Whenever people visit Northwest Florida, the first thing that comes to mind are the area’s crystal-white sand beaches, turquoise water, and lush forests. It might come as a surprise to visitors that the region is also home to several excellent wineries. A number of area wineries produce native grown and natural Muscadine vines consisting of either grape, a blend of exotic or citrus fruit.
The vineyards, some not much larger than a backyard offer wine tasting and tours with the option to purchase some of these excellent wines.

Four types of wines are produced on the vineyard's 100 acres, thought to be the largest individual vineyard in the State of Florida. They include Noble, Carlos, Welder, and Magnolia, while their award winning Muscadine wines are grown at their Kyotee Vineyards some 35 miles away. Tours are available showing the production process of the fine wine.
Emerald Coast Wine Cellars
Emerald Coast Wine Cellars offers a wide selection of wines produced from native Muscadine grapes, blueberries and blackberries. Other types of wines made available include premium Cabernet, Chardonnay, Merlot and White Zinfandel. The winery is located in Destin, Florida and offers complimentary wine tasting.
Monticello Vineyards and Winery
Monticello Vineyards and Winery is owned by Ladybird Organics. The Florida winery is situated on a small 50-acre farm and is USDA certified organic. The winery produces more than 18 varieties of Muscadine grapes that are grown in the vineyard along with white varietals of Carlos and Magnolia. Regardless, Oregon is still a very successful state for growing wine. There are 18 AVA’s, or American Viticultural Area, in Oregon. The most popular one of them all is Williamette Valley, located just south of Portland. Williamette Valley is also the largest AVA in the state of Oregon, being around 5,200 Square Miles. Williamette Valley is notoriously linked to Pinot Noir because of David Lett. Despite how popular Williamette Valley is, the valley has remained mostly small scale, and attracts a “different” kind of wine maker. Within Williamette Valley, there are 6 AVA’s that associate themselves with the Valley, but their climate, location and soil type make it noteworthy to know of these specific areas. One of these sub-appellations is known as the Dundee Hills. Just under 7,000 acres of land, this AVA has over 25 Wineries which have produced over 44,000 cases of wine. This specific area is known for its Pinot Noir, where 7 wineries have won recognition from international wine experts. Another Oregon AVA is the Applegate Valley located in Southern Oregon, and is a sub-appellation of the Rogue Valley AVA. I actually travel to Chautauqua Institute a couple times a year and while you fly into Buffalo, New York, the drive to Chautauqua is lined with miles and miles of vineyards. This is a trip I love to make every chance I get, to see the beauty of this countryside as well as these vineyards, as far as the eye can see. It is wine country with over 50 miles straight of vineyards and, and all feeding off Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake (“Lake Erie Wine Country” n.d.).

The check in at our next lodging venue is not until 3:00 PM, so we swiftly head towards our next activity: Ambassador Winery Tour for $540 total and an hour and ten minute drive. This tour includes a beautiful and calm train ride to several wineries that begins at 10:30 AM, with lunch included. The first stop is at Charles Krug Winery, a St. Helena AVA, that is one of the oldest wineries in Napa Valley, founded in 1861 by the Russian immigrant, Charles Krug. Fort Bragg is a sleepy town in Northern California that once bustled with a logging industry that has long since subsided. While it's still a working-class city, tourism in the area has grown in recent decades as people come from all over to enjoy the scenic coastline, the impressive redwoods, and the very drinkable wine. While the best vineyards in Mendocino County are further inland, a few wineries have been able to flourish closer to the ocean. Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates from Canada's Okanagan Valley to Lebanon's Beqaa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognized through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with other red grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From France the grape spread through Europe and to the New World wine regions where it found new homes in California and New Zealand where it is now highly regarded as Hawks Bay’s top wines. For most of the 20th century, it was the world's most widely planted premium red wine grape, although that accolade is now held by Merlot.
