Global climate change has become a hot topic in recent years. Countries have recently been working together to improve air quality, water systems, and waste management. A large contribution to our climate issue, is how governments and companies release chemicals, and waste into the environment. This law would allow for the people and the government to step in, and make sure companies follow through in keeping the environment safe.
The reason this law is necessary, is that the United States is one of the top consumers for recyclable material and for not properly recycling it. The pacific garbage island increases in size daily in square footage. Companies spreading from medical, chemical, to everyday materials will dump waste in rivers and streams contaminating water used for human and animal consumption. Companies that end up with radioactive material will bury it, sometimes safely, and sometimes use the wrong containers and burying it in the wrong rocks allowing for leakage that makes the area radioactive, and the material to seep through into other areas.
Batteries, and electronics that aren’t properly recycle is wasting material that can be reused or contaminating entire garbage dumps for leakage. IPhones contain raw materials like gold, titanium, and copper. All reusable when a person either exchanges, sells, or trades their phone. As long as the phone isn’t fried, some of the weaker materials can still be used like glass, microchips, and boards. Computers that are
Electronics Recycling. Electronic recycling is one consideration the company can do better with. Recycling in general lowers greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by manufacturing items for the first time. Recycling electronics conserves natural resources making cleaner air and water. The valuable resources computers and electronic components carry are metals, plastics, and glass. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recycling a million laptops would give back enough energy for 3500 American homes’ electricity. A million cell phones would could yield 35,000 pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold, and 33 pounds of palladium. Instead of throwing out the old computers and blackberry’s, the company could simply upgrade the hardware or software and then recycle the parts necessary.
This policy by the United State according to this act mandated that pollution be prevented and most especially reduced from the source. It further states that, in an instance where pollution in unavoidably or unable to be prevented, then recycling of such waste should be done considering the safety and well being of the environment and the people. In a case where it is not possible to prevent pollution or recycled, such need to be treated in a safe manner to protect to reduce any hazardous environment (Burnett, 2000).
After numerous complaints from citizens about the overwhelming pollution in the United States, Congress decided to pass both the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act in order to protect America’s environment and its citizens. Through the tight restrictions placed on businesses in these acts, Congress hoped that the pollution put out by large industries would decrease and its affect on the lives of everyone in the United States would lessen. Under the Clean Air Act, cities, businesses, and automobiles must meet air quality standards and follow provisions created by the Environmental Protection Agency. Under the Clean Water Act, businesses must have licenses to release certain pollutants and national water quality standards must be met. The Clean Air and Water Acts are extremely effective, therefore, it was necessary the government create them. These acts have helped drastically decrease the pollution in America and have improved the health of citizens as well as the environment.
Climate change is one of the most controversial and ongoing topics in society today. Scientist and politicians alike all have opinions, but very often they are not in line with each other. 97% of climatologists agree that climate change is happening, as well as many of the large corporations in this field such as NASA, the Geological Society of America, and the American Association for the Advancement of science. Still, these debates take place on sites such as climatedebatedaily.com or the worldwide conference that was held on June 6, 2015 that took place 79 countries. Both sides claim to have solid evidence that supports their theories, but it is evident to most scientists and corporations alike that the human race is creating our own destruction
Facts: In 1977 Congress revised the Clean Air Act (CAA) to address states that failed to attain air quality standards previously established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)1. This amendment to the CAA required states that were not in compliance with the established air quality standards to create a permit program regulating new or modified major stationary sources of air pollution1. The EPA defined a major stationary source as any device in a manufacturing plant that produced pollution1. This definition was later refined to allow an existing plant to use new equipment that did not meet the established standards so long as total emissions from the plant did not increase.
Climate Change is a very controversial topic, not only in The United States, but in various places around the world. Some people say that it is a hoax, and others put it on the top of their priority list, along with abortions, terrorism and other important topics circulating around the world. Magnum in Motion did a very good and detailed job of swaying people to believe that climate change needs to be a more precedent issue. The video essay portrays climate change as a pogrom, it gives an unbiased opinion, and it presents ways to combat climate change.
Presently, while Scientists are warning us about the deleterious effects of Global Warming, “Nonscientists” also have separate views on the same issue. This indicates that Global Warming is a controversial issue that needs to be addressed. First, we need to understand the concept of “Global Warming.” Global Warming is described as the general increase in atmospheric temperatures worldwide, which results to climate changes. According to an article titled “Global Warming,” the earth’s atmosphere contains various gases that act as a blanket to trap heat from the sun and prevent it from escaping back into space. This means that these gases prevent the earth from being cold. This continued process is known as the greenhouse effect, and the gasses that are responsible for maintaining this heat are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. They continued, “Over time, the amount of greenhouse gases trapped in the earth’s atmosphere has increased significantly, causing worldwide temperatures to rise.” Human activities like industrialization and agriculture also play a significant role in increasing these gases. For example, the use of certain fertilizers, produce nitrous oxide and methane emissions come from the production of fossil fuels from landfills, and from livestock, they emphasized. All these evidence illustrates that we are significantly responsible for recent increases in temperatures. For this reason, it is obvious that it is a pressing human issue. This recent dramatic
Mike Huckabee; the former governor of Arkansas, said: “The most important thing about global warming is this. Whether humans are responsible for the bulk of climate change is going to be left to the scientists, but it’s all of our responsibility to leave this planet in better shape for the future generations than we found it.” This addresses the controversy over climate change; even though many people support and advocate for taking immediate action to reduce the large footprint humans have made on the Earth, there’s just as many or more that are unwilling to do anything because whatever happens won’t occur in the current day, but instead years later. There are many factors to take into consideration; people should feel responsible for reversing
Humans will destroy the earth if no one acts. Climate change is a serious problem that has been around for decades. The 21st century is special because of the technology and information available. Yet, people continue to ignore the overwhelming destruction happening to nature. Through many years, masses have begun to take responsibility and restore the planet. In time, the earth might be what it once was.
Climate change has become more prevalent of an issue among the public now more so than ever before in history. Global warming used to be considered a hoax and a myth. Politicians rarely addressed climate change as a serious topic, and their peers did not take the few who did seriously. The younger generation seems to be the most outspoken about climate change and that it is happening no matter what people believe. There is not one single person responsible for it, we all are; therefore, we need to start making some changes. However, act consequentialist’s counsel against people taking individual action to avoid climate change. They view climate change as an issue too large for individuals to take on alone, therefore, there is no moral
Climate change has been a widely debated, controversial topic. Some think that it is not an issue that should be payed much attention to. With climate changing being caused naturally and by humans, the climate has been widely changing due to ample amounts of CO2 emissions. Where the burning of fossil fuels is the main source of the human impact. As well as volcanoes being a majority the of natural emissions. Although nature contributes to the climate change humans have more widely contributed to the change of climate abroad.
There is an issue on this planet that will define this generation. The issue is climate change. Global warming. A world on the collapse as our oceans are acidified, our air polluted, our forests disappearing, and human rights issues getting worse. It seems that people are not aware of how big climate change actually is. It’s not something that only takes place on the ice caps or in the forests on the far corners of the world. This is an issue that happens here, and now. It’s real. It’s happening.
Climate change is a growing concern in today’s world. We often hear about worldwide temperature rises, and how they are caused by pollution. We are warned about some of the potentially catastrophic consequences of rising temperatures in the future. However, climate change has already begun to occur. (NASA, “Climate Change Effects: The consequences of Climate Change”). Therefore, there is significantly more talk about solutions to climate change. These solutions will reduce the causes of climate change, and also prevent any future damage or destruction caused by climate change. However, we must first understand how climate change is caused, and how it affects the Earth, in order to see how these solutions will help solve it.
Global warming is a huge concern in society that is only growing bigger because people either are not well informed about it, or they are not concerned about it. Some think that it will just go away and others still believe that it doesn’t exist, even though there is hundreds if not thousands of pieces of evidence that supports otherwise. One of the biggest pieces of evidence that proves global warming is real is the effect that photosynthesis has on global warming.
The issue of global warming should be on the list of our top priorities. Studies show that the average of global temperatures have risen since the Industrial Revolution began. Since the Industrial Revolution, human emissions has quadrupled the frequency of certain heat extremes and many scientists have warned that a failure to bring greenhouse gases under control could eventually lead to a 62-fold increase in extreme heat blasts (Gillis Justin A17). Most of the increase is due to human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. These activities contribute to a build-up in carbon dioxide and other gases in Earth’s atmosphere. The Earth’s atmosphere is made of gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen. These gases act as a blanket that covers and gives us warmth, but once these gases such as carbon dioxide absorbs heat, but does not release it back into space in which causes the increase in global temperature. This is called the greenhouse effect because it only traps heat but does not release it.
