When George Washington became the first president of the United States in 1789 the young republic faced many pressing issues. The state needed to build a sound economy, create a stable polotical system and preserve national independence. .

Have you ever wondered how our country got started or who our first president was? Our first president was George Washington and he was an important part of the start of our country. By examining the life of George Washington and his role in the war and the effects he had in the war it is clear that he had a big and important role in the beginning of our country and how it is now.

George Washington born on February 22nd, 1732 was a man of honor and patriotism, He was a disciplined but fair general and a humble president who set the standards for his successors this is why he should be remembered. As a man he was a simple farmer who when duty called he fought for his former country britain. As a general he led soldiers with discipline and honor then returned to his home. As a president he was humble and refused to be anything like king.

If it had not been for George Washington, Great Britain might’ve won the revolutionary war, and the United States of America as we know it would not exist. George Washington is an influential person because of his unbelievable life story, his leadership in the development of the country, his 8 years of presidency, and his leadership during the revolutionary war.

His education is that he went to Appleby school in England. His place of birth was at Westmoreland county, Virginia in 1732 and his place of death was at Mount Vernon, Virginia. The first thing Washington warned Americans about was love or hatred for other nations. He advocated for peace and equality toward all foreign countries. Washington stated, “It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest…” (Sources 119). Washington warned Americans that favoritism toward one foreign nation over another would not only cause differences with some foreign nations, but also could lead to issues in America. He believed foreign issues would allow an opportunity for groups of people (factions) to mislead the general public in America, thus dividing the country. The role that George Washington played in the French and Indian War was that Virginia dispatched him to deter the French from building forts (Schultz). The French, who were established in the area, defeated the inexperienced Washington a colonel at the time. This loss encouraged the English merchants to lobby for a war against the French, therefore ridding the new country of competition for trade. His courage in battle and the amount of respect he earned made him the perfect candidate for the first president of the United States and is the reason why I would like to ask him a few questions. I would ask him in an interview, why did you decide to form the cabinet, why do you think you were chosen to lead the Continental Army into battle, what advice did you give for the United States in the future, Why did you give a farewell address and Why did you serve only two terms as president?

I also learned that he didn’t know how to run a government so he had to appoint a group of people to help him run it which in his cabinet he had state department, war department, and a treasury department. The end of the Revolutionary War brought on much confusion about who would lead the country? Were there going to be laws? A constitution? No one knew what would happen, all the colonist knew they were free from the British. This is where the great George Washington comes into play. Along with leading troops in battle during the American Revolution, he was the first president of the U.S. This role brought on a tremendous amount of responsibilities. He strove to unify the nation, “By establishing a federal government. He did not interfere with the policy-making powers that he felt the Constitution gave Congress. George Washington 's strong, courageous, intelligent leadership was important because it brought the victory of the American patriots over the British in the Revolutionary War.
