She appeared in all white. Her conversation was just right. Flirted just a little, her smile was so polite. With each word she painted an perfect picture. I couldn't believe my eyes. Until the puzzle pieces began to cramble. Unable to repair her but trying only lost mine. Decived was a understatement all fueled with her consent lies in the end what happened to my angel when repersentive first arrived.
With eyes closed I stand alone, in the dark I smell the sweet scent of fresh-cut grass and feel the soft dirt under my feet. I feel the sunshine on my skin, though I cannot see it. I stand in this blissful moment until I hear a call. Desperation and panic fill the air as I blindly run towards the unknown voice. “HELP ME!” it shouts. I stumble over a log; I can feel the blood trickle down my leg. “HELP ME” another voice shouts. Gradually more and more voices call out for help tugging at my heart. I try to bury myself in my hands and collapse into the soft earth. I jump back in surprise as a cold hand gently traces my face. Tears spill out of my eyes allowing them to open; I look up and see a woman. She wears all black and has a veil over her
Many people have various valuable items that they cherish, some only have a few but everyone has that one thing that hey hold close to their heart over everything. My one item happens to be a necklace that my papa got me for Christmas right after he was diagnosed with liver cancer. This necklace means so much to me because of the character behind it, the many feelings it gives me and the heartfelt memories behind this one simple gift.
While you grow up through school, you hear over and over that college is a must if you want to land a good job as an adult. That seems reasonable, I have to get a higher education to get a job with more money and potential. Then comes junior year and you go to look at schools and you see the price of tuition. Everything changes, college isn’t just a dream anymore it's a burden.
The economy does not have free community college. They have made it about increasing the level of debt. Many people have introduced free community college. This would affect a lot of people on our economy. This would also decrease personal freedoms for a lot of the public, reduce quality, and send the wrong message to students.
My research on free community college has brought me to your article in the Los Angeles Times “Why Obama's plan for tuition-free community colleges is a good idea” in which you describe how free community college would benefit this nation and exemplify national principals. Your opinion is similar to that of the President, and the democratic presidential candidates. What differentiated you from the others with your stance is your genuine belief in you argument. You were not trying to sell us the plan like the President was, but you were stating what your truly thought was the best for America. The article was written in a very timely manner as America is searching for ways to revitalize our economy and educational system. As you may know, I
When I first got out of the Marine Corps my friends and family told me to go to college. I had no idea what to study. So, like others, I started a Criminal Justice program. A few months later the September Eleventh attacks accrued and I found myself back on active duty. I did not return to school for twelve years.
Maya Angelou once said “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style”. I believe that some people are complacent with mediocrity and therefore do not try to excel to their highest potential. As for me, furthering my future by attending college will help rise above the horizon of being average. I want to put my willing, intellectual, open mindedness, and so much more to good use.
From the very first day of freshmen year in high school, determining what college you will attend is an idea constantly engraved into students’ heads. Teachers apply a constant gentle pressure to motivate students to get good grades, become involved in extracurricular activities, and find an area of interest to assist in selecting a college major down the road. Students endure the four years of high school, some working part-time jobs, to afford weekend entertainment, miscellaneous expenses—such as Whataburger after a Friday night football game, or gasoline for their car. However, the requirement to decide between a career and education is only beginning to become a reality for many. Some students decided to take time off after their high school
My past, present, and future. This is the journey of my life. Where I’ve been, where I’m at, and where I’m going. My journey began on July 28, 2000, at St. Margret’s South Hospital in Dyer, Indiana. Lance Collins who is a paramedic, and Christine Collins who is a registered nurse, became the proud parents of the 6lb. 9oz. 21 inch long baby boy, who they named Liam Hunter Collins. On November 30, 2002, I became a big brother when my sister Taylor Collins was born. I have been a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana and I’ve had some pretty amazing adventures and accomplishments so far. I became a proud pet owner when my bichon frise Max, came to live with us on April 5th, 2006. On June 30, 2006 my dad took me to my very first Taekwondo lesson. I quickly fell in love with martial arts, I worked really hard, dedicated myself, and I received the rank of 1st degree black belt when I was only eight years old. I have been playing
As a kid growing up in the tough streets of South Philadelphia, I learned that there are many individuals who are at a disadvantage. Many citizens in those impoverished areas require resources that they are uninformed about. During my childhood, my mother struggled with drug abuse and poverty. We had many nights where we did not know if we were going to eat or have clean clothes for the next day. As I became older, I realized that education could be my way out of poverty. I buckled down and tried to take advantage of the free education provided to us by the government. The more I learned, the more I realized that my goal in life was to help those in need. West Chester is an excellent university for me because they match my passion for human rights and diversity. As an African-American man, I believe that everyone is entitled to the same rights and opportunities. While growing up impoverished, I found ways to help people to the best of my ability. During my high school years, I would take money given to me by grandparents to buy food for the local elderly in the neighborhood. I would
I’ve always enjoyed being in sports basically anything that had to do with me being active I would join. But as we all know being in a sport you had to have good grades at least a C or better, I wanted to do track so bad so I had to increase my grades. It was hard managing the both, I could remember all the anger and frustration inside me that I can’t hold in any longer and I start getting frustrated with everything around me even frustrated with myself. Somehow I managed to balance both and I achieved what I wanted to do.
As much as I want to give up and lose hope. There’s always a turnaround. There were a lot of opportunities for me to improve and make my community better! It all started when I joined “Asian American Club” on my junior year. The admin told us that they were participating on a community service on saturday, I wanted to join in and hope that this service can help me improve myself and the community. I thought it would be a waste of my time, but it wasn’t a waste at all,I heard helping the community was very good for me at my state of grades, and helped the community a much better place!
My Interest in law dates back to 2008, as I watched my eldest and only brother be handcuffed and dragged off to prison for a drug possession charge at the age of 22, leaving behind a pregnant girlfriend expecting a baby boy. I was 10 years old when I witnessed the discrimination minorities faced in the criminal justice system. I watched my mother spend every penny of extra money she had on lawyers, one that would eventually swindle us out of money only to not complete the job. The next lawyer was able to negotiate a sentence of 6 years with eligibility for parole in two years. There my brother stood, a confused, regretful, distraught young man who made a mistake, who needed education, who succumbed to the generational oppression of minorities, painted someone useless to society—a thug and a criminal. I knew from that day forward that the system had no sense of remorse, or intention to rehabilitate young African American and minority men like myself. I was once told “in order to change the system, integrate the system.” I have faith that the practice of law will lend me the opportunity to do just that.
“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand,” Vince Lombardi. Since I could fully understand the concept of working and maintaining a job, I started anticipating the day that I could fill out applications and take a step towards becoming an independent person. My infatuation with working started once my older sister got a job. I seen her being able to buy things herself, and I was amazed by how free she seemed. As soon as I turned 16, I started filling out applications. I would check my emails and calls constantly hoping that I would receive a call back from a store. Finally, a store called back and a week later I became a proud member of the Party City team. Throughout my first few weeks at Party City I fully understood how it felt to be out of your comfort zone and how crucial it is to expand yourself as an individual.
Deeds, character, and action are all very observable and can be assessed by anyone. But in life, it matters not what others think off you but it matters more how you view yourself because if you establish a good mental image of yourself, you can project that image outwards. For a long time, I hadn’t realized this but once I reached high school this became very clear to me so I envisioned what the ideal me looked like and made that my new reality. Scholarship is a great place to start in terms of self-actualizing because it helps you learn many new ways of thinking. Most people also think of scholarship in terms of academics and schooling but it can be any higher learning. I acted on behalf of scholarship through two major ways: giving maximum
