It is the responsibility of the school leaders to help teachers grow in their practice to improve student learning. Charlotte Danielson contends that the Framework for Teaching “is a valid instrument for defining effective teaching” (Danielson, 2014). She asserts that the Measure of Effective Teaching (MET) project, funded by Bill and Melinda Gates, demonstrates the predictive validity “that is, when teachers demonstrate high levels of proficiency on the Framework for Teaching, their students show greater learning gains than do the students of teachers who perform less well” (Danielson, 2014) The purpose of implementing this new program in my school is to build leadership skills in administrators, as well as improve teacher quality and thereby
The most effective teachers are so advantageous in part because they have committed to being knowledgeable lifelong learners. By
Facilitating a foundation in academic or philosophical pedagogy can help form a path for the educator, a path to better understanding teaching, education, learning and learners. Often, most of the programs designed for learners and the curriculum is often derived from theories. Understanding theories can help guide a teacher through their education journey. Sometimes, teachers may struggle with classroom organisation or implementing the curriculum in a considerate, all-encompassing and engaging way, especially if you are a CRT or Graduate Teacher - and often these concepts can help inspire and encourage teachers. To be an empowered teacher means your classroom and students will be empowered learners, and that is the best type of learning. There are many theories that have contributed to education as a body and has many of these theories help educational departments plan curriculums to benefit not only teachers but also all students. What makes for a great teacher is considering the characteristics of the local community as well involving students’ families’ in the school body. Influences that help shape a teacher’s identity can include…
Strategies that are in place are teachers and administration walk-through with feedback for growth. The school also provides support for teachers whose performance was
The Early Years Learning Framework have recognised cultural competence in the areas of principles and practices the frame work has identified ‘Respect for diversity’ (Commonwealth of Australia, 2009, page 13) as a key principal and ‘Cultural Competence’ (Commonwealth of Australia, 2009, page 16) as a key practice.
Despite the many challenges I face daily, remembering that I significantly influence the lives of each my students will help me in becoming a better teacher leader. Reason and Reason (2011) states that a mission will not come to fruition without ownership and ownership cannot be stimulated without consistently reminding everyone why they come to work each day. It is my mission every day to transform lives in my classroom and school environment. I have chosen a career in education because I believe that it is one of the most important functions performed in our culture. I believe that teachers individually and collectively have the ability to not only change the world but to improve it.
My philosophy of education is correlated to my vision of education and my role as an instructional leader. Excellent administrators possess personal characteristics of exemplary leadership talent in analysis of data, organizational constructs, leadership decisiveness, oral and written communication, technological confidence, personal motivation and educational integrity within school systems. Educational leadership is a vital position in which I persistently evaluate every decision I make on behalf of students; what is the educational value? Will all students benefit? Is it fiscally responsible? How do we sustain success? In order for students to be competitive locally, nationally and internationally, I am committed to providing effective,
Children’s cultural background is one of the most important aspects to developing a child’s sense of identity, and a child having a strong sense of identity is one of the key outcomes to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). By understanding the diversity of all the children within a service, educators often have to adapt their practices to benefit everyone. It is an important part of respecting children’s culture, to consult and maintain contact with the family to ensure you understand any differences their culture may have when it comes to caring for and teaching their child. By incorporating various techniques, foods and activities, educators can attempt to ensure that they are including a child’s culture within the service. When people
Teachers never have enough time to accomplish all of the things that they are responsible for during a day. However, it is important for them to have personal performance goals formulated around managing, engaging, and growing students. Establishing goals and working on them systematically throughout the school year with guidance from administration allows for professional growth throughout the school building. One of my many take-aways from the book Leverage Leadership was that great teachers use data driven instruction, receive a lot of feedback, and consistently focus on short and long-term performance goals (Bambrick-Santoyo, 2012).
The Framework for Teaching by Charlotte Danielson has been developed through research as a guideline for current and future teacher’s professional responsibilities in and out of the classroom. Districts throughout the country are using this framework to assess and guide their teachers to build successful methods of planning and preparations, setting up the classroom environment, instruction and professional responsibilities. Each of these domains builds off of each other to form a successful learning environment. Domain 3 focuses more specifically on instruction using communication, discussions, engagement, assessments and flexibility.
Effective teachers are aware of different learning theories that influence classroom practice on a daily basis. According to Pritchard (2014), teachers must have an understanding
Over the past five years Robert Marzano has made a huge impact on how I see and implement instructional skills. The amount of research he has acquired makes all of his findings and teachings relevant and reliable. I have become an educator who thrives on researching best-practices to incorporate in my classroom. Additionally, my lessons are based on Marzano’s Framework for Quality Teaching and Learning. I have become so familiar with the elements that I have provided mini-training sessions to teachers at my school site. I share the same mindset as Marzano in believing that “Teachers who set pedagogical growth goals and work to achieve them, either alone or with a coach or administrator, improve their expertise and instructional skill”
The program is methodologically sound, innovative, grade and skill level appropriate and presents clear value for the school or
The Framework for Teaching measures teacher effectiveness in four teaching domains, in combination with seven common themes. The four domains are identified in the PGES Framework for Teaching (2014) as planning and preparation, classroom environment, professional responsibilities, and instruction. Throughout the document, seven common themes are embedded within the four domains. These themes include equity, cultural competence, student assumption of responsibility, effective technology integration, high expectations, developmental appropriateness, and accommodation of individual needs (Framework,
In theory the more education and preparation a teacher has, the higher the quality and delivery of such content. The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act does its best to recruit the most qualified teachers but falls short of covering other practices that “accommodate student diversity, develop the habits of reflective practitioners and gain a full understanding of the teacher’s changing roles” (Thompson & Smith, 2005, p.74). Without
When I think about teachers that I have had in the past, several different ones come to my mind. Each of these educators stands out in my mind for a variety of diverse reasons. Whether it is their sense of humor, their tactfulness, their love of the subject matter, their fanatical and sporadic behavior, or their yearning to be childish themselves, I can still remember at least one quality of every teacher I have ever encountered. Every one of these teachers conveyed subject material to their students just as they were educated and employed to do. However, I trust that every professional in the world has an abundance of opportunity for improvement; teachers could discover and improve themselves merely by having
