The Schengen Area is comprised of 26 countries that have agreed to allow free movement of their citizens within this area as a single country. Schengen agreement was signed and implemented in alignment with the scenario of the unification of Europe as a single sovereign federation of states, similar to the United States of America . The idea was if the EU becomes a country with a common currency and open borders between the countries, this continent could re-gain its position in the modern world as a giant economic power by implementing a bigger trade, better communication, more science research, and so on. While some industrialized countries like Germany and France were hoping for cheap workforce through the Schengen agreement, pros and cons of immigrants and cheap workforce and their effects on their native citizens’ life were always in debate of European radical right-parties and the main obstacle in approaching this agreement. It is obvious that the writer is trying to create a worrisome issue looming over the Schengen countries by connecting the recent Paris attacks to the Schengen zone and suggesting the suspending of open borders within the countries in this area. While it is not clear either the Schengen agreement or the refugees or both issues are being targeted in author’s article, this paper explains the irrelevancy and nonsensically of this connection and suggests to view and solve these issues in a different way. It is certainly easy to flight from Oslo to
Immigration is one of the contentious issues that continue to elicit mixed reactions from different parties. In most western economies, debates on immigration policies have been on the rise in the recent decades. Whereas the international human rights have confirmed that freedom of movement is one of the basic human rights and hence no one can be deprived, most governments have put restrictions on immigration. Furthermore, the enactment of open immigration policies in various countries continues to raise mixed reactions with proponents and critics of the policies contributing to the debate. Immigration policies usually vary from country to country and within states with both, either opting for open or closed immigration policies. The impacts of illegal immigration and open border policies have been central to the above debate. This paper explores the issue of open border policies and illegal immigration and its inherent dangers.
Imagine helping people your think need help, giving them advice and information about the road ahead. All of that gets erased when they come back thinking they own your and take everything valuable and your land and put their own houses where yours are. No more than 200 years ago this happened in America and continues to happen today. The treatment of Native Americans has a very deep history, from relocations to hate crimes, which is still prominent today.
In the seventeenth century, European people begin to settle in the North America. They started to invest in the natural resources in the eastern America using the best resource they found in the land, captured Native Indians. Many poor European people migrated to North America for opportunity to earn money and rise of their social status. They came to the America as indentured or contracted servants because the passage aboard was too expensive for them. By the time many Native Indians and indentured servants die from the hard labor and low morality rate, masters of the plantation purchased more slaves from Africa to profit themselves. The “Virginia Servant and Slave Laws” reveal the dominant efforts of masters to profit from their servants and slaves by passing laws to treat slaves as their properties and to control servants and slaves by suppressing the rebellion using brutal force. Masters and rich planters sought to earn more profit from mercantilism, or trade, economic system by violating the civil rights of Native Indian, African, and poor European people and this thought and practice still exist today as a form of racism and segregation in America.
1. Trace the history of relocation and Indian reservations. In what ways did reservations destroy Native American cultures, and in what ways did reservations foster tribal identities? Be sure to account for patterns of change and consistency over time.
First of all, I didn’t know the hard times that the Native American had and still having in the reservations because governments are very good in keeping things secret if they want I believe that there are many ways to kill people or even nations, but the worst kind of killing is killing them by keeping them alive. “ that’s how we were supposed to kill the Indian to save the child” Mr. P said. You may wonder what does that mean, life is not about breathing, you can say I have a life when you really have a family and an education and an opportunities for your children to be successful. Also, when you have traditions, names to be known by, freedom, and I would complete saying freedom for the whole night if I needed to show how freedom is important.
In the final draft I will expand on each of the issues, by looking into more specific examples of both what different European countries are doing policy wise, as well as what the sentiment is among the refugees in the different areas of Europe. To fully be able to understand the conditions the refugees are facing I will be using other scholars ethnography work; One of those works being Katerina Rozakou’s piece regarding the management of refugees in Greece. As a result of that knowledge I will be able to come to an accurate conclusion as to what course of action should be taken in Europe as a whole, to deal with this ongoing
In the attempts to “manage the immigrant crisis” several strategic mistakes have been made, which have shaken the functioning of migration policy in the European community. Particular controversy was stirred up by a plan for the relocation of 120,000 refugees suggested in September 2015. Some months later (April/May 2016), the European Commission came up with the idea of fines for those countries which would not receive the relocated refugees. The fine for one unaccepted foreigner was supposed to be €250,000. The attempt to impose a quota of immigrants on member countries together with high fines contributed to further divisions inside the EU.
The United States government has always been quick to dismiss minorities. Many movements are happening today to gain the rights they never had, such as Black Lives Matter, feminism, LGBTQIA+ rights, and more. Yet, one of the most oppressed groups has silence in the media - Native Americans. Their struggles are rarely addressed and remain relatively unknown. Their cultures are continuously appropriated by fashion companies and slandered by the film industry. Since the beginning of the United States’ interaction with Native American people, they have been treated with complete disrespect; even now their basic rights are compromised as they are continually treated dishonorably.
“If we must die, we die defending our rights.”(Sitting Bull) Furthermore, Native Americans suffered diseases and the loss of their land when the pilgrims arrived. “The Indian, having been stripped of his power, could only stand by and watch while the white man took his land and used it for his personal gain.” Native American rights have a positive effect because they expand civil rights, allow for repremation for past activities, and allow for self-governing.
In this book, the writer tries to achieve the titanic venture of deconstructing the myth that encompasses the starting points of America and subsist into the present as a philosophy. This philosophy has verifiably upheld the dispossession of Native Americans from their genealogical grounds, and propagated to the present day the uncalled for relationship between the relatives of the individuals who came and of the individuals who were
Thousands and thousands of migrants have begun to flood into the European countries. With immigration numbers higher than ever, these countries have begun to search for solutions. Some countries have considered closing their borders , many are beginning to show violence to keep people out. As always, there is a much better solution other than using violence. The Europe Migration Policy needs to be adjusted to current needs and these countries need to work together to create better opportunities for the immigrants and refugees seeking safety.
The migration crisis has reached a level where Europe must take a stand and must present a viable plan, expressing the future goals the European government believes will help solves this crisis. The International Organization for Migration said, between January and November 2015 more than 750,000 migrants are predicted to arrive in Europe from across the Mediterranean. As a union, Europe is showing the world that they are not a cohesive organization prepared to face the future with respects to the mass migration. The policy concerning migration at the European Union level states that each nation has the right to their own migration policies, while adhering to the European migration institutions, which are not fully established. So far, many of the migrants coming to Europe are settling in Italy and Greece; many hope to be able to reach Germany as their final destination.
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is imperative to understand how societies interact and the issues they are facing. I have been interested in languages, cultures, and international affairs for many years which is why I have decided to major in Global Studies. To broaden my global perspective, I am currently participating on St. Lawrence University's Global Francophone Cultures program where I am studying abroad in Quebec, Canada; Rouen, France, and Dakar, Senegal. In addition to learning the French language, the main area of focus for this year's program is immigration. One of the courses I am taking is called, “The Age of Migration: Labor Mobility in the EU.” In this course we have read various articles on immigration, researched countries immigration policies, and are studying the economics of immigration. We
The idea most central to all Americans is our right to freedom. These freedoms are things that are listed in Declaration of Independence and our nation's Constitution. Numerous President have used the idea of freedom to gather support for war such as the Civil War, World War II, and the Cold War. In America freedom has been sought after and fought for by different groups, even though it is the basis for what America stands for numerous groups have been deprived. These groups of African American, women, Native Americans, and other minorities have fought to include themselves in the freedom that was guaranteed to them. Native Americans have suffered for a long period of time by the people who settled their land, starting in colonial times. The American government has wronged them in numerous ways and the Native Americans have had to fight for the freedoms and equalities they have.
(EU-Blue Card official) But can such methods be practical and desirable for all the EU members? Clearly, that is not the case when cheap labors are still in high demands among all the EU continents. The EU has turned a blind eye on these individuals with “invisible national identity”, i.e. illegal immigrants. An increscent wound on immigration lawmaking is thence produced as a product of EU’s double standards. Simultaneously, the cooperation between the EU members states become especially critical when they are strengthening the immigrations matters with a shared accountability; after all, immigration could easily boost and hurt the EU’s wealth and their relationships toward the neighboring countries as a double-edged sword.
