Every year my family and I would decide on the country to visit for our Fourth of July family vacation. It has been a tradition of ours for a while now. Our goal is to visit all of the countries in the world and learn about the many different cultures for ourselves. We are all humans at the end of the day and we are all similar in more ways than we realize. The reason is that we just don’t want to remain complacent in a comfortable bubble, due to the fear of the unknown or false information. Therefore, our next destination would be to Africa, particularly South Africa. After reading various blogs from the study abroad students at Temple University, two of the blog posts had captured my interests because both of their locations were in Africa. …show more content…
Her story was very inspirational and courageous. It reminds us that it only takes one step to make a difference and cause a change in this world. She didn’t just settled on things about the Cape Town behind her computer or unmerited sources. She was very excited about this trip of a lifetime, and was counting the days till her departure. She didn’t know what to expect, but took the chance. Once she reached, she was an awe of her new surroundings and became totally immersed with Cape Town. She did things that she wouldn’t have the luxury to do in her home town of Philadelphia and looked forward to something new on a daily basis. She encounter some ignorant individuals whom were in denial of racism and think that racism no longer exists. She briefly touched on racism that had and still occurs in Philadelphia as well as in Cape Town and many other places. She just couldn’t understand how some peoples continue to enjoy the privileged system while other people are continually oppressed. She ended up spending a day with Linawo children’s home for the orphanages and was touched to do something about the children’s poor living conditions. She ended up establishing “Groove to move” fundraiser to raise money in order to buy a new home for the Linawo’s orphanage children. Her small gesture brought over two hundred diverse group of people to help raise the funds and bring awareness. The
The Jungle Cruise attraction in the Magic Kingdom and the Safari ride in the Animal Kingdom are two rides that I’ve been on countless times; I never realized how they perpetuate the common stereotypes and misconceptions of Africa. They include figures (Africans) in tribal garments, decorated masks, and wild animals. They ride pokes fun at these misconceptions and people believe them as truth and continue to view Africa as this exotic and savage country. When I read about the man who moved from a country in Africa to the United States, expecting to encounter lots of women and have lots of sex, I was surprised at the misconceptions that other countries must hear about our country. It’s amazing to think about how long I’ve believed many of the things I know about Africa have been a lie. Reading these two chapters motivated me to research more on the internet to see what I could find, compared to what is stated in the
While many people wouldn't have the courage to go down to D.C. and talk about something so personal she did anyways and spoke out to make an impact. This inspired me and show me how it is important to fight for yourself and what you
Amazing how a little girl can make history and contribute so much to society. Despite the things she went through she stayed strong. She is great influence to all of us. Like Bridges says,“Don’t follow the path. Go where there is no path and begin the trail. When you start a new trail equipped with courage, strength and conviction the only thing that can stop you is

She indicated women’s rights and wanted to change our community to make it safer. After the giant incident her words were simple, but touching. She encouraged change and wanted it for the others who had survived. She said, ‘‘This is not the first time girls have been burned alive in the city. Every week I must learn of the untimely death of one of my sister workers. Every year thousands of us are maimed. The life of men and women is so cheap and property is so sacred. There are so many of us for one job it matters little if 146 of us are burned to death’’(Wikipedia). She was a feminist who worked her life out for what was just. Her words were harsh and full of anger. She felt that time was going back to slavery again where blacks were condemned to work for long hours where whipping was frequent, but rather at this time it was not only blacks, but rather all low class who had to work for long hours and body pain was usual. Her words reflect that this issue has been happening for a long time and the efforts to stop it haven’t been
only did she do research but she also joined the community. She did fieldwork, and interviews of the people who were actually living that life. She became part of the community so that she can better understand what it is that’s going on. She went in there and asked all the necessary
So, she moved to Egypt and Ghana for a while to write-freely. Not only did she write, but she excelled at it and being an African American female with knowledge she was bound to encounter discrimination. While she was in Ghana, she met one of the most historical African American activists, Malcolm X, and decided to come back to America to accommodate him build his organization. Sadly, not much time went by when he was assassinated after her return. During her return to America, she was convinced by friends and family to write about her adolescent life, including the trials and tribulations she

Her life, marked by being abandoned by her nonchalant parents, dealing with racism and poverty, sexual assaults and following traumatic consequences, was not an easy one. It is indeed her strong character which enabled her to become a renowned representative of her society: even when problems were everywhere, she strives to overcome them. Being an Southern, African-American without parents, she was "caged"
A Lot of people knew her for standing up for herself not only that but for racism and her country. She changed history by refusing to give up her seat on a public bus to a white man. People sit here and think she's a bad person and others sit her and thank her she didn't want to give up her sit it just that she was tired of being treated differently. Where she grew up changed her mindset and made her who she is today which is strong. This quote I
I also liked her relationship with her friends at Williamson and her boyfriend. Regardless of her skin color and the neighborhood she was from, they treated her equally. Her family and friends and people in the community supported her and pushed her to speak up to make justice for
Finally, she was a global inspiration. She inspires people every day to stand up for what they believe in and not shy away. we will forever live by her standards and continue her beliefs to do what is needed for equality.
In her early life she wrote about things that no-one ever wrote about such as her being sexually abused, racism, single-parenting, and her being in part of the civil rights movement. She experienced first hand racism. When she was seven years old, she got raped by her mother’s boyfriend. She was a civil right activist.
There are certain memories that we have that we can remember like they happened yesterday. Many of those memories that have special meaning to me were of family vacations when I was young growing up with my brothers and sisters. Family memories are important to many of us because they take us back to a time or place that was special. One particular family vacation I remember vividly, and it’s a story I have shared with my kids on many occasions. Over the 40 or more years since that memorable vacation, I still smile and think how lucky I was growing up with a mother and father that did everything to give their kids an unforgettable memory.
