When they decided to elect him as president he was currently the leader of the Continental Army. The congress saw that he had the potential of being the leader of the country.He reluctantly accepted Congress’s decision. This president was George Washington. His father who was Augustine Washington owned the land where they lived on. He grew tobacco, built mills, and owned slaves for a living. His mother Mary Ball worked as a house mom. She was a widow with two children. George Washington studied at Appleby School in Northeast England. He was married right after he resigned in office to Martha Dandridge. They got married on January 6, 1759. They both did not have any children together or with anyone else. His father was Augustine Washington, but had two other boys and one girl with his former wife Jane Butler who died in 1730. Augustine remarried Mary Ball in 1731 and on February 22, 1732 they had George Washington.
