The temperature in Colombia ranges from a very tolerable 30 degrees, to a chill 10°. That means you may or may not have to pack the sunscreen, sun hat and shade umbrella. Long sleeves and pants are not only a good idea for cold days, but also to protect yourself against mosquitoes. A raincoat and rainboots are always a good idea in tropical countries such as Colombia, as is a waterproof bag, for the immensely humid areas such as the Pacific coast and the Amazon to hold valuables such as electronics. It is very important to leave expensive jewellery and unnecessary luxury at home. Colombia is not all breath taking rainforest and sparkling oceans, there are some places in Colombia that some people would argue are not so pleasant at night. Due
Colombia actually hasn't always been called Colombia and its first name was the Republic of Colombia. That name came from the viceroyalty lands that was made up of other Latin American countries, which split apart in 1818 and was when Colombia then adopted its new name. Now their capital is Bogota. The country itself actually sits in quite a scenic place with oceans and mountains all around them. Colombia is in the northern part of South America, between Panama and Venezuela and is also bordering the Caribbean sea(cia). Colombia usually has cool tropical weather with flat coastal lowlands, High lands, The andes and some great plains. Their total area is approximately twice the size of Texas, with 1,138,910 Km of total land. With a population
“Scientists have been warning about global warming for decades. It's too late to stop it now, but we can lessen its severity and impacts” - David Suzuki. Global warming, a primary topic of debate in various conversations throughout all levels of government, has been an issue for countless years. In fact, of the 134 years recorded, the 10 warmest years have all occurred “since 2000, with the exception of 1998 “(NASA). Solving a global issue such as this is not as easy as it may seem; however ,The Paris Agreement vows to do just that by setting a plan to limit global warming to well below 2°C in “the first-ever universal, legally binding global climate deal” (Europa). Before signing off on such an agreement one must analyze the many negatives
In 2010, employees in Cancun Mexico made it a goal to try to decrease global warming to less than 2 degrees celsius (3.6 degrees fahrenheit). During this time researchers noticed that storms were beginning to get more intense, wildfires were spreading and drought was increasing. Kevin Trenberth, a senior scientist and head of the climate analysis section of the Independent National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) stated that, “Warming over land is twice as intense as over the ocean which is exacerbated over the Arctic where retreating sea ice reflects less light and so it produces less cooling” (Live Science). In 2009, the sea surface temperatures in the subtropical Atlantic were 1.1 degrees celcius (2 degrees farenheit) which was above
As our trip to Colombia approaches, I wanted to share some additional information. I have two very good friends currently stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota and they shared some very helpful advice:
Peru has many ecotourism attractions, such as the lost city of Machu Picchu, the Andes Mountain, as well as the Amazon Rainforest. All of these natural landmarks are adversely affected by climate change. Machu Picchu is eroded by tourists as well as by changes in geography. Not only are the glaciers in Andes Mountains being melted due to global warming, but the general population, whose water supply is from said glaciers, are being affected as well. The Amazon Rainforest is constantly at risk because the residents intend to continue logging, as they make money and do not care for the future of the Amazon Rainforest. Society continues to change due to the fact that there is less of the water supply, causing inflation
In this article it talked about the climate changes in latin america. Some of this changes include, the sea level rise, the rainfall pattern, melting glaciers, agricultural regions, and the development of diseases. All of these changes are happening in Latin America. It also talk about what latin america has.
Ecuador a country of wonder, filled with untold riches, a country full of culture. When walking the streets of Ecuador one can smell the cocoa and Banana trees, one is able to see people embracing each other in their own native language. From a distance one sees the sparkling oceans and takes a moment to inhale its beauty, but sadly over the last few years Climate Change has been having a deleterious effect on poor coastal communities who rely on the production of cocoa, Bananas and a stable water level as a source of income and stability. Coastal cities like Esmeralda, Manta and La Libertad have had to face the devastating impacts of climate change in their communities due to the carbon dioxide emissions produced by developed countries.
These days, scientific-technology and agricultural technology have been developed. However, in spite of this advancement, weather and climate change has influence on many facets of agriculture on bad side. It can cause the instability of agricultural supply and demand due to frequent unusual weather, the new disease and insect pest and prevalence of weed grasses. On this wise, climate change in agriculture causes great damage.
Similarly to other nations, Colombia had been heavily impacted by climate change, and having 30% of the population living below the poverty line truly aggravates the situation. According to WWF Global, IPCC fourth assessment report in 2014 found that “the retreat of glaciers are affecting already compromised water availability for consumption or hydropower generation, between 1990-2000 a 82% reduction in glaciers, shows a linear withdrawal of the ice of 10-15 [mm] yearly, and under the current climate trends, glaciers of the country will disappear completely within the next 100 years. In the future, sea levels rise, weather and climatic variability and extremes modified by global warming are very likely to have impacts on mangroves, and SLR
I found it to be extremely concerning that it has been proposed that this transformation in the biodiversity could be so detrimental, that fragments of the Amazonian rainforest could soon be altered into tropical savannahs (Bellard et al., 2012).
The idea of global warming has been drilled into many childrens heads’ starting 5th grade. From there, it has never stopped. The idea that the ozone layer is breaking up around the North Pole is scary, and there isn’t anything society can do about it. It’s not like an illness or cut where a doctor can prescribe medicine or put a Band-Aid on it. It’s a real global disaster. It’s a global disaster that could potentially ruin Earth. Global warming is not only affecting people’s health, but it is also destroying life on Earth in its process.
Climate change has been an argument going on for years now. Since industrialization, there has been numerous debates asking the question: Is climate change due to natural evolution or is it the human species causing this change? Scientist’s try their best to predict the future, but it is just that, a prediction. Take a meteorologist for example. Your local weatherman states that it is going to rain that day and you take all of the necessary precautions for this incident only to see that it does not in fact rain. Climate change has not only been debated by scientists around the world, but also become a major political debate as well. Politicians are generally out for one thing, and that is popularity. Climate change is a topic that is constantly changing. You never know what to believe in their speeches. This brings me to my point, which is you never really know what is going to happen.
In 2006, former senator Al Gore created an academy award winning documentary on global warming entitled “An Inconvenient Truth” . The movie earned several awards including an academy award for best documentary and gore later received a noble peace prize. The movie discussed several different topics of great concern to global warming; such as permafrost, climbs in temperature, extinction of species, drought, and fatigue to name a few. Four writers in five different articles discussed the three topics of greenhouse gases, climate change, and causes of global warming. These writers are writer and scholar Bill McKibben in “Think Again: Climate Change” and “How Close to catastrophe”; William J. Broad, writer for the New York Times in “From a Rapt audience, a call to cool the hype”; writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kevin O’Brien, in “Global Warming? I won’t be losing any sleep over it”; and Alan Zarembo, staff writer for the the Los Angeles Times, in “Game over on global warming?” All though the articles explain some different topics from one another, only one of them disagree with gore on the causes for global warming being humans, they all agree that there will be impacts to the environment, and all of them believe that greenhouse gases are one of the primary causes for global warming.

Global warming is the steady increase in the Earth’s average surface temperature. There are two sides of this story. Some people believe that global warming is caused by the natural components in the environment and not man-made production of carbon dioxide, while the others believe that it is caused by man-made production of carbon dioxide and not by natural components in the environment. Global warming is due to the increased level in temperature of a climate which is certainly not proven that the humans are the cause of this global warming effect. With the ethos approach, this documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle by British television producer Martin Durkin from Wag TV Production in UK, presents a number of respected scientists, economists, politicians, and writers who dispute the scientific consensus regarding fictitious global warming. According to the narrator “The earth’s climate keeps on changing, but there is nothing unusual about the current temperature and the scientific evidence does not support the notion that the climate is driven by CO2 man made or otherwise.”
