. In the act of me challenging his unicorn, he decided to show me the site. Low and behold, it was as he described, it gave grammatical, spelling, vocabulary, and other writing advice based off my first
There are websites online where I can turn or type my paper into and the computer will proof read it for me. The websites are able to find mistakes and help me to correct the errors. I do not have to leave home for someone to double check my work, which can be convenient for a busy schedule. But the computer is not always able to find every single error. Something I have been having problems with are sentence fragments. Since the computer does not catch every error, it can be nice to have a person who is strong with this subject to help correct it. I am able to go to the school and have someone sit and help me with correcting my paper. It would also be nice to hear in person what I am doing wrong. With extra support and help, I am sure to succeed and become a better

For this week's discussion I was glad we are learning more about proofreading and editing a paper. I choose the article written by The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, this was a great article are shared many tips when editing and proofreading a paper. A tip that stood out to me, which I will try using when reviewing a paper, is to read your paper backwards to find any spelling errors. I have become so reliant on spell check and paper editor's, that I feel most errors will be known once checked. Reading this article I became more skeptical on solely relaying on these editor's, I will add this tip to my normal routine when proofreading my papers. Along with this method of checking a paper the article goes on to explain other ways
The few essays, that have been assigned to us, do not allow for the help of Net Tutor, due to the turn around time frame, so I wanted to share a link that I use to edit my papers. It corrects, informs you, of the following: spelling, grammar, puncuation, use of transition words, simple sentence starts,
I too was a hurry to get it done, and then turn it in at the last minute person in undergraduate school. Having the resources available that we have now would have been a benefit to me. That was a few years ago, and this time, I am ahead of schedule and proofreading. Grammarly has been helpful especially since I am getting back into the school mentality. My percentages started off not so great, but I catch myself on some grammar rules now. It alerts me when I have used past tense, at that is probably my biggest struggle. There is also a plagiarism function on Grammarly. Did you try that too? It was pretty close to the Turnitin results when I compared the two.
Even the smallest changes to a paper can become a great improvement. From the first papers completed at beginning of this course to the last papers submitted far more recently, my sentence structure, grammar, and syntax visibly improved. During the first few weeks of the course I struggled with the exclusion of verbs and tenses I used far more often than I realized. “Using passive voice to avoid attribution is, therefore, a problem. Fortunately, the solution to avoiding passive voice is relatively simple: use active verbs (Smith, 80).” After my professor informed me of my mistakes, I took advantage of the opportunities given to rewrite my papers, even when I received an acceptable grade to begin with. By doing this I found ways to improve my writing even more and followed Mrs. Patria’s guidance until I felt that I completely fulfilled the requirements. An example of this: the four word movie essay written about Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow originally received a grade of ninety percent, but when I chose to rewrite it I managed to bring the grade up to a ninety-five percent as well as learn from my mistakes.
As I progressed through my higher education, I notice a slight incline towards me having some difficulties with my punctuation in addition to finding the drive to pull words from my vast vocabulary. Which I feel is easily being address by each assignment that I complete. When needing to explain myself more than once on a similar question I resort to the thesaurus to find the means of articulating a response. Although when I would refer to my feedback, I notice only one area of concern, which relates to me needing to proofread my assignments prior to submitting them. In attempt of adopting a solution to my error, I found web-based software that has been assisting me through providing a second pair of eyes along with Microsoft word and reading over the assignment for the final time prior to submitting it has help greatly. Alongside using software, I plan to benefit from the tutoring services GCU (Grand Canyon University) offers online through their “Student Success Center”.
