Gender Inequality
No matter how much one argues, there is an undeniable truth is that this is a man’s world. Women are always one step behind men because society has not accepted the fact that women are just as capable. Women are generally disadvantaged or excluded regarding decision-making and access to economic and social resources. It is critical that we acknowledge that gender inequality exists and address the power imbalances, thus allowing access to opportunities, rights and obligations in all spheres of life to be no longer dependent on sex.
Gender inequality, by definition, is the biased treatment between two sexes. I strongly believe that unequal treatment of women is something that should have stayed in the primitive times.

When women do decide to enter the market place, they often work in lower-paying jobs. They also have to leave work periodically because of child care responsibilities. Even though the roles of mother and wife is also vital to the well-being of society, it is often devalued and deny women access to the value public resources. The increase in gender stratification and lack of women’s participation automatically leads them to becoming the subordinate and men being the dominant in the modern society.
Male dominance is something that has been culturally installed in every aspect of the modern life. “A dominant group, inevitably, has the greatest influence in determining a culture’s overall outlook – its philosophy, morality, social theory, and even its science. The dominant group, thus, legitimizes the unequal relationship and incorporates it into society’s guiding concept.” (Miller 111) Being the dominant group automatically gives the men label of the superior and women being inferior. Being labeled inferior, women are described as defective in mind or body and incapable of perform preferred activities. The dominant group often disrupt the development of subordinates and block the freedom of action and expression. According to the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) on gender-based violence of women age from 15 to 49, which asks women whether and when a husband is justified in beating his wife. Most respondents said that a husband justified of beating his
In society these days there is a noticeable difference in the treatment of men and women, the most common examples would be found in the social, business and culturally convention realms. These ways of life have double standards in many different ways. There are many ways to convey the ways of discrimination towards women by men.
There are hundreds and thousands of athletes all around the world but the main problem in the athlete world is gender inequality, women are not shown equal as men. They are discriminated in many ways such as pay, employment opportunities, value of women 's sport, media coverage etc. Despite the federal law passed called Title IX that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination." there is still gender inequality women are considered less than men. No matter what happens people will always have inequality against men and women because of the environment they live in and how they were raised. Women are
Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals wholly or partly due to their gender. It arises from differences in gender roles. Gender inequality isn’t a exercise which has just recently developed instead it is a practice which has been part of our community since civilizations have begun. When one thinks of gender issues they directly connect it with females however this issue consists of both men and women which can be heavily seen in the early eras.
Over years there have been many cases and treatment that indicated to gender inequality. Gender inequality means unequal treatment and understanding based on their gender, or biological differences. The biological differences between man and women is that men born differently that women, and men have different sexual organs than women. Gender inequality includes treated women roughly, and have a picture that females are minimum that males.
Gender inequality plays a critical role when it comes to social progress. As a woman,
Gender Inequality: Gender inequality means the difference between men and women and treats them on the basis of their gender.
Today most children in the United States attend classes where gender equality exists. Students have classes in which both boys and girls are treated equally and are friends with one another and that is all that they have ever known. However, this is not always the case in every country. As of 2015, 53% of the children who are not attending school throughout the world are female ("11 Facts About..."). Gender inequality is an important issue that needs to be focused on and fixed throughout the world, especially within the education systems. Although many people are aware of this issue, most people do not see it as a priority in the world right now. The gender gap in education systems throughout the world needs to be closed because gender equality is a necessity in the world and this is where it all starts.
The problem is that the entire legal, economic and productive system is still dominated by men, and they see women as threats, more than competition, to their traditional business activities (Silva,,2016). A Male dominated society believes that women are only born to reproduce and take care of the household as well as making sure, the man is taken care of in all the possible
Cecilia Ridgway, in “Framed by Gender: How Gender Inequality Persists in the Modern World,” holds that gender exists as an organizing social force. We value certain stereotypes of how people of a certain gender should act and incorporate these expectations into our social relations. Men, Ridgeway explains, are typically viewed as having more “competence, assertiveness, confidence, independence, forcefulness, and dominance” (Ridgeway, 2011) in social relations. Women, on the other hand, are viewed as valuing “emotional expressiveness, nurturance, interpersonal sensitivity, kindness, and responsiveness” (Ridgeway, 2011). According to Ridgeway, these gender stereotypes are basic knowledge in the contemporary United States and, therefore, are present in most social interactions.
The concept of gender inequality dates back to when the first civilizations took shape. As the first civilizations emerged, the values of male dominance became visible. Since then gender inequality eventually slipped its way into one of the world’s most controversial topics.
“Gender equality is a human fight, not a female fight.” How is our world unequal when it comes to gender? Out of the subjects when it comes to inequality, which ones are we unequal in? Men and women have come a long way in the rights of equality. Around the world, there’s abounding ways that men and women are still unequal, even though countless think that this may be the end of the road for equality. Some of these ways include equal pay, equal opportunities, as well as equality in politics. Some examples of these inequalities include The Clinton Foundation, which fights for women’s rights, but, in it there’s large pay gaps, another example is that in Britain there’s women who are receiving jobs politically but don’t have actual power. In several
Gender is the socially- constructed role and explanation of relationships between men and women. (Sport & Dev) In my opinion, I define Gender inequality as the unfair treatment amid both sexes. According to Sage Knowledge, "Gender inequality is allowing individuals of different opportunities due to perceived differences based solely on issues of gender."
Social status and structures have definitely shaped the construction and experience of gender inequality. Men and women are constantly analyzed, compared, and grouped together in society. The result of this yields discrepancies in how sexes are viewed by society. Throughout my examination and explanation of gender inequality, I concluded both men and women are victims to gender inequality.
Our society has always been believed to be patriarchal society, with female inequality in representative roles, the absence of a female president and the misogynistic opinion of some men to prove it. In fact, Socrates stated that “Once made equal to a man, woman becomes his superior” which is exactly what Mycenaean men feared most. Ancient Greece was a very patriarchal society, and we owe much of that to the Mycenaean men who structured their myths to the benefit of men. However, it wasn’t always this way. In Crete there was a society of women called the Minoans who ruled as a matriarchal society that was not nomadic and centered their life on fertility and Gaea, the mother earth. The Minoan society believed that men weren’t connected to the earth because they weren’t able to produce babies; nevertheless, they believed that men had some fertility so they would sacrifice men to female goddesses to ensure fertility. When the Mycenaean men saw this they knew that they had to avoid the Minoan rule anyway possible. Therefore, the Mycenaean came and pillaged through Crete overthrowing the Minoan society to guarantee that the Minoan way of life would not resurface. Mycenaean men took advantage of what they had seen the Minoan culture do and intricately structured myths displaying rules that the proper Greek should follow in hope that people would follow and not revert to the Minoan ways. Edith Hamilton’s Mythology introduces those myths with clarity, in-depth analysis of each myth
Throughout history, women around the world have been viewed as less important people than men. Over the centuries women have fought for equality. The evidence of the continued disadvantages of women can be seen through the fight for women’s education. As well as women’s representation and portrayal in the media. Sexual assault statistics are another appalling example of women’s disadvantages. Lastly, the gender wage gap between men and women prove there is still very prominent inequality between the sexes. Overall, women in today’s society and around the world are less privileged than men.
