In 2010, employees in Cancun Mexico made it a goal to try to decrease global warming to less than 2 degrees celsius (3.6 degrees fahrenheit). During this time researchers noticed that storms were beginning to get more intense, wildfires were spreading and drought was increasing. Kevin Trenberth, a senior scientist and head of the climate analysis section of the Independent National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) stated that, “Warming over land is twice as intense as over the ocean which is exacerbated over the Arctic where retreating sea ice reflects less light and so it produces less cooling” (Live Science). In 2009, the sea surface temperatures in the subtropical Atlantic were 1.1 degrees celcius (2 degrees farenheit) which was above
Global climate change is more than just raising the concentration of GHG’s in the atmosphere, it’s a serious health threat. Dr. Howard Koh, of the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health, has stated that global warming is a threat to human health because of an increase in respiratory and allergy aggravation,
Task four is about shows how global warming affects the earth. This is about all the impacts that global warming causes. This is also about what will global warming do t the earth in the future.
The intensity, frequency, and duration of North Atlantic hurricanes, as well as the frequency of category 4 and 5 hurricanes, have all increased since the early 1980s (Bell 2012). The increase in hurricanes can be linked to higher sea surface temperatures caused by multiple outside sources. Human induced emissions of heat-trapping gases and particulate pollution are two of the possible sources that are affecting the sea surface temperature. Humans are the main contributor contributing to climate change and global warming, but most seem not to care. Not only is the amount of hurricanes increasing, but heat waves are increasing and intensifying in some western parts of the country. Heat waves have become more frequent across The United States in recent decades. Western regions are setting records for numbers of heat waves and droughts in the 2000s. Data collected suggests that the droughts over the last decade in the West represent the driest conditions in the last 800 years (Vose 2005). With varying weather all over the country, the real estate market is beginning to be affected as well. Popular ski capitals will no longer have their icy slopes and eventually the popular beaches will be too hot to visit or will not have any beach left, causing drops in vacation rentals and permanent housing
Climate change is no doubt one of the greatest threats to this planet today. Coastal cities flooding due to melting ice caps and rising water levels, cities experiencing extreme weather, and ocean life dying because of warmer water temperatures, it is not wonder why so many scientist and country leaders are worried about the safety and future of their country. The U.S. is just one of these countries where climate change endangers 323 million people. That is why the U.S. must take action to ac=assure the future of their residents and safety of their numerous coastal cities. Due to the reising coastal water levels and the revoking of past federal orders, President Trump should initiate more federal acts that acknowledge the need for the preparation of coastal military bases and communities due to rising water levels, provide more support and financial aid to the benefit of coastal military bases, and greater explain ways to deal with the progression of climate change instead of just dealing with the adaptation.
We once lived in a world lush and plentiful where we enjoyed all the natural resources peacefully. However at the beginning of the industrial revolution more people moved to the cities therefore increasing their dependency load. Fastforward to today and the world has seen a drastic change in the loss of natural resources as well as a number of health related illnesses like asthma. This is mainly due to the effects from carbon pollution, greenhouse gases and global warming. Canada as a country is thought of as environmentally aware and progressive. Actually has many issues regarding this topic and if it is not taken care of it will affect the future of the nation. I care about this topic because it has to
In the movie by PBS, “Global Warming: The Signs and the Science” it discusses how our planet is affected by global warming and some potential consequences we will encounter because of the effects of Global Warming. It also describes different strategies that could help reduce greenhouse emissions.
Most of us consider drought as a period of dry and hot weather with too little or no rain, and while any or all of these conditions might be existent during drought, the definition of drought is more complex and subtle. According to the United States Geological Survey, California Water Science Center (as cited in Congressional Digest, 2015, p. 2):
During the Canadian Climate Change conference, there were many compelling arguments for both sides. On the side that wanted Canada to take immediate action, they brought up the fact that our future generations would have to suffer from the consequences of our selfish, greedy and reckless lifestyle of burning fossil fuels. Furthermore, they exaggerated the outcomes of manmade climate change and bringing up feelings of pity for the future generations because they will have to live in a polluted world that humans created. They said that if we do not take action now, there will be many jobs lost due to climate change. Although there are many jobs in the fossil fuels business, they will not continue forever because they are finite and will run
Because most greenhouse gases would remain in the atmosphere for a long period of time, the temperature of the earth will be continuously rising. If global heat-trapping emissions proceed at a medium to high rate, temperatures in California are expected to rise 4.7 to 10.5°F by the end of the century1. With the rise of temperature, the climate of California would also be changed. California has large area of forest and farmland, hundreds of miles of coastline, large amount of snowpack, and other natural wonders. And these special treasures of nature are especially at risk2. So it is very necessary to understand the strategies of California to combat climate change.
I read an article published on CNN titled "Climate change could leave Californians with 'weather whiplash". In the article, it explains how California is known for its nice and soothing environment but with the enjoyable weather comes major shifts in its climate causing the weather patterns to be weak between drought and flood. The climate patterns have significant impacts on society and human life, causing extremely climate conditions only making mitigation and adaptation that much worse. According to UCLA Center for Climate Science, the dramatic swings from wet to dry will be twice as likely every 25 years, by 2100.
Global warming has been issue for a very long time in Canada. From 10,000 years ago, to the mid 1800s, ppm (parts per million) levels of Carbon Dioxide were constant at 280 ppm, now the ppm levels have risen to 360 ppm. (Environment and Climate Change Canada, (2010.18.03), Environment Canada-Water) In a 2007 report, the temperature has increased 0.13 degrees Celsius every decade, since 1951 to 2005, now every decade the temperature has increased 0.2 degrees Celsius every decade since 1990. (De Souza, M., (2013.09.23) Mounting evidence of global warming? Six questions about IPCC | canada.com) With the increase in temperature, the Arctic sea ice has shrunk in the last 30 years. In 1980, the sea ice was 7.5 million square kilometers and in 2012 the ice had shrunk to 3.3 million square
Global warming is a huge concern in society that is only growing bigger because people either are not well informed about it, or they are not concerned about it. Some think that it will just go away and others still believe that it doesn’t exist, even though there is hundreds if not thousands of pieces of evidence that supports otherwise. One of the biggest pieces of evidence that proves global warming is real is the effect that photosynthesis has on global warming.
The 21st century has begun with one of the most challenge security threats to the United States of America have had to face. The perils of climate change have the ability to impact the national interest concerning power, prosperity and peace. The continued challenges around the world, and domestically, it is critical the US implements a comprehensive grand strategy. Cooperative security gives the US the best possibility to achieve the goals that will lessen the effects and place the US ahead of the international agenda. Combating climate change will require successful policies such as international climate pacts, collective-action and cap and trade initiatives. In the past, we have seen the US shy away from such accords worried about the
Chile happen to be a tri-continental country with territory including the Southwest portion of South America, East Island in Oceania and part of the Antarctica to the South. It is border to the North by Peru, East by Bolivia and Argentina and to the south by the South Pole and the West by the Pacific Ocean. Chile has a surface area of approximately 2,006,096km2 and a population of 15,668,271 (2002 census). As a Unitary Republic, the political administration is fractioned into three territorial levels of governance – administrative region (15), province (54) and municipalities (346).
The purpose of this paper is to contemplate the use of information and all the knowledge gained from this class in regards to my work on climate change effects on water resources. Specifically, my purpose is to search for knowledge and data from paleoclimatic evidence that will allow us to make better future climate projections for the model that uses the effects of climate to water resources. To put this into perspective, when we look at the data set from 1900 to present and attempt
