After watching the two videos in class about growth and fixed mindsets I have found out the differences between the two different mindsets. The two different mindsets are growth mindset and fixed mindset. To have a growth mindset you are not afraid to push yourself. If you have a fixed mindset you tend to hide from challenging yourself and you accept the outcome even if it means failure. People with growth mindsets tend to grow while people with fixed mindsets are fixed in the position that they’re in and they are not going to go anywhere because they are afraid to challenge themselves.

A few of the advantages of possessing a Growth Mindset includes seeing your flaws as an opportunity to grow, having a more risk-taking personality, and leading a happier, healthier life. To fail is to succeed. Most people have had failure in their life from minor upsets to major problems, such as your favorite football team losing to getting rejected from a college. A fixed mindset would take that as a problem of their team losing, while the growth mindset would see that as an opportunity to put in new players and fresh faces. A fixed mindset would see being rejected from a college as a missed opportunity and they will never get accepted to any college, while a growth mindset could see that as an obstacle and apply to a college that they would never have thought of. The problem with this "fixed mindset" is that when things get difficult, kids who have been praised for performing smart, become insecure. They will believe that because they do not know the answer, they are not smart. This causes them to run away from challenges and fail to apply themselves. A person's attitude towards their level of intelligence determines their potential growth. Having a fixed mindset inhibits your intellectual growth, though believing intelligence is a potential, you are focused and motivated to apply yourself to difficult tasks in order to grow.
People have mindsets, Fixed and Growth mindsets. Some people respond With a fixed mindset means that people`s intelligence is “fixed” or permanent.
But, I want to share with you what people with fixed mindset think and how people with growth mindset think. And, I look at the fixed mindset and think this was me. I was stuck in this place and it just destroyed me. It kept me from doing anything that made me happy and what I enjoyed. Nowadays, I still have to catch myself and think that if I made a mistake or something happens to my business that was not suppose to go as planned, I think man, “Is this really where I’m supposed to be?”
Dweck believes that someone who possesses a “growth mindset” is almost the polar opposite of someone who has a “fixed mindset.” A person with a growth mindset is able to think positively and see the silver lining of an unfavorable situation. They are able to improve from their mistakes, and always finds a way to become better at different aspects of life. Growth mindsets come with an open mind, making these people extremely versatile in any circumstance. In addition, their mindsets increase in complexity through maturity. They believe that as long as anyone puts in the effort, they have the potential to succeed.

Students with a “fixed” mindset believe that they are born with a specific set of talent and they are limited by those talents. They will fell that they reached their expected ability, consequently stop trying. If the student has a “growth mindset”, they believe that if a concept is challenging, it will provide them an opportunity to learn a new concept. They also believe that there are no restrictions due to inherited ability.
The fixed mindset, while it has played a significant role in my life, does not help me cope well with failure. Near the end of chapter one, after the bad grade and parking ticket scenario, it is noted that, “You don’t have to have one mindset or the other to be upset . . . Yet those people with the growth mindset were not labeling themselves and throwing up their hands” (Dweck 9). With this in mind, it is rather clear that the growth mindset tends to produce notably more positive reactions in comparison to the fixed mindset. The positivity is something that I want more of in my life.
Either one has a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. According to Dweck’s, a fixed mindset is when one creates a certain personality, intelligence, and a certain moral character-well. I like how she not only describes a fixed mindset, but how she describes that one needs to prove that having a fixed mindset comes with a healthy dose of personalities. I also believe that a fixed mindset means that either one believes he is good or bad at something. According to Dweck, a fixed mindset is also based on one’s inherent nature, that’s just the way one is. “Believing that your qualities are carved in stone-the fixed mindset-creates an urgency to prove yourself over and over” (86). By reading the book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success people are able to determine if they are fixed-mind set or growth mind set. There are many people across the world who are fixed-mind set and believe that their abilities and intelligence cannot change. They dwell on the problems at hand and fail to recognize alternative ways to solve them. This group tends to have low self-esteem so they will prove themselves to others so they can feel superior academically or skilled related. If they fail at their task, they become more concerned with other’s thoughts, which diverges them from the actual objective. On the other hand, growth mind set is completely different from fixed-mind set. Growth mind set is someone who accepts the problem and thinks of a positive or useful way to fix the issue. This person believes that their strengths and weakness can grow with time and practice. These two mind sets help scientists explain why people act differently when faced with the same difficult situation.
Regardless of what your mindset is at this moment, the most important thing for you to know - and accept - is that your mindset is not carved in stone. Your mindset is what YOU choose to operate with. You have the power to be the person you want to be by choosing to think from that particular perspective. This is the essence of mindset... this is where you decide who you are going to be AND how you are going to do it.
Any mistake they endure shows that these traits and characteristics are in some way at fault. People with the fixed mindset live life evading failure and challenges. If a mistake is made they are quick to avoid it or blame it on others rather than learn from the experience. A fixed person doesn’t want to fail so they stick with what they know; therefore, there is no growth. Everything they do is an effort, they don’t feel as smart as others, whether they are or not, and therefore they don’t act as confident in their actions. There are many ways a growth mindset can affect an individual. Commonly growth mindsets have a more positive effect on your life. The mindset you attain, growth or fixed, is dependent on the views you adopt from a young age. There are much more pros than cons for a growth-minded person compared to a fixed minded person. One of the ways growth mindset is more beneficial than a fixed mindset is that intelligence is developed over time. A growth mindset is associated with the desire to learn and the ability to continue despite an obstacle, whereas fixed mindset is associated with the desire to appear smart and will give up easier when faced with an obstacle. A few more differences between the two are growth mindset focuses on learning from criticism and is inspired by others' success, while fixed mindset ignores useful feedback and is threatened by others' success.
