Global overview of the industry The petroleum industry includes the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining, transporting (often oil tankers and pipelines), and marketing petroleum products. The oil is used as feedstock for many chemicals, including drugs, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides and plastics.
