This analysis will take a look at some of the ways that Indiana University-Purdue University of Fort Wayne can improve on their annual security and fire safety report for the upcoming year. While the report is 77 pages long, this analysis will only focus on pages 22-32. Also giving examples of what they did well, what might want to be revised, and what can be implemented to create a better all-around report.
Taking a look at page 22 on IPFW’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report 2015 the first word of the sentence is missing a letter, reading Th instead of The. IPFW should make a priority on making sure that there are no spelling, capitalizing, punctuation, or grammar mistakes on their reports due to the loss of credibility. Throughout every

This is one of the mistakes that IPFW could’ve fixed if they took their time to double check what they wrote and posted. According to this report IPFW has fire sprinkler systems and redundant fire alarm monitoring that goes on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Also they are looking to make improvements and revisions when problems arise, so you can acknowledge that this school is extremely prepared for fire accidents and fire disasters. IPFW has one fire drill per semester and they discuss the evacuation procedures with the newly moving in students, showing them a fire training video, showing them how to handle a fire extinguisher, and telling them where all exit doors are …show more content…
Allowing for these improvements will enable the handbook to clear up some of the questions and concerns that a student may be pondering. These examples will improve IPFW’s credibility, ease the student body, and will translate to more readily available information. In turn, the students will become more attentive to their own personal security. As well, it will allow them to fully understand the actions needed for their optimal security and well-being, in the case of an uprising
Security and safety is the most important aspects in a security setting. The techniques that officers use to ensure security and safety are enhancing through the advancements in technology. Changes have been significant from the time before computers and the current status of high-tech computers and other technology. The changes have brought both positive and negative effects to security settings; however, the changes have been more positive than negative. Creating a safe and secure environment can create a positive atmosphere for everyone involved, so nothing could be more important than communicating the ways to
Inherently the fire service operates in high-risk environments to facilitate the role of preserving life safety and property conservation. How these incidents are managed and safeguarded by our administration
Nowadays, it is almost impossible to find a building that does not have exit signs or fire extinguishers in America. Whether in a university or at the work place, exit signs and fire safety instructions can easily be found by anybody. Fire drills are regularly practiced to ensure the least amount of casualty will occur if something goes wrong. However, a hundred years ago safety issues were barely taken into considerations and safety regulations were most of the time inexistent, as illustrates the terrible fire that happened a hundred years ago at the Triangle
Having adequate resources, including personnel, equipment, and water is essential to a successful operation. Improper implementation of the ICS system, as well as not having accountability for the firefighters involved in a fire as large as the Pawtucket event, are serious safety issues that could have proved disastrous for the firefighters in this incident. Safety is the first rule in firefighting with the end goal that everyone goes
There was no sprinkler system inside this building but could have stopped the fire within a minute or seconds after the system turned on. This is another way that the fire could have been easily stopped before it turned into the massive tragedy that has been talked about as one of the deadliest catastrophes in New York City before 911. The New York Fire Department did everything they could to help extinguish the fire, but their ladders only went to the 6th floor, and the fire hoses didn’t reach past the 7th floor. This department had the most advanced equipment in the country and still wasn’t enough technology to save these women from burning to death. Some women chose to jump 80 feet to their death to avoid being burned to death, which is no way to die. “Within 18 minutes, it was all over. Forty-nine workers had burned to death or been suffocated by smoke, 36 were dead in the elevator shaft and 58 died from jumping to the sidewalks. With two more dying later from their injuries, a total of 145 people was killed by the fire. The workers union set up a march on April 5 on New York’s Fifth Avenue to protest the conditions that had led to the fire; it was attended by 80,000 people.” (History.com Staff, "Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire,"
The rising number of high severity wildfires in California has significant ecological, economic, and health impacts. Many western American forests are adapted to frequent low severity fires. However, the majority of these forests, and particularly the mixed conifer forests of California, are not adapted to high intensity fires and do not possess fire resistance adaptations such as serotinous cones to protect seeds. Consequently, high severity fires have significant negative impacts on California forests, and the absence of low severity fires has considerably altered many fundamental ecosystem processes (Miller et al. 2008). Prior to 1900, low severity fires would burn every 6-15 years. Low severity fires are generally non-lethal, have minimal change to the overstory, and kill mainly small trees. In the past, these fires were started naturally by lightning, or by Native Americans who used low severity fires to manage the forests.
In October 8, 1871,Chicago,Illinois was a city ready to burn by the nightmare of wood.

I would disagree with the statement that "A prudent fire chief steers clear of politics.” All fire departments run on some kind of funding. Without the proper funding then the department either cannot adequately staff apparatus or are forced to cut back in response abilities or additional programs and personnel. Money for funding often comes from the political area and government programs. This is just one of the crucial reasons that "A prudent fire chief" would actually in fact be well involved in politics, creating relationships with individuals that could grow to be influential in decision making. In addition, to overseeing all operational aspects of the department, a chief is a representative of the department
Ladder 1 and 5, Rescue 1, and Car 3 by 6:18pm. At this time Incident Commander number one request dispatch to strike a second alarm due to the size of the building and with the second alarm Engines 2, 16, aerial scope 2, and car 2 are all dispatched to the scene. At 6:20pm Incident Commander number one request building information from dispatch but no building plans were ever found creating confusion on how the interior of the building was designed. At 6:26pm Incident Commander one enters the building through a door from the first floor and goes up the stairway into the second floor where the fire originated as well as Engine 13 and Ladder 1 who report that elevator shafts were engulfed into fire. Incident commander number one reports there was possibly two homeless people still in the building and at 6:31pm Incident commander number two comes on scene in Car 2. Three crews from Engine 1, Ladder 1, and Rescue 1 were inside the building reporting the spread of fire and all work their way up the stairway to the roof to cleared a skylight and had it completely vented and started to descend down the stairs while each crew performed search-and-rescue sweeps of each floor for the homeless victims and fire extension checks. They also have 2 ½ inch hose line and 1 ¾ inch hose line on the second and third floor coming up the stairway for an offensive
Fire district 13 is located in the forested valleys and steep foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range at the base of Mount St. Helens. Access to our district, primarily reached by one main county road, is limited. With automatic mutual aid to neighboring districts with, major rail, and freeway- interoperability is key. Located above the Cascadia Subduction zone, Clark County is due for a catastrophic earthquake. The area that includes fire district 13 is a transitional zone between unoccupied forest land and human development. Being a part of the wildland urban interface zone puts us at a higher risk for wildfires.
“Who you gonna call? Ghost Busters” (Brillstein & Reitman, 1984). In 1984, a very popular comedy movie “Ghostbusters” hit the big screen and this quote from the movie seemed to stick in everyone’s head. Today, the question that seems to be raised when there is a crisis or emergency situation is “Who you gonna call? The fire department”. In today’s society, the fire service has become the “catchall” for every kind of emergency. Do you agree? Fighting fire is still a big part of the fire service, “in 2015, every twenty-three seconds a fire department was responding to a fire” (NFPA (Ed.), 2015). However, the fire service has evolved from just “putting the wet stuff on the red stuff” mentality, to a profession of highly trained and skilled firefighters. Ever since the discovery of fire there has been a need for methods to manage it if, and when, it gets out of control. Throughout history, to keep up with the changing environment in which we live, civilization and the fire service have made numerous changes. With fewer fires, and more products being manufactured from plastics and other dangerous chemicals, the fire service must be vigilant in developing new methods to keep firefighters safe and justify their job while providing the most efficient service for the citizens.
The focus of this assessment is to identify safety concerns about the physical structures of the University of Texas at San Antonio Downtown campus. Throughout the assessment there were several safety issues that were noted those which include but are not limited to lack of ramps, proximity of buildings, placement of cameras, parking lot safety, place of emergency evacuation chairs, placements of fire extinguishers and AED’s. It is very important to be aware of safety concerns students, faculty, and staff may encounter to keep the university not only safe but also secure.
