I just started school today I'm taking English 1101. I'm very nervous about writing papers because I haven't written one in about 20 years. I'm very nervous about the grammar that I use as well as plagiarizing. I really hope that if I use one of these essay Checker programs that the plagiarizing tool won't come up on my teachers grading program as if I plagiarized whole paper because I put it in this checker
After writing a paper, Grammarly and SafeAssign, located on the Walden website, help edit a student’s work. Grammarly looks at grammatical errors, such as punctuation and spelling, while SafeAssign looks for text that might be plagiarized. It was helpful for me to identify some of the mistakes made while writing my paper, and I will certainly use Grammarly more often during my writing process.
The primary aim of English 1101 is to prepare the student to effectively communicate, and identify or create new knowledge in various spheres of life. English 1101 assisted me to have control over the writing conventions through extensive writing practice or reading, guided by evaluations and feedbacks from my course instructor. The course contains several topics namely; effective writing processes, rhetorical organizations methods, academic writing formats and styles, critical reading skills, researching, and citing the researched sources.
I learned many lessons in my English 1301 class, but there are three specific ones I liked the most, writing a research paper, using transition words in an essay, and to attend to class. Most of these lessons are a daily basis and I used them or do them in different subjects without noticing it. The daily work in this class helped me improve these three lessons. It also helped me overtake some of the works I had in other subjects.
Unlike reading, when writing, it is important that grammar, spelling and vocabulary terms are used correctly, therefore restricting me from writing in the way that I would prefer. The most stressed phrase while in high school was, "It is not the content of the essay, but rather the mechanics of grammar and speech that are most prominent." Unfortunately, I have never been one to enjoy the art of writing. In fact, I was recently given a diagnostic test, determining at which level I write and whether or not I should be upgraded to a higher achieving English class. Unfortunately, I did not pass the test with flying colors. This was not due to the fact that I am incapable of writing a good paper, but rather that I am unable to write in a limited amount of time, using the emphasized principles of correct; grammar, vocabulary and spelling. In the reading, Shitty First Drafts, by author Anne Lamott, it is a fact that in order to write a brilliant paper, a first draft must be created. According to Lamott, "The Only way I can get anything written at all is
While taking taking English 1302 with prof. Innis, i learned so much stuff that was useful to me in college. Every student should be able to say a few things they have learned from a class after they finished with it, and that's what I am here to do today. During this class period i learned how to manage time, stop procrastinating a lot, and finally i learned to become a better writer. All of these improvement made me a better student, and I am grateful for it.
What ideas about discovery does this text convey and what techniques does the composer use to
In a span of five weeks, one can learn an immense amount of information. My experience in English 1301 has already taught me many different things. Coming into this class, I expected to discover many new concepts that I had yet to learn while also incorporating some past knowledge that I had already obtained. I have discovered things that I didn’t know at all, things that I don’t know how to do but expect to learn, and things that I know how to do but need to perfect.
Throughout this past semester, I came to enjoy visualizing my ideas and transferring them into writing through finding the meaning behind images. In English 1102, I was able to create topics and techniques that I had interest in. I discovered that I like to use visual details and imagery as evidence to make my arguments. If I consider the time frame along with visual details, I can push my arguments further to make predictions and deeper analyses of the character’s life. Combining visual art and time has been an inspiration for my work this year, not only in English 1102, but in my personal projects as well.
Punctuation and grammar are major problems of mine when it comes to my writing. Semicolons and colons are my main problem areas. I have gone on countless websites trying to understand their usage better, still with no luck. I know their definitions, but applying them tends to be the problem. It is very frustrating to have a A paper turn into a C paper just because of a few mistakes. As for grammar, many times I will change the tenses in my writing without even noticing it. Occasionally I catch my mistakes, although I still miss a few. Over the summer practicing grammar and punctuation with my ACT prep tutor has benefited me immensely, hopefully what I learned can translate into my writing throughout the school year. Spelling is another problem of mine; I have struggled with it since I was younger. Over time spelling has stopped me from using more sophisticated words in my papers, which leads to my papers to seem a bit juvenile. Without autocorrect I would not know what I would do, however, I naturally wish to know how to spell certain words and not rely on a
Every student knows that feeling when your English teacher tells you write an essay, and your mind just blanks. This continues to spiral downwards until the due date arrives, leaving you sobbing quietly at your blank document. This problem has been plaguing people for years; however, I have found the perfect solution, which I ask you to consider as you read this.
All throughout the years of being an English student, have been truly challenging for me. When writing essays, overthinking on what to write on always ended in a mess, either I went off topic or just forgot the prompt. Therefore, the teacher got after me all the time. After writing an essay, the teacher will tell the students to give our essays to another student, so they can proofread it and grade it. As I read another student’s essay individually, I will just go off reading, without finding any misspelled words or any punctuation errors. Then, after every student finished proofreading the essays, they handed yours back. Whenever I got my paper back, I will investigate all the blue ink, the highlights, little paragraphs in the margins, question
I can enter my papers into Paperrater and get an estimate on what my grade will be like. I can also use a thesaurus to make sure that I do not repeatedly use the same words throughout my paper. I can have fellow peers and my sister proofread, edit, and offer tips to me for papers before turning them in. My sister has always been someone that I have gone to do some editing. She is great at finding grammatical errors and comma placemtnet errors. I am very thankgul that I have a sister that is so talented when it comes to writing. After viewing the corrections I have decided that I will use the provided links to help improve my writing. I have taken a look at them in the past but I believe that I am able to spend more time reviewing them. One last thing that I have decided to do is make sure I look at the rubric for each individual paper in order to make sure I include all the things required and make sure I double check the different points that will be
I went to the Preston Ridge Writing Center to complete my lab. A lady named Darcy was my tutor and she started off the session by having me read my essay aloud. I had a few grammatical errors consisting of misspelled words, punctuation inside quoted text, and lack of determiners. I was told that I shouldn’t “write how I text”.
English IV is only really gonna be used in college and for people that are gonna be a authors or someone that writes ,so therefore i’m really not really worried about using writing when i’m out of college. The only place I will be using this writing stuff is in college ,because i plan to be an electritian in the future and they do not write essays on a daily bases. This still doesn’t mean that I want be ready to write essays in the future. The future is something I can’t really talk about because you really never knows what will
