No homework ever again? That would be nice. But, perhaps it’s possible. There are many problems with homework that, if addressed, could persuade school boards to get rid of homework for good. Homework has a negative effect on middle school and high school students because it limits their free time, keeps them up at night, and discourages out of school activities.
The first reason that homework is not helpful is that it limits students’ free time. Students look forward to school ending and being able to relax and enjoy themselves. As the seven hours counts down, they have the afternoon and evening to wait for. However, if they have homework that night, all of their plans are ruined. For all of the work that students do each day, they deserve time to relax. No matter what work students get, it’s really bad. It forces them to work longer, and possibly through the night, which leads me to my next point.

There are a great deal of teachers that give mountains of homework each night, and with more than one teacher in middle school and high school, a lot of kids will spend hours upon hours each night doing homework. The students who get home later than most have it even worse. Often, that means that students are awake late into the night. This makes them extremely tired the following day, making it harder for them to work and function efficiently in school. I remember one night in fifth grade when I was awake until 2:00 doing homework. If everyone’s falling asleep in class and can’t learn, what’s the point of giving them work that will make them this
There should be no homework. What if you have plans and can’t get it done? Here are some reasons why I think there should be no homework. Most kids hate homework. Many adults get confused with modern day homework. Kids rush to finish homework and go meet with their friends.
I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool that teachers use to keep us busy. Being a student who has received homework for various years, I have found that homework causes me a lot of stress (Ethos). Homework causes kids to get very stressed out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it does not improve test scores. Harris Cooper, a worker at Duke University (Ethos), found out that, doing more than 60 to 90 minute of homework in middle school and more than 2 hours in high school is associated with much lower scores (Logos). This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are forced to do. Firstly, students have to wake up from seven until two o'clock everyday,
Students should not have homework because teachers have seven hours in the day to teach in the day that should be plenty of time to teach us in the day for whatever we need to learn and homework gets in the way of people’s sports. Students also have to stay up late at night to finish their homework and that might cause kids to have sleeping problems and then they wont work as hard in class because they are
In summary, homework could have some negative and positive effects on a student's learning. But a school can offer too much homework for a student that they can't finish on time. So that's why homework can be bad while no homework can introduce improvement and positives of being
Sometimes our parents have no time to help us because they have their jobs. Then if we can’t get any help it’s going to be either a late grade or an F because we can’t get a good grade without a complete assignment. Our parents could also have a goodnight sleep without having to worry about us failing their classes because of homework. Teachers will also gain out of no homework because they don’t have to deal with grading messy handwriting and awful grammar. They don’t have to stay up however long it takes just to grade all the papers their students. It’s especially hard for middle school teachers and up because there are so many kids and so many different classes. Teachers can go anywhere they want if their lesson plan is finished for the next day if there is no homework. They won’t have to deal with angry kids, teens and yelling at them if they’re failing school because of homework. Homework is keeping everyone up.
In the first place, banning homework Can help kids have more time with family and do more activities. As a matter of fact, an eighth grader at a New York middle school averaged about three hours of homework per night. In those three hours kids could be outside playing, spending time with family, resting from a tough day at school, doing chores, and working. But instead they are inside having lots of stress on them and can't sleep because of these hours of homework that teachers are giving to them. which means the next day they will be tired and won't learn as easily/well.
Castle View High School, although some teachers, students, and parents say that homework is something that every student should do and should be a necessity, there should actually be less homework for students so their brains don’t get hot wired. The first reason is that students tend to improve if they spend at least 2-3 hours of doing homework. Students don’t want to spend 2-3 hours of homework after a long day of school, that can be exhausting to them and their brains. Doing homework very little, improves elementary and middle schoolers, homework mostly only helps improve high school students. Another reason is, teachers like students to continue working on the lessons that were taught, to be continued at home. We’ve decided ahead of time
The first reason students should not be given homework is that with extra curricular activities like sports or clubs, there is no time for homework. One may have to wake up at 5:30, go to school until 2:55, then go to practice until 7:30. Then they must eat, do homework, and shower. By the time everything is done, it is 10:00. The student would jump into bed and fall asleep then repeat the process over and over. With this schedule the student would be exhausted and not able to focus. By getting rid of homework students would get much more
Across the world, children and teens do homework after school. Many people expect homework to be a healthy educational learning tool, but is it really? No, I believe homework is something we need to get rid of. Instead of making it easier to learn, it is creating stress and medical issues with students, finally, it doesn’t affect academic success. Why exactly?
As I remember myself as a school student, I did not like doing homework as well, and l also wanted to avoid this part. Students struggle with doing different tasks and assignments which they do not like and do not have desire to do. They often do not understand why doing homework is so important part of their educational process. The students express their complaint about the homework or by not doing it at all, or by protesting against it. Of course it would be easy to cancel the homework part and make the student’s life much comfortable and free from unwanted weight, but I totally disagree with canceling homework from educational process for three main
Everyday kids are sent home with lots of work, all night they stay up doing their homework to the point where kids are getting too tired to focus on school! We should get rid of homework in schools! There are three big reasons why. Children are overtired, parents are exasperated and usually end up finishing kids homework for them, and finally, the kids are having a hard time coping with time management skills. We need to get rid of this outdated homework policy!
I believe that the school district should not get rid of homework. It is important that we get all the help we can get. School can be hard sometimes, so homework helps us understand the work more.
The next reason too much homework is harmful to students is that studies show more homework to cause lower test scores. One to two hours of homework a week does not cause a major change in test scores (Wolchover). There is no evidence of homework having any academic benefit in elementary or middle school, and the academic benefit found in high school is very weak (Kohn). Homework is not shown to help students academically until grades ten through twelve (Wolchover). There is also no proof that homework increases good study habits in students (Kohn).
This is because I believe that students already get enough practice in an average school day and giving them too much homework will lead them to despise learning and school. I think teachers should not give homework for three main reasons: so kids can have more family time, participate in other out-of-school activities without worry, and so they don’t have to stay up late finishing homework, which greatly strains their academic performance. Homework affects your family life in two main ways. First, you don’t have time for family activities after school if you are overwhelmed with homework. And second, if you stay up late doing homework, you will be too tired to do any family activities. Teachers should not consider other activities when assigning homework. This is because not all students have the same
The general arguments given by teachers and some parents are that homework increases the overall grade averages, sharpens study habits, and helps students become more prepared for college work. Along with that, it helps students learn responsibility for life in the work field of the real work. Although these arguments are valid, there are arguments against homework as well. Homework causes students to be stressed out when there is too much to be done by a certain deadline and takes away the free time of students. Some of the work that students are assigned isn't relevant to what they are studying. Worst of all, it causes that struggling student to lose interest in the study of that subject ("Students and Homework"). While it does have negative outcomes, homework also has it's perks.
