When I think of anger, I think of a passionate emotion that can ignite fires within people, and motivate them to act. A common result of anger is protests. Fueled by anger, crowds of people surge against a common threat to make change occur. The first images that come to mind of an anger-fueled protest are those filled with violence and those types cause some sort of destruction, similar to the “Ferguson Riots”. This year, 2016, has seen a few of these demonstrations make it to mainstream media. For example, the protests directly following Trump’s presidential victory that involved flag burnings. Anger can certainly lead to aggression but they are not the same thing. Anger is ”a strong feeling of displeasure and belligerence aroused by a wrong”(dictionary.com). It is an emotion that causes people to be alert and calls them to action. In the article “Five Things to Know About Anger”, Dr. Martin says that “Much like hunger motivates us to eat, thirst motivates us to drink, and fear motivates us to avoid things that are dangerous, anger motivates us to respond to confrontation and unfairness,” and unlike misconceptions have most people believe, anger can be expressed in multiple ways that can allow someone to remain at peace or turn to violence. Surrounding many of Trump’s rallies, minorities and “Anti-Trump” protesters were verbally and physically attacked by the candidate's supporters.
