Future Career As A Registered Nurse

The career I am curious about is in the medical field, generally speaking, nursing. I have chosen to become a registered nurse because of its background, and how its characteristics require the use of creativity, problem-solving, social skills, and critical thinking. Registered nurses use various skills to diagnose and apply certain care methods to specific patients. I know that nurses aid patients with various illnesses, diseases, disabilities, and injuries. I love helping people and the feeling I receive when helping people. It would also be very motivating to learn and discover things about the human body and how to fix any problems involving it.

The nursing field gives a person the opportunity to work with and care for elderly, sick, and injured patients. I want to join the registered nurse team because they take on multiple medical settings. Registered nurses are known as RNs. They are responsible for multiple things. Being a RN has a lot of responsibility. The topics I will be covering are: job description, specialties, trends, salary, benefits, and required trainings. These are essential things that a person needs to know before going into nursing school.

“Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon.” There was a girl who had always wanted to become one of importance, education, and also a contributor in her community. She feels that this occupation will assist her in living comfortably, providing for her family, and will be something she will enjoy doing. The career of a Registered Nurse is a challenging and important career, because of the importance one holds within a community. The research will describe the career of a Registered Nurse, what is required to become a successful, and the impact this career has on society.

The success as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) requires hard work, compassion and empathy. It is important to realize the journey is challenging, but is fulfilling. The registered nurse profession was established in the 1800s. For over two hundred years a registered nurse has helped those in need. The responsibilities of nurses is to educate their patients on many types of diseases as well as provide guidance to patients and their loved ones. It is important for nurses to express compassion, emotional stability, and empathy for patients.

To become a registered nurse a person can either earn an associate of science in Nursing, which is 2 years of schooling, or an individual can earn a bachelor of science in nursing, which is 4 years of schooling (Discover Nursing). Registered nurses work alongside physicians providing patient care in a variety of ways. A few examples of what nurses are responsible for include: administering medications, tracking patient’s vital signs, helping to diagnose and properly treat patient aliments and educating the patient and their family on their condition and the course of treatment. Depending on what area of medicine a nurse works in will determine more generalized and specific duties and responsibilities. There are many different areas a nurse may work in. Some areas include: obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency room, and many more. Nurses can work in a variety of settings, these can include: hospitals, urgent cares, doctors office, nursing homes and home health.

Quintilian once said “It is the nurse that the child first hears, and her words that he will first attempt to imitate.” I always loved helping people and I would turn on the television and look for shows related to nursing. “One Born Every Minute” was one of the few shows I watched on television that interest me and made me eager to want help with the birth of babies. This show captured the hardships and difficulty of giving birth and the experience of the procedure.

My lifetime goal is to become a Registered Nurse since I was 18 years old, but, unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to go college, but to go to a technical school and get a medical assistant degree. Since then, I worked in many different doctors’ office in Florida as a Medical Assistant until 2 years ago when I met my husband and moved to Maryland. Luckily, with my husband's support, I have been having the opportunity to go back to school and continue my education.

To have a successful career in nursing one must have certain skills and abilities. A nurse must always be looking for ways to help her patients. Critical thinking is important because sometimes a nurse must make quick decisions that may benefit or harm the patient. Medical tools are always used while on the job and a nurse must know what these tools are and how to operate each one. A nurse must also know what tool is best needed for a certain patient when trying to make them better.

Registered nurses have several duties and responsibilities that can range depending on the organization that they work for. Registered Nurse’s may be employed in physicians' offices, schools, hospitals, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, clinics, and even in prison settings. They are responsible to provide direct care to patients that are done under the order and supervision of a licensed health professional. The licensed healthcare professionals include physicians, nurse practitioners or physician's assistants. The daily actions of an RN may include receiving a patient assignment, assessment of each patient, administering medications, attending to patient needs, facilitating patient, assisting the physician with bedside procedures, monitoring laboratory results, and monitoring for any changes in condition. While on the job they might also encounter heavy lifting of patients, exposure to bodily fluids, and large amounts of time on feet. The amounts of hours they work depend on where they work. For example, hospital-based nurses mostly work a total of 3 twelve-hour shifts per week while a office-based nurse usually works 5 days a week for a total of 40 hours.

As far as I remember I would always play nurse with my siblings and make them feel better. When my parents would take me to the store to pick up a toy, I always picked band-aids and pretend doctor kit. My long-term career is becoming a Registered Nurse, and my short-term career is the career I currently have as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

To be a nurse practitioner, an RN needs such as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The current minimum education required as a Nurse Practitioner is an MSN degree, which takes 3-4 years to complete, depending on your specialty. Many graduated schools desire students to have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) for entrance into nurse practitioner program, while other schools allow a bachelor's degree in another field if you are already a registered nurse. As a current RN-BSN student in UTA, I’ve researched and decided after graduating with my BSN; I plan to work on the pediatric unit which the specialty that I want to practice in the future.

After graduating from Blackhawk Technical College my nursing career will begin at St. Mary's Janesville Hospital as a surgical/pediatric nurse. I am excited to begin this journey within an organization I have been a part of since before the doors opened in January of 2012. St. Mary's Janesville is partnered with several colleges offering ADN to BSN degrees. My future goals include enrolling and completing an ADN to BSN degree program by December of 2020. In addition to earning my BSN by 2020, my goals also include obtaining my ACLS and PALS certificates within four months of hire.

Your choices will affect you throughout your life, whether it is a big or small decision. For example, it could be something simple like eating fast food for the third time this week or it could be important like going to an interview for a new job position. When you are young, you change your mind every chance you get. This might be why deciding what job you want for the rest of your life is difficult. Currently, 1. I want to be a RN, which is a registered nurse. Registered nurses do a lot to help their community and the people in it. With this job, I would be able to give back to the community by helping people. This makes me feel like I would be a better person.

Since I can remember I have always had a compassion and natural desire to care for my fellow man. Now having this opportunity, I remain committed to this task. During my nursing career as a Registered Nurse, I allow myself time to grow clinically and to expose myself to a variety of health care emergency situations which continues to be very valuable to me in strengthening my career. It is very fortunate that I have the opportunity to be in a position to where I am today.
