The two texts (If by: Rudyard Kipling, Girl by: Jamaica Kincaid) have a similar topic which is a pattern (guardian) is giving advice to their child. On the intro on sentence 1 on “Girl” if states, “a list of rules that she wants her to live by.” This shows that her mom is giving advice to her daughter because it says that the mom is teaching her daughter things that she should live by and that means that she is giving her daughter advice. On stanza number 4 it states, “And--which is more--you’ll be a Man, my son!”. This proves that A parent is talking to his son and that he will finally be a man because he father taught him how to be a man. …show more content…

The theme of the poeme “Girls” is different from the poem “if”s theme because in “If” the dad if nice to the son and helps him rather than “Girl” when the mom is telling the daughter what to do and the daughter is responding in a smartalke way. On stanza number 4 it states, “And--which is more--you’ll be a Man, my son!” This shows that the dad wants the son to become a man and that he helped him become a man. On sentence number 6 in the intro it states, “The mother in “Girls” expects a great deal of her daughter, and she does not hesitate to let the girl know it.” This Proves that the mom just is mean to the daughter and she is very loud about
