President Washington was seated at his desk in the oval office turned and looking out the window thinking about how quickly events were moving and how much control did he really have over them. He had his concerns about the military and if they really needed civilian leadership at this time or was he in the way? Or was he being paranoid? During the colonial period, the New World was under rule by the British. When the British went to war with the French, the French were defeated and Great Britain gained full access over North America. After the war ended, the British were in debt and were in great need of money. They decided to obtain that money from the colonists by passing laws and acts forcing the colonists to pay taxes.
