Alex Kover, Mariah Danner, Chad Zamzow ESS 305 Park Paper Glacier National Park Introduction Glacier National Park, located in Northwestern Montana, is an astounding spectacle of history and beauty. Not simply just the history of the Native Americans and European-descended settlers that call the area their home, but also the geologic history of the Earth. The region is known for the beautiful scenery that can be seen from anywhere in the park. Large, steep mountains rise out of deep, lake-filled valleys and thick conifer forests open up into grassy, flower filled meadows. The park is also home to a wide variety of plants and animals. Grizzly bears and mountain goats wander through the forests and rocky cliffs while beargrass flowers light up meadows and evergreens rise high above the valleys below. It is for this beauty and scenery that the region was designated a national park for people to enjoy. Location …show more content…
The park encloses two subranges of the iconic North American mountains: the Livingston and Lewis Ranges. Also contained within the park is the Continental Divide. Water that falls on the western side of the Divide flows to the Pacific Ocean and water that falls on the eastern side flows to the Gulf of Mexico. The park got its name from the many glaciers that can be found in the upper reaches of the mountains and can be reached by a hike into the wilderness. The park also is connected to the Canadian Waterton Lakes National Park just north of the border. Because of this connection, Glacier National Park became the world’s first international peace park (UNESCO World Heritage Centre,
A glacier is a large mass of ice that flows very slowly. A glacier forms by the compression and/or crystallization of snow that has stayed in one place year round. Glaciers can be constructive and/or destructive. Glaciers can be constructive by leaving sediments behind, or destructive by gauging the earth's surface. Glaciers were once present in Minnesota, thousands of years ago, and as they retreated, they left behind large amounts of glacial meltwater and various landforms, still present today.
One of nature's most powerful and influential forces is also one of nature's coldest and slowest processes. These great icy rivers are called glaciers and have formed some of the most beautiful scenery on this planet. These enormous frozen bodies of water are often thousands of feet wide and deep and many miles long. They cover millions of acres of land and drastically change the land into beautiful mountains with many amazing features. One of the areas where glaciers have been most influential is in Yosemite National Park in California. Here almost every glacial feature is shown. However, before this information about glaciers in Yosemite was clear, there was the Yosemite Controversy with
The boime I’m going to do my report on is the tundra. The tundra is located near the north and south poles of the Earth. Two examples are the top of Russia and Greenland, but there are many more. It is an cold and barren place. Places that have civilization have a couple towns every now and then but, most of it is large plains of snow.
Tundras are one of the harshest and coldest biomes here on earth. The climate of tundras are cold with heavy, constant winds and low rainfall. Tundras are treeless regions that are cold throughout most of the year. During the winter, the sun hardly shines. In the summer, the sun shines almost 24 hours a day and last around 6 to 10 weeks. Temperatures during the summer do not rise above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Tundras are located in Alaska, Northern Canada, Russia, and Northern Siberia.
It is late may which means it's the beginning of summer at Denali national park. The view from our Campground is very pretty, and the weather is excellent. We are staying at the Riley Creek Campground which allows us to use electricity and we can also get water. If you walk 50 meters down the trail you will arrive at a general store, if you are running low on food or need something besides food this is a good place to visit. There is a lot of wildlife to look at from lakes, trees, and animals. Some animals that roam here are moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolves, and Grizzly bears.Dall sheep are one of the biggest parts of Denali because, when Denali was established Dall sheep were decreasing in population and they wanted to protect them. Denali was established on February 26, 1917. Denali is located in Interior, Alaska. If you think of Interior I always think of Denali because it is my favorite place to visit.
Glacier National Park is located in southeastern British Columbia (in the Montane Cordillera ecozone) and protects 1349km² of land. With many mountains, forests, glaciers, lakes and deep valleys, the park is a perfect tourist spot for families and friends. Glacier National park is located in the Western Cordillera landform region, in which is famous for the tallest mountains. The park preserves a region of the Columbia mountains, in which was created from faulted sedimentary rocks. The Rogers Pass is also found within the park and it passes through the Selkirk mountains which gave a path for a railroad (which is why railroad tracks can be seen on the border). Beside the mountains, there is an interior rainforest of different species of trees,
You will find Arctic Alaska on the North side of Alaska, it reaches from the border of Canada to the Chukchi Sea. The Arctic ocean makes the region's northern edge, not as many people live in Arctic Alaska. During winter time Arctic Alaska is a very dark place if in barrow the sun will set on November 18th and will not rise again until January 24th. In the middle of these winter months the temperatures can fall all the way to- 50º F in higher latitudes. This can be the lightest and darkest region in all of Alaska. During the summer time their is 24 hours of sunlight a day can melt seas and topsoil, and is the main cause of icebergs breaking The land was earlier inhabited by Alaskan Natives who thrived off of hunting, whaling, and salmon fishing
The compass was used in Song Dynasty China by the military for navigational leading by 1040–1044, and was used for maritime navigation by 1111 to 1117; it was first invented since 206 BC.
Denali National Park is one of the most beautiful sights in the United States. The park is located in the state of Alaska. It has many areas in its location for its size being about 6,200,000 million acres. The main thing I am here to discuss is the issues that surround Denali Park. The park is experiencing problems with the severe climate change, excessive hunting, and possible endangerment. All these problems have been in the media lately because of the park’s history. It is still the top tourist attraction in Alaska. The environment of Denali needs to be solved immediately because it is one of the most known parks in the world. It would be a shame if the problem wasn’t fixed.
Tundra is in northern parts of the earth and is also a wide range land. The Tundra can be found far away from the equator at high latitudes or on top of mountains at high altitudes. The latitude range from 75° N to 60° N. Furthermore, the tundra is in the North at the peak of the earth close to the North Pole. The average winter temperature is -34° C in tundra, but the average summer temperature is what hinders this biome to have a sustainable life. However, the rainfall may vary in different regions of the arctic. Tundra is basically split into two, one side is called the arctic and the other is the alpine. Precipitation averages from 20 all the way to 60 cm every year in arctic tundra but surpass 100 cm in alpine tundra where there are no
Weather and erosion caused large accumulations of detritus to accumulate which is where the cold air causes water to freeze and become ice. Ice Mountain was formed by the natural collision of tectonic plates. Over time this mountain was worn down by rain and by the wind and slowly over thousand of years carved to what it is now. Ice Mountain was designated a National Natural Landmark by the National Natural Landmarks program in 2012. This means that the owner of Ice Mountain, The Nature Conservancy, agreed to attempt to preserve Ice Mountain’s natural bounty as much as possible. The wide variety of uses by man of this nature forged resource is what truly makes this part of mankind’s heritage as well as its uniqueness amongst other nearby mountains being one of only a few natural areas with such a refrigeration
The word tundra is derived from the Finnish word, ‘tunturia,’ which means barren or treeless land. Tundra is a unique environment because of its exclusively northern location, and its harsh, cold climate. It is the habitat of limited flora and fauna, all of which have adapted to these harsh, cold conditions in major ways. Tundra is a delicately balanced environment that is heavily affected by global warming and many human impacts, such as development and urbanisation.
More than 900 species known on planet Earth have gone extinct (Endangered). Some, however, have been saved from extinction. One big contributor to this cause is the National Park Service, an organization founded in 1916 to protect the remaining wild places in our world. Now the National Park Service preserves over 6000 areas throughout the world, with over 275 million visitors each year (United, “What”; National, “National”). The National Park Service plays an essential role in preserving wildlife on Earth by teaching and acting to preserve species.
Picture this- A secluded wilderness getaway with astonishing scenery only accessible by a riveting railroad adventure. Amongst this beautiful expanse, the Spencer Glacier sits as a king does on his throne. This gargantuan wall of ice truly is a remarkable site. The Glacier is among one of the many glaciers in Alaska’s Chugach mountain range, and by far one of the most spectacular. Upon arriving at the foot of the glacier, a 1.3 mile hike overlooks Spencer Lake. The trail is maintained by the National Forest Service, and a tour guide from the train is available if desired. If you prefer a more daring adventure, there is even a raft trip down the river. It is known as one of the more known whistle stops for the Alaska Railroad between Girdwood and Seward.
the first national park in the united states was yellow stone. brought in march 1st 1872 by Ulysses S.
