Global masturbation – it’s TIME magazine giving “you [and I]” the award for person of the year. TIME’s choice to do so illustrates its motive to give everyone a sense of fulfillment and belonging. Author Andrew Keen notes that at one time, creating art was an elitist business, but now democratized culture has brought egalitarian aspects to the creation of art, allowing anyone to pursue their artistic interests. He takes a cynical view on our current culture of universal creativity shared through new internet platforms. Democratized culture makes art of all types much more widespread in our society, but with the tradeoff that the art is generally of a lower quality. While this is true for all mediums, it is particularly relevant to filmmaking and directing. The flooding of low quality films causes true talent to suffer as it is drowned out by the pervasiveness of lower quality works.
In our modern day society, technology evolves and causes us to re-evaluate our understanding of art. This has been brought about by platforms such as Instagram, SoundCloud, VSCO, and YouTube – all of which reduce the barriers to entry for the publication of various art forms and provide a means for anyone to engage in the arts. This illustrates the concept of cultural democratization in which everyone is free to express their creativity, not just those who are especially skilled or trained or have the monetary means to do so. This expansive approach of bringing art to the masses has led to a
According to this report, this program focused on providing arts programs and trainings for military veterans and service members as well. This policy also wants to cooperate with both social medias and healthcare organizations in order to hold healing groups to help people to recover and using digital technologies to increase the accessibility to arts (“2013 Report And Recommendations”, 4). First of all, I love their ideas of working with social media companies and high-technology companies. Nowadays, we rely on those two things the most, and try to let them get into the art world is actually making arts more visible and accessible to people. In the report, they said “Although we must take care to preserve the integrity of art, we should also welcome new digital changes and use them to improve our field” (“2013 Report And Recommendations”, 20). They also gave an example of how to digitalize the arts and let them easy to access, which was letting the music therapists
My project revolves around artists, artistry, and the process of creation. Using sound and imagery, I attempt to capture the artistic process of diverse and interesting individuals; then package that into a short-form documentary that can be easily accessed and enjoyed by anyone interested. My intended target audience is the young millennial prosumer, 18-30-year-old group. The pilot is distributed and marketed through Vimeo, along with marketing through cross-promotion with Slug Christ’s online presence.
Alfred C. Kinsey is regarded as the first major figure in the research of human sexuality, more specifically masturbation. Kinsey was groundbreaking in his research on sexuality and made it possible to talk about sex. In the early 2000s, masturbation has become more accepted for both males and females yet there is still a stigma about discussing it openly (Wells, 2006). Societies and Cultures views on masturbation have changed over time and vary depending on who you are, where you are from, and the family you grew up in. Religious views on masturbation are more rigid and unchanging, unless the religion itself changes.
Also from an artist perspective, more facilitation usually also means more restriction. Translation could easily to be modeled. Simulation could easily to be cheap. Communicate a profound artistic idea via technology or unconventional materials is a challenge job, and we are still working on these challenges. Fred Tomaselli’s work are brilliant, but I still won’t consider they are profound. I am glad to see more new media works be regarded as a form of art by more and more people, but as a part of producers of those works, I think ‘be profound’ should be one of our goal, although I still don’t have clear idea if we could make
structure to a simple sketch fits under the definition of art. When we hear the word “art,” we often think immediately of framed paintings on a wall, but in reality, art is everywhere. Limited it is not to what hangs on your living room wall. Look around, the clothes you wear, the building you live in, the fork you eat with; nearly everything you see has been carefully constructed and designed for a specific reason. Even if it wasn’t created to serve a utilitarian function, all art has a
The reason why I feel like kid masturbation is looked down upon is because they are doing an act off of watching a graphic video and they feel like their child is too young for that and they don’t want their child associating themselves with that so that’s why people look down at kid masturbation I feel like the main reason is because of the fact if they please themselves at that very young age then they will want more at a younger age for example a kid starts masturbating at the age of 12 years old and four years later the kid turns 16 and he wants more than just masturbating and the kid wants to experience the real thing and the kid goes down the wrong path and either gets pregnant or gets somebody else pregnant in the process of everything.
Masturbation is a universal language. Masturbation is practiced among all cultures, all genders, and all ages. Why then, if this is such a normal act, does society find such a hard time speaking about it? If more people knew of the total-body health benefits of masturbation, this topic could be spoken of openly and without trepidation. There are physical, sexual, and mental benefits to regular masturbation that, over the years, have been ignored in an effort to get people to not mention the “indecent” topic. The conversation needs to be changed from self-stimulation shame, to masturbation being a total-body health essential.
Anarchy. Reincarnation. Transformation. Art itself cannot be defined by the limited vocabulary available to us. It’s so much more than we allow ourselves to access. Art means destruction, the total and complete reversal of everything we knew before. Art is yielding to the chaos inside us, restructuring our identities to the whims of that wily beast. When we create, we are born again in a new form. The process of creating something valuable is one that begins with complete and utter oblivion, and contorts into the manifestation of everything we are and everything we hold dear. My art has always been the thrill I find from exploring and critically analyzing issues of social justice. Over the years, my perception of these issues has changed dramatically, as have my outlets of expression, but the one constant has always been my capacity to find empowerment from raising my voice.
Social Media, WikiLeaks, Youtube, etc.) we must hold on to the principles of philosophy to guide us, as advancement can lead to more complex dilemmas of morality, ethics, and human nature. As an artist, philosophy is a tool of justification of taste. It unlocks a word of judgement that will be both critical, but also innovative as we create our own work, while analyze each
In today’s society, technology and art go hand in hand. Art has been around for a long time but technology such as computers are still very new. These two mediums have comingled and now evolve and effect the other. Art has changed to reflect the vast improvements technology has contributed to communication and the ability to create using digital space. Technology has also changed with artist pushing the boundaries of what is technical possible in the digital realm. Much of today’s art is created and presented in digital formats. The question of whether digital art is truly art has risen among many critics in the art community.
“The government and the cultural and creative industries need to take a united and coherent approach that guarantees equal access for everyone to a rich cultural education and the opportunity to live a creative life.” If the government and industries have a reason for art, it will create many opportunities for the ability to build their art skills and there will be efficient funding.
Walter Benjamin’s work on the concept of ‘aura’ has clarified and elucidated why art and other media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin’s ‘The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction’ provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world. Benjamin’s concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had such an effect on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura would be applied to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions in which users share ideas, images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users sabotage aura through the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter Benjamin felt about reproductions.
Going through four years of high school, a place where kids are at the age where many start to explore their sexuality, a lot of talk is heard about different sexual acts. One of the sexual acts that people don't discuss much is masturbation. While many people do masturbate it is not a topic that most people feel like they can openly talk about. Being a female, I noticed that when I did hear talk of masturbation it was always between people of the male sex and I rarely heard it spoke about by other females. My intent in my research is to explore the stigma behind masturbation. Is it less socially acceptable for women to participate and talk about masturbation then it is for men? Through my research I believe that I will find that people believe it is less socially acceptable for women to participate in and openly discuss masturbation then it is for men. I believe that I will find this result because of the societal standards that have been put in place for women that keep them from being open about their sexuality.
Art is an expression of the mind that is open for interpretation. We are appealed to the mystery behind every meaning and the ability to the be the judges. However, what happens when that ability is lost? When art is no longer open to interpretation because the artists already know what they aim to make us believe. The power of manipulation is strong and we find ourselves falling for it everywhere we go. How we see art is influenced by what we know or what we do not know, and manipulation relies in what we do not know. The problem is we let ourselves become victims to the media’s power, losing the ability to see the meaning for ourselves. Art has transformed from free expression of the mind to becoming a tool in one of the world’s largest
While not directly related to orgasm, the discussion focused on the closely related topic of masturbation in youth. There has been a great deal of research conducted over the years regarding the subject as a whole. Unfortunately, the generalizability of the findings has been limited for a number of reasons including the difficulty of conducting sex-related research on subjected younger than the age of consent or maturity (jurisdictionally dependent), lack of cultural consistency, sample size limitations, self-report methodology (e.g.; honesty, semantics, completeness, self-selection bias, etc.), and difficulty isolating non-multivariate factors to serve as a baseline (Driemeyer, Janssen, Wiltfang, & Elmerstig, 2016). This research, first reported in the May publication of the Journal of Sex Research, sought to remedy this by using previous findings as an operationalized baseline to inform more comprehensive questions, though it did little to address the sample-bias present in previous findings. In short, the research sought to ascertain gender differences in the discovery, experience, and perception of masturbation in Swedish adolescents.
