George Washington: The Father of Our Country
George Washington is one of the most household names in the entire United States of America, and for good reason, seeing as he is the founder and father of the country. Although most people know him only as the first president of the United States, he was also the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army. Moreover, he set the standard for American life, and “As one scholar said, he “invented tradition as he went along’”(Knott), putting together the pieces that would one day make up the American culture. A man of epic moral standing, Washington used his power and position to do good for all, denying himself the crown in the name of democracy, one of the most prominent factors that makes the United States the United States. As well as being the founder of the U.S., Washington also gave the new country uniqueness and beauty to stand out as a light and a place of freedom in a dismal world of war and persecution. Many significant Americans have done much to continue the chain reaction of influence and inspiration that has made up nearly every aspect of American life, but none has been as important as President George Washington.
Born in February of 1732, George Washington began his spectacular life in Westmoreland County, Virginia.
