Homosexual marriage is one of the old but controversial issues around the world. Compared to the past, it seems to become a more open debate among people. At the same time, people seem to be more swayable than before, but towards the gay marriage, different voices have still been hovering in the air. Gay people and their supporters have been striving for their rights to get married legally, while others who against gay marriage have never stopped deterring it.

In the past few years all 50 states have legalized same sex marriage. The problem is same sex marriage is still not widely accepted in this American society. When people are getting arrested because they refuse to do their job and give out gay marriage licences that means there is a problem with the way that same sex couples are being treated. Gay marriage is a major hot button issue in America right now. To allow marriage or to not allow marriage has evoked a large argument that has caused many riots and problems. Gay marriage is the right for two people of the same gender to marry. But what most people do not think about is the benefits of marriage to this community of people. Society should work harder on accepting same sex marriage because it is not just about being happy (but that is a benefit), but it is a matter of decisions over life or death, money, and the life of children.

Gay marriage is an issue that has been widely debated in the recent years. It has been considered outlawed for centuries, but is rapidly gaining acceptance among the people. While many believe to have no problem to allowing marriage of homosexual couples, there is still a fraction that is strongly opposed to it. Some nations in the world have shut their doors to the idea of same sex relationships, let aside allowing them the right to marry. Some countries have legalized gay marriage federally, however certain states have not accepted that law. Historically when you looked up the definition of marriage in the dictionary, it defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman. According to cbn.com, Merriam-Webster changed its definition of marriage in 2003. The revised version now defines marriage as the state of being married as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. Currently, in 2017 more sources have also made revisions to redefine marriage. They are now defining marriage as being between two people instead of being between just a man and a woman. Most Americans have the right to marry, why can't same-sex couples? Gay marriage is legal in America, but many states and priests ban or don’t allow couples to marry. I find this unfair because heterosexual couples can marry basically anywhere they want. Many churches support gay marriage, but some don't approve of it. Also many towns ban homosexual marriage, but allow heterosexual marriage. Why deny someone the right to marry just because they prefer the same-sex? I don't understand why people are against same-sex marriage because marriage is for everyone, many religious leaders support same-sex marriage or they are homosexual, and gay couples are wonderful parents.

Gay marriage has been a controversial topic throughout all of time. Until recently, straight marriage was the only kind of marriage acceptable to most people. Gay marriage is defined as the legal marriage between two people of the same sex. In the United States of America, Same-sex marriage is legal, but it has not always been that way. Since the 70’s, the path to marriage equality for homosexuals has not been easy. It took blood, sweat, tears, and countless hours of protest for gay marriage to gain equality in the US, but in the end, it was all worth it.

There is so much controversy in the world today over gay marriage being legalized. We all are entitled to our own opinions, but who are we to try and justify someone else’s happiness with their significant other? From my perspective, I believe that love has no limits. Your race, sex, or whatever has no value! It should ultimately be up to you whom you marry whether it’s a man or a woman, the choice should be yours.
