George Washington’s military career began in 1753 at the age of twenty one when governor Robert Dinwiddie of Virginia appointed Washington to deliver a message to the french ordering them to leave the ohio river valley for trespassing. Because of the dispute between the british and the french, both governments claimed the ohio river valley as their own territory. They built forts in this region in order to capture the other’s forts. Washington was sent to rid the territory of the french because this region was also claimed by the colony of Virginia. This conflict ultimately led to the escalation of a full-scale war between Great Britain and France. Washington returned to Virginia and delivered the French reply to Dinwiddie. The french declined
