Known as the most charismatic president George W. Bush served his time as the president of the U.S. from 2001-2009. George grew up as the eldest of 6 kids (two sisters, 3 brothers) unfortunately one of his sisters died of leukemia when she was a child. George always was enthusiastic, & he was quiet the athlete! He was in football, baseball, rugby, basketball & was the head cheerleader! George started presidency fairly young, he was voted class president in 7th grade. Once finished high school George chose to take after his father, he decided to go to Harvard & get his master of business administration. He also graduated from Yale to top it off! Later in his years when he was 31 years of age, he met his wife Laura Welch, within only 3 …show more content…
But due to the late response the action failed to prevent the spreading ramification that took place. Sir George Bush ended up signing the largest tax relief in a generation! The tax cut’s provided 1.7 trillion dollars in relief in the time of 2008. In 2001 he proposed & signed the “Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act”. Which had promising benefits to it (Reduced tax rates for every American who pays income taxes, including creating a new 10 percent tax bracket, doubled the child tax credit to $1,000 by 2010, reduced the marriage penalty beginning in 2005, put the death tax on the road to extinction, increased education tax benefits, & increased limits on IRA and 401(k) contributions and changed limits on defined benefit pension plans) (n.d.) Because of the tax relief 2007,say a family of four who had earnings of $40,000 had saved an approximate average of $2,053. George was trying to bring things back to order but it wasn’t his fault that it couldn’t get fixed A.S.A.P. he had too many mountains in the way of the valley. George had good plans and good intentions but lost some control. His term ended and no one believed the issue was becoming fixed, so Barak Obama came into “fix” the situation and ended up taking over office. America thought that they had elected a “savior” but due to the constant issues, Obama care, etc. they have now started to see the good side of Bush. Since George Bush left office and Obama
Reagan inherited a misery index (the sum of the inflation and unemployment rates) of “19.99%, and when he left office it had dropped to 9.72%”. Under Reaganomics, 16 million new jobs were created. Not only did he cut tax rates, but the Tax Reform Act of 1986 simplified the income-tax code by eliminating many tax shelters, reducing the number of deductions and tax brackets. Reagan’s dream of tax returns fitting on a postcard has been nullified as Congress has regressed and continued to make the tax code more complex, necessitating a new push for reform.
Throughout the years we have had some great United States presidents and some terrible ones. When we elect a president, we want someone who will improve our country and stabilize our economy. However, many presidents do not accomplish this during their term and end up causing the opposite effect to happen. One president who is on the list of presidents that made the country worse and our economy decline is George W. Bush. He was the United States president from 2001 to 2009. George W. Bush was one of the worst United States presidents for many reasons, but the top three on my long list are first and foremost his decision to start the war on Iraq, second his support of the Military Commissions Act, and last but not least his handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
When Ronald Reagan became the president of the United States in 1980, he took on the worst economic mess since the Great Depression. The United States was involved with the Cold War with the Soviet Union, mortgage rates were two and a half times that of the amount in 1960 (15.4%), seven million Americans were unemployed, the national debt was $934 billion dollars, and tax rates skyrocketed as high as seventy percent (Reagan, “The State of the Nation’s Economy” 290). Reagan’s predecessor Jimmy Carter planned to fix this dreadful economy of the 1970s with a tax increase of fifty billion dollars, whereas Reagan knew that the best way to fix the economy was with tax decreases. Under the Reaganomics program, “tax rates were to be cut by thirty percent. Tax revenues were to be reduced by forty-four billion dollars in 1982 and eventually result in a $500 billion reduction over the next five years. Never before in the history of the nation had a president proposed reducing taxes by so much for such a long period of time” (Wilson 25). Reagan’s tax cuts involved a greater decrease for the wealthy, but everyone else also received massive tax relief. Reagan’s idea was that when the
President Obama has introduced a variety of fiscal policy changes during his presidency; some of his ideas, however, did little to strengthen the economy as they were intended to do. For example, in 2001, as President Bush had just entered office, he ushered a reduction of income tax rates in addition to other tax cuts for the middle class, through Congress. While these policies were initially quite slow in boosting the economy, the economic benefits eventually began to surface around 2003 and the economy did begin to exhibit stronger growth. However, President Bush’s tax policy was set with an “expiration date”, set by Congress through a budget process called “reconciliation”
To start, “In the summer of 1981, Congress passes the Economic Recovery Tax Act, which was the largest tax reduction in U.S. History. Rates were cut from 14 percent to 11 percent for the lower income individuals and from 70 percent to 50percent for the wealthiest, who also benefited from reduced levies on corporations, capital gains, gifts, and inheritances.” (American Promise 837) Because
| President Bush Pioneered a new model of partnership that tied American foreign aid to reform and good governance. He also launched a global HIV/AIDS initiative that has spared millions of lives and expanded the NATO alliance; forged a historic new partnership with India.
George W. Bush lowered the taxes during his term, signing the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act. The idea was to lower taxes for Americans but only the richest people benefited from the taxes being lowered. The average middle-class family received one-eighth of the tax breaks a richer family would and therefore the middle class fell behind. The tax cuts also failed to make jobs for people, influences the current day deficit problem. George W. Bush tried to lower taxes during his term however only the rich gained and the negative affects are still seen today.
George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st president of the United States. He was born on June 12, 1924 in Milton, Massachusetts to parents Prescott and Dorothy Bush. George’s father was elected to the senate of Connecticut when the family moved there. George Bush was raised in a wealthy family but was taught to be modest and an active citizen in his community. When George was 13, he ran away from home to go to school at the Elite Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. By the time he turned 18, he decided that he wanted to go into the air force. He became a commissioned pilot from 1942-1945 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Soon after he was done in the air force he went to college at Yale University where he
George .W. Bush and Barrack Obama two of America’s great presidents, both filled with their individual ambitions and charisma. These prominent presidents have ruled the most powerful country in the world using their different strategies and policies. George Bush, a republican was the 43rd president of America had two terms in power (cite). On the other hand Barrack Obama the first black president of America and a democrat was his successor. He is known for his charisma. Notwithstanding, their various good leadership skills and the criticisms, Obama has been a better and more successful president United States than George Bush. Despite the fact that his presidency being criticized for being a failure he has done a good job so far. Obama is showing promise in his policies trying fix the problems that were created by past American presidents in terms of handling the domestic and foreign policies.
Bush admired his history professor Thomas T. Lyons at Yale. This admiration led George to major in history. George had very little intellectual curiosity and was not interested in politics. However, some of his classmates believe that being a stickball commissioner and the head cheerleader were pre- political experiences. While he was a well known figure, there were many times he faced conflicts at school for being a male cheerleader, and some agree that this prepared him for the world of politics. Bush himself claims that his student activities qualified him for the White House. After he attended Andover, he persistently demonstrated the same leadership: “not a powerful intellect or dazzling policy but rather an exceptional ability to make friends, work a crowd, cheer people up and take them all in his direction” (The New York Times Company). When he was the governor of Texas, he worked with both Democrats and Republicans, and built successful coalitions which led him to become a popular leader without becoming engaged in policy details (The New York Times Company).
His family raised him with respect and showed him the right way how to get things done. As to be the President wife she stated “It is unusual, however, for a former president and first lady to make a collective deal for their memoirs, and some publishing industry insiders said that early on the process, it appeared that the books were going to be auctioned separately.” And I think that’s real because pf the fact she has to stand by her husband to make sure he’s doing everything right and knowing that he can achieve any goals on his own. He made of choices in his life and that was he had a lot of charity that he gave and that was Obama Care it was Medicare for people who can’t pay for they medicine on their own. He took care of the United States and it was so sad that he had to leave but at the end he made of different changes in the law that he wish he could have kept. His family was so proud of him that he didn’t know what to think or say about that. I really don’t know too much about him but what I do know that he change the world and that I wish he could come back and change the world
Some could say that the Bush era tax cuts could have been a clever lie to the American people on job growth when they truly look at the numbers. Compared to every other two term president Bush had the worst rating when it came to job creation and his economic policy took him in the opposite direction he claimed we were heading. At the beginning of his presidency, the national debt was at 5.7 trillion dollars and when he left office the national debt was at 10.6 trillion dollars. His tax cuts were marketed to spur economic growth and lead to increased job production. Bush and Chaney even went as far to say “that tax cuts pay for themselves” That was far from the case, it just created policies that allowed the dramatic increase of wealth in the top percent and reduced job growth for the rest of the nation.
On September 11, 2001, America was attacked by terrorists. Before this traumatic event, one could not even imagine someone doing such a thing. When this event occurred everyone had been unaware and continuing their daily activities only to be stopped by this life changing news. The president at the time was George W. Bush. Doing day to day activities like the rest of us, he was reading to a second grade class that bright Tuesday morning. Upon hearing about the news, he was utterly shocked along with the rest of America. At approximately 8:40 p.m., which is around 12 hours after the event, he gave a speech to address this horrendous event. President Bush had successfully created a sense of unity and security throughout the country with his speech by using ethos, pathos, logos, tone and imagery.
This may sound like a tax plan that will relieve the financial burden on lower-income taxpayers, directly benefiting the poor, but in actuality, cutting taxes for all in a regressive manner gives substantially more money to the wealthiest taxpayers and a very small amount to lower income taxpayers. According to his plan, a typical American family of four will be able to keep at least $1, 600 more of
First of all, the marginal tax cut was one of the most significant policy in the governing of President Reagan. Starting from 1981, government reduced individual tax (the top tax rate was reduced from 70% to 50 %) and Windfall profit tax. As the Tax reform act of 1986 published, the tax rate of wealthiest Americans was decline to 28 % and corporation tax was decreased to 34%.” In addition, as marginal tax rate for wealthy people decreasing, personal exemption amount increased from $1,080 to $2,000. That means,
