Major League Baseball fantasy season is heading down the home stretch. Now is the time to keep an eye on minor league players who will earn an opportunity to display their talents when rosters expand on September 1st. There were a handful of young stars touted as being worthy of a waiver wire watch list back in May.
A couple of those under produced and will be part their team’s expanded roster, but they come with some baggage. Here are the original prospects who failed during their first opportunity, plus some other potential fantasy game changers who should get a one month shot to put their talents on display.
Not Yet Ready for Prime Time Players?
In a May article by the Daily News Sports, a list of players with low ownership was

However, is he really worthy of a fantasy roster spot during league battles for playoff spots?
Some other players mentioned as potential waiver wire wonders have produced serviceable fantasy stats, but none have proven worthy of must-own status. Luis Perdomo has pitched well for the Padres, but rumor has San Diego being very cautious with his innings count over the last month, even though reports insist there will not be an innings limit placed on him. He may be worth a roster spot, but keep in mind another young right-hander has surfaced out in San Diego as fantasy worthy.
Jed Lowrie is one of the players who has lasted the entire season, but Lowrie sits on the fence between prospect and young veteran. He is performing adequately as second baseman out in Oakland, but only provides hit or miss numbers on a nightly basis. Indicative that he may have out-powered his potential already, Lowrie had a single home run and but 7 RBIs for the whole month of July. Kennys Vargas still leaves fans and fantasy owners, as well as the Minnesota Twins management, scratching their heads. Vargas has one at bat since a call up on August 9th, so his playing time going forward is rather suspect at best.
Worthy of Waiver Wire Significance?
In the May report, was one player who now appears to be the next most coveted waiver wire pick up in standard fantasy leagues. Every astute baseball fan knew well how much power and potential Philadelphia’s Rhys
Bryce Harper is the player that you love to have on your own team, but opponents can't stand him! He might have a swagger that annoys opponents, but he is one heck of a baseball player and this year he is breaking out to the superstar everyone expected! He is just 22 years of age and he is one of the most feared hitters in baseball. He has battled injuries to start his career because of what some have termed too much hustle, but this year he has put all together. He is hitting .331 27 home runs and 64 runs batted in the no question NL MVP at this point in the season. He might rub fans and opponents the wrong way but he is fun to watch play baseball I just wish as a Braves fan he was in a different division.
As baseball season right around the corner some teams are in need of offence and defense. People say the best way person to full these jobs is Troy Tulowitzki. Experts call him the best shortstop of our time. But is he really? What is he worth? Should you trade for him?
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--On Wednesday, West Virginia baseball standouts Kyle Gray, Jimmy Galusky and BK Myers were drafted on the final day of the MLB Draft. The three joined pitcher Michael Grove, who was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round on Monday night.
But as important as Rizzo has been, nobody has been more important than the pitching staff of the Chicago Cubs. Their 3.42 earned run average puts them in the top five in Major League Baseball, where they also reside in the opposing batting average category. The staff has been led by Jake Arrieta, whose 13 wins and 2.38 ERA are elite numbers in both categories across the league.
In particular, Ender Inciarte, Nick Markakis, and Brandon Phillips raised their respective batting averages over .150 points in the last five games. Add the steady bat of Feddie Freeman (.400 batting average and 1.347 OPS) and the return of Kemp (.500 and 1.654) makes the lineup a bit intimidating for other pitchers.
Jorge Posada has seen and been through it all, he has seen the best and worst of the team and as well put a career that might not pop out to your face as maybe the others of the Core Four. But if you look deeper, you would realize that Jorge Posada is more than ready to become the first of the Core Four and as well the 18th catcher to be enshrined in Cooperstown, New
Giancarlo Stanton got traded to the Yankees over the summer bringing in a lot of hype about the 2 players who hit the most home runs last year on the same team (Stanton and Judge). So far he has a .234 batting avg. and 7 home runs. The avg. isn’t great right now, but that was due to his timing being off at the beginning of the year.
In a season full of “pinstriped” ups and downs, Beltran has become the one constant in a less than stellar lineup. After Monday nights heroics, Beltran now stands at third on the club in batting average (.288), first in home runs (14), and first in RBI’s with 36; as well as leading the Bombers in categories such as games played, total bases, hits, doubles, slugging percentage and OPS. Not too shabby for a guy that looked like his best days were behind him,
Strong performances in recent games from the big money players, Adrian Beltre (and his thumb), Prince Fielder (and his veggies), Shin-Soo Choo and his diary as well as Elvis Andrus and his robo-leg kick have stirred the pot that is Postseason aspirations for the Rangers. Recently the team acquired a few new faces, Will Venable from San Diego and welcomes back Mike Napoli from Boston.
Carson Fulmer - The White Sox have three strong prospects for their future. They are going to play out the string in 2017 looking at which of these pitchers steps forward. Fulmer is one of the more intriguing of this trio of pitching prospects.
B. Addison Russell’s draft and minor leagues was such a success! Transition: All his hard work during his high school career, to finally being drafted, and playing so well in the Minor Leagues helped so much for going out in the Major Leagues! III. Addison was signed with the Cubs in 2015 A. Baseball-reference.com shows that Addison had a better season in 2016, stats wise, than what he had for 2015.
Likewise, one player was selected to represent each team in the home-run derby; these players were selected based on their tremendous power and ability to hit consistently. Jonathan Ramone [Sedalia Bombers; 7 home-runs this season] and Kasey Cooper [Branson Nationals; 4 home-runs this season]; the MINK League home-run leaders will be debuting their power-hitting abilities at Phil Welch stadium Thursday. The other six participants are: Trent Hill of the St. Joe Mustangs, Chase Hamilton of the Clarinda A’s, Josh Vanderpool of the Joplin Outlaws, Derek Rodigo of the Chillicothe Mudcats, Andrew Kendrick of the Ozark Generals and Taylor Walker of the Nevada Griffons.
When someone thinks of baseball, they probably think of Mike Trout or Bryce Harper. They think of those two players for one reason: they are the best players in the game. Both were drafted in the first round and shot up through the minor leagues to the major leagues very quickly. Their talent and work ethic allow them to perform at an above average level, even in the major leagues. Although they both have enormous
Starlin Castro, who the Yankees acquired from the Chicago Cubs in December, has been an upgrade from Stephen Drew at second base, batting .284 with three home runs and 12 RBIs this season.
Rubio sports a career stat line consisting of 10.2 points, 8.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Will these stats get him in the NBA hall of fame? No, but a spot on my fantasy team this year will have to do. In your typical head-to-head category fantasy basketball league, every single stat count and Rubio can pad each and every one of them for you. His stat line alone is enough to predict a breakout year for Rubio, however, there’s more to strengthen my argument.
