The historian David Blight says that Lincoln’s message in the Gettysburg Address was to help the people recover from the deficit from the Battle of Gettysburg and the casualties that were caused by it. Lincoln simply wants to rebuild the country.

The Gettysburg Address is one of the most famous speeches in American history. The History Place indicates that on November 19, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln went to a battle field positioned in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where three dreadful days of battle occurred called the Battle of Gettysburg. While he was attending the battle field to dedicate it as a national cemetery, he read his speech to the public. After the main orator, Edward Everett of Massachusetts, delivered his speech that lasted about two hours, it was Lincoln’s turn. Everyone was shocked that it only lasted a little over two minutes. The speech talked about the men who fought in the Civil War to help create the nation people have today: that it is only fair to honor them

     The Battle of Gettysburg was the most decisive battle for the North, and it lasted for a total of three days. It began on July 1 and ended on July 3, 1863. The Confederacy was going on the offensive and was beginning to venture into Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington D.C. They encountered Union troops as they advanced towards Harrisburg where they planned to cut off Union supply lines and to steal provisions that they needed. The Battle of Gettysburg became the bloodiest multi-day battle ever fought in United States history. At the end of the Battle of Gettysburg, the Union claimed victory, and they would use this psychological advantage throughout the rest of the Civil War.

The tone and stage are set with the background of the great battle field of Gettysburg’s. Our nation is involved in a great civil war between its brothers with two different views and divisions. President Lincoln has the daunting task as the President of the United States to bring healing to this torn country; to remind the country that it was only 87 years earlier that this young country started on its great experiment. The thesis statement answers the question and reminds the audience that all men are created equal and that the basis on which our country was founded on was liberty and equality.

When people think about President Lincoln, what comes to mind? Probably the Civil War, slavery, his assassination, and the Gettysburg Address, right? Well the Gettysburg Address is a historical artifact that has a huge impact on how American culture and society are today. The Gettysburg Address contributed to the Civil Rights Movement and helped Lincoln put new amendments in effect. Over the years since the speech was given, The United States has changed dramatically.

Our journey for unity is far from over; this was referenced in two of the most powerful speeches ever made in two different centuries. Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address from 1863, a speech that changed history and Martin Luther King Jr.’s I have a dream from 1963, a speech that made history. Both speeches represented a call for staying the course and not to give up. The call was fit for that time particular time in history. They are five scores years apart, yet close enough that we felt the need to reignite the message of faith, hope and optimism, the hope that black and white people would live together in peace.

Four and a half months after the Union defeated the Confederacy at the Battle of Gettysburg, Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. He gave the Union soldiers a new perspective on the war and something to fight for. Before the address, the Civil War was based solely on states’ rights. Lincoln’s speech has the essence of America and the ideals that were put into the Declaration of Independence by the founders. The sixteenth president of the United States was capable of using his speech to turn a war on states rights to a war on slavery and upholding the principles that America was founded upon. Most of them are still debating the entire cause of the Civil War. North and South have leaders that run the slave and non slave states.The slave state is run by Jefferson Davis the non slave state is run by Abraham Lincoln.The two states are in battle with each other.One of the battles that took place here was in Gettysburg.The battle at Gettysburg took place on July 1,1863 but day past and the Confederate forces lost and it was the turning point for the Union forces.After the battle on November 19.President Lincoln used the dedication ceremony for the Gettysburg National Cemetery to honor the fallen Union soldiers and redefine the purpose of the war in his historic Gettysburg Address.The Confederate said their not going to attack the north anymore.

DiLorenzo does a great job showing the theme and overall topics he writes about throughout the book. In chapter two, the main focus is discussing Lincoln's position, along with other Northerners positions on equality for racism. It is stated that Lincoln had no intent on having any form of equality for the blacks and the whites. He claims on his own thoughts that blacks are inferior. Even though he did not agree with equality, he did believe that slavery was wrong. When it came to the topic of slavery ending, he seemed as if he wanted it to end, but in reality he did not care either way. He knew that if the South were to win a decisive battle in the North then European powers might shift in favor of the South and they might begin helping them.
