Transgender refers to the broad spectrum of individuals who transiently or persistently identify with gender different from their natal gender. While transsexual denotes an individual who seeks or hs undergone a social transition from male to female or female to male which in many but not all cases also involves a somatic transition by cross-sex hormone treatment and genital surgery (sex reassignment surgery)
Gender Dysphoria was the new term for Gender Identity Disorder, the reason was to prevent stigma and to guarantee clinical care for people who perceive and believe they are different sex than their designated gender.

One of the main function as a social worker is advocacy, moreover one very important ethical principle of social workers is to respect the inherent dignity and worth of the person. Transgender often face bullying, harassment, assaults but typically segregation and discrimination.
Segregation, many places and especially school environments are sex segregated. A typical example is the restroom; this segregation can cause difficulties for transgenders if they are not allowed access to those facilities or activities that match their gender identity. Not only can this segregation affect their emotional well-being but it can also affect their physical well-being.
Dress Codes; the enforcement of dress codes is a typical source of discrimination. Dress codes should reflect safety not appearance. Dress codes in schools for non-safety reasons is discriminatory, boys and girls should be allow to wear clothing consistent with their gender identity, because emphasizing dress codes that depict gender identity would negatively affect the student
