Management of Food Allergies in Children
This study is an attempt to provide information to families of children suffering from food allergies and suggestions to manage their new reality, as well as to bring awareness to the general public. A person can become allergic to any food at any point of their lives, whether as a baby or as an older adult, but the most common reported allergic reactions are to eggs, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat and soy. Although many feel that seeds should also be included.
To become allergic to a specific food the person has had to have consumed it at least once in their lives, in that way the human body had been sensitized.

Reactions range from mild to anaphylaxis, which is severe and potentially deadly. To illustrate how common food allergies are becoming FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) informs that research estimate up to 15 million Americans are affected by the disease, specifically one in every 13 children, and the CDC (Centers for Disease and Control Prevention) released a study in 2013 informing that food allergies among children increased approximately 50% between 1997 and 2011. Food allergies, affects as many as 6% of young children and 3% to 4% of adults. Food-induced allergic reactions are responsible for a variety of symptoms involving the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and respiratory tract and might be caused by IgE-mediated and non–IgE-mediated (cellular) mechanisms. Recently in 2013, the School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act was enacted amending the Public Health Service Act, specifically asthma-related grants for child health services, giving additional preference to a state that allows self -administration of asthma and anaphylaxis medication and protects the school personnel from liability when they administer epinephrine to a student reasonably believed to be having an anaphylactic reaction. Also requires such schools to maintain a supply of epinephrine in a secure location that is easily accessible to trained personnel for such treatment, and always have on premises during operation hours personnel trained in administration of epinephrine.
