Gang violence is also very common in school. According to the Texas State School Safety Center “Data from the 2009-2010 school year indicated that 16% of all schools reported some gang activity on their campus.” Although there isn’t a clear line between friend groups and gangs, gangs have been defined as A group of 3 or more youth or young adults ages 12-24 with a sworn allegiance to each other; A shared identity, sometimes including a name and symbols; Self-perception and acknowledgement by others that a group is recognized as a gang; A degree of permanence and a degree of organization; and, For example, the Texas Penal Code defines a criminal street gang as “three or more persons having a common identifying sign or symbol or an identifiable
SMASH!! Goes a kids head into a locker, why did this happen? It could have been caused by anything from a fight with a family member, a fight over social media, or even a result of gang violence. Over the years times have changed in many ways. The span of the years has brought a rise in violence in schools. This has benefited us and has also been negative to society. Sadly, one thing that is contributed to the rise in violence is school. Kids going to school together cause many conflicts among their peers and sometimes even teachers. Also the things kids do on their alone time can cause a lot of the violence as well. Over the years there has been a significant rise in school violence.
Any ongoing organization, association, or group of three or more persons . . . having as one of its primary activities the commission of one or more of the criminal acts enumerated in paragraphs (1) to (25), inclusive, or (31) to (33), inclusive, of subdivision (e), having a common name or common identifying sign or symbol, and whose members individually or collectively engage in or have engaged in a pattern of criminal gang activity. (Ludeke, 2007).
I remember a lot happening during middle and high school. Countless student deaths due to suicide, OD/drug use, drunk driving, homicide, illness, accidents... Plenty of bomb threats throughout as well as students bringing firearms on campus. These twin sisters that lived in my neighborhood, went to the same middle school, and rode the same bus as me were killed in a drive-by. There was plenty of gang-related violence. I also remember one, if not two female teachers at that school having had numerous sexual encounters with male students. The PE teacher had a porn collection on his on his office PC and would wank in there. Multiple teachers had been physically and verbally abusing the special needs students over a period of time until it was
I grew up where it was a lot of bad things happening in my city. I seen plenty of my friends lose their live at a young age. It’s not a pretty site tending a friend funeral that’s younger then you. Seeing everyone in the building cry is so wrong. Gangs where I’m from goes by what neighborhood you grew in. You not actually in it until you start hanging with the wrong people or repping your set like throwing up gang signs. I witness a couple of good people getting shot because they was at the wrong place and the wrong time. Gang violence is nothing to be proud of at all kids just need to have that come to Jesus speech in the room.
As the principle of an inner-city high school, I have encountered some concern regarding the recent pattern of gang violence reported over the past few months. Accordingly, I have been presented with the opportunity to address the gang activity (that generally embody themselves with distinct colors) by mandating school uniforms for all students, anticipating to mitigate disorder. However, some of our students find that the expense of a school uniform is futile for them to commit in (due to budget prohibitions). With this, I worry that these individuals would drop-out. Consequently, I have arranged to resolve this issue by holding charity events and fundraisers to ease the family’s financial burden and provide them with contentment; as well as commence assemblies that emphasise/engage students to avoid such disturbances. My first priority
This behavior fosters a climate of fear and disrespect that can seriously impair the physical and psychological health of its victims and create conditions that negatively affect learning, thereby undermining the ability of students to achieve their full potential. The goal is to make it clear to students that gang behavior in any form will not be tolerated at school in order to ensure the safety of all students during the school day.
Zoe came to school today with her hair in a low bun. She wore an off white crochet cardigan with dark gray jeans. Her sneakers were white Nike sneakers known as “uptowns”. She walked in the classroom in a rush as if she was running down the hallway so she would not be late for class. Upon entering class she greeted me, Mr. Liam and Ms. Amy and quickly walked to her seat. As she sat in her seat she opened her brown tote Coach bag and took out a purple pen, a highlighter pen, and her big turquoise binder. She began to complete her tutorial request form like given in every class to see what areas the students need help in. As she completed her TRF she was picking at her hair, her hands were all over her face, she held her forehead with the palm of her hands as if she had a headache.
Today, youth gangs exist in nearly every state. A gang is basically an organized group of criminals fill with mostly juveniles. Some different types of gangs are Latin King, Crip, Bloods and etc. One expert estimates that more than 3,875 youth gangs with a total of more than 200,000 gang members are established in the 79 largest U.S. cities. Gang activity has extended beyond the inner city of major population centers into smaller communities and
The recent violence on school grounds (including elementary, middle school and high school violence) has created a climate of fear in American public schools, and the literature presented in this review relates to that fear and to the difficulty schools face in determining what students might be capable of mass killings on campus. Television coverage of school shootings leave the impression that there is more violence on school campuses than there really is, but the threat is real, students are being killed, and the background into how and why these murders take place is a main point of this paper. Moreover, the acts of
Violence in schools has spread rapidly throughout the nation and has caused many difficulties and fear among students, families, teachers and staff, and residents of the areas afflicted by the crimes. Many believe that school violence is only very recent occurrence, but this is untrue. It is easy for people to forget that there was life before the internet and many crimes were not publicly known as they are today. The speed in which the internet and cable television spread news is astronomical compared to decades, or centuries past. That is how long violence has been occurring in public and private schools ranging from elementary schools to colleges, Amish school houses to elite universities. It would seem that many rewrite, or edit history to better suit their beliefs, or political aspirations of the present. People spend quite a bit of time trying to pin modern influences as the cause of violence in today’s youth, yet one can find documented incidents of immense violent behavior in adolescents far before the creation of Grand Theft Auto and Breaking Bad. It may be more prudent to look closer at the advancing development and availability of automatic and semi-automatic weapons, bullying, and the increase of psychotic behavior that is untreated and ignored. This essay will show that school violence is not the direct result of violent video games or the internet and that they have been occurring for centuries and that the likely true
A gang is a group of people who associate closely, often exclusively, for social reasons. The issue of youth gangs has received considerable media, political and police attention in Australia in recent years. Young people like to belong to a peer group. Those who feel left out of social groups may end up joining a gang or just associating with an antisocial group of peers. Other reasons young people join gangs can be for example; protection, identity, fellowship and intimidation. Over 40% of gang members are under the age of 18. At times, gangs engage in illegal activity and substance use. There is also a strong pressure on members to conform and go along with the group. Gang members may affiliate with people of similar cultural, ethnic or
When a parent trusts their children to the school systems, they do so without the intentions of worrying about their child’s safety. Parents should not have to spend their day praying that their child will return home safely. Most of a child’s adolescence is spent in the care of teachers and other administrative staff members within the school system. These individuals are responsible for providing children with the learning tools to learn developmental and communication skills, which will lead them down a successful path by achieving their goals (McFalls 2017).
Violence is defined as using physical force and abuse to harm or even infact kill someone. Violence is the common interaction most people would see on a daily basis which is very disappointing to most. Most commonly the violence is among pre teenagers and teenagers who have not yet matured. We should increment safety measures to help students who want to receive an education but not to harshly. The causes are bullying happening around schools, students attitudes toward school and peer pressure to fight against other students.
Gang violence is a severe problem in the United States. It effects people in all sorts of ways. The death rate due to gangs is bizarrely high. They kill each other for no reason at all. Even if you’re not involved with gangs physically you might be involved financially. Taxpayers might not even know it but money is being deducted from their checks without their consent, possibly because a gang member shot someone without insurance and the bill has to be paid some type of way. Gang members can also effect tax payers by destroying property. Vandalism, like graffiti is a typical thing that gang members do to show what gang they’re in. No one ever thought about how that graffiti gets cleaned though. The “city” pays its workers to clean those walls and get that graffiti off. That money is really coming from the checks of the people in that city or town.
The problem we are facing today with violence in our schools is a major concern with communities all over the world. School violence wears many faces. It can be gang activity, locker thefts, bully and intimidation, gun use, or anything that products a victim. Violence is perpetrated against students, teachers, and staff and ranges from intentional vengeance to accidental killings and bystanders. Can violence in our schools be reduced? If so what do we need to do to reduce it? Is the lack of discipline in our schools to blame for the rise in violence? Are the movies, TV, and video games to blame for the violence in our schools? These are some of the questions that our peers, parents, and
