The Founding Fathers envisioned a republican America that would protect the freedoms and unalienable rights of each of its citizens. Following the American Revolution, blacks, Native Americans, and other non-white groups hoped that the new American ideals of equality and independence would transcend color, ethnicity, and race. Republicanism, upon which the nation was founded, was shortly proven to be a facade masking the corrupt intentions of the US’s political leaders. The dominant white minority of America strived for westward expansion, and would achieve many gains throughout the 19th century. Often overlooked, the cotton gin was a driving force in westward expansion, the continued brutal treatment and destruction of native peoples, the growth of slave trade, and the advancement of the northern and southern economies. With the increased profitability of cotton, the hope of enslaved blacks for freedom was quickly extinguished and the growing tension between the North and the South hailed the advent of the Civil War. The 1800s, due to the widespread use of the cotton gin and access to new lands through the Louisiana Purchase, would be characterized by an era of corruption and would would affirm the deceptive nature of Thomas Jefferson and the American republican ideals he promoted. The United States of America is a young country. A little over 241 years old, America still has many more growing pains she needs to go through before the vision of the Founding Fathers can be achieved. Although the nationalism found in her citizens is near intrinsic, the shortcomings of America must not be overlooked.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth”. It is not too late to achieve this dream. America was founded in 1776 upon the ideas of equality and the right to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” (Jefferson). The Constitution was later hashed out in Philadelphia in the hot summer of 1789 followed by the Bill of Rights to ensure these expressed rights to the people. The Constitution clearly states in the preamble that the sole purpose of the U.S. government is “to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure
“ ‘Merika,” land of the free and home of the brave. America is one of the strongest countries in the world, even though we only have the second largest military. I think America needs to change. America needs to change because we need a bigger punishment for rapists and murderers, we need better gun control, and we need a stronger military.
The United States of America. A country that promises its citizens life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But what do we, The Citizens, do if those promises are not being kept? I have one word for you: Calexit.
The United States was founded on a collection of core values that were officially declared on July 4th, 1776. America held steadfast in those beliefs and a nation was built with those basic building blocks, which helped America become one of the world’s most coveted places to live. Over the years, the values have diminished so much that America’s founding fathers would not recognize the country that they fought so hard to keep from the British. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are no longer connecting themes among American society.
Lastly, America needs to build a bunch of wealth and give a bunch of it away. This concept is for the government and her people because when one gives and it becomes a habit, that person is forever changed. It reminds them that it’s not all about them. It’s not about getting a bunch of stuff that they can’t afford to impress people that they don’t even like. It’s about taking care of your neighbor; it’s about being a selfless person and nation in a selfless world. America needs to invest in herself again, because the best invest one
The United States is not the greatest country in the world. However, for a very long time, people have believed that the United States tops the list. This is because of the classic lifestyle and technological advancements portrayed in our daily media. The United States is portrayed as a country of peace and optimum harmony. Consequently, we get the impression that United States is the best place to be. The younger generation seems to enjoy life to the fullest with almost no regrets. After all, most of us can drive a car at the age of 16; compare that to other countries at 18. We have access to pretty much whatever we need. Most adults are not constantly monitoring and hovering over their children. They have jobs and financial prosperity is
In 2015 the major problems in the US were economical, educational, poverty, homelessness, immigration, justice and civil liberties. In order to become a stronger nation, The United States needs to aid and fix the problems of the country itself and its citizens before any foreign aid is given or supplies distributed to other countries.
The United States has been known as the “Land of the Free,” “Land of the brave,” and many more other referral words that make it a great nation. It is known from history as the land where everyone is welcome and can make great life. The history of the United States is profound with its rise to the top as the country that is most powerful after the fall of European giants. The opportunities that the land offered to its settlers have continued to be felt till date. But of importance is the freedom from tyranny that America offers its citizens. Culminated in the Constitution is the fact that the country takes seriously individual liberty and this can be seen through important events in the past (Farber & Sherry,
America has always been viewed as the richest and freest nation in the world. America has grown from thirteen self-governed states, to a nation with a strong central government of power and wealth. The change in society has allowed the U.S. to grow into what it is today. Without the change in views and the responsibility of the citizens the economy would have never grown to be strong and wealth. The nation is effected by many different variables. One variable effects the other. The nation was started and has progressed to where it is today, but with rises and downfalls in all areas of life from education and small families to economics and large businesses.
America is a great nation that posed as a symbol of happiness and freedom for many people around the world. The government provided the people with many benefits for needy people, such as free health care plan, food stamp, etc. all of those good stuffs is provided to the people that are living in the U.S. However, that is also making people became lazy and abuse the welfare system. One example is that how teenage mothers are not avoiding teen births, most of them are having more babies at the age of eighteen to nineteen again after having an offspring already at the age of fifteen to sixteen. Evidence of teen pregnancy rates in our country today is so
“ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” (John F. Kennedy). The United States of America is based upon principles of personal liberties and freedoms. A lack of government interference is the foundation of American life and the “American Dream”.
