Global Warming Skeptics

Global Warming is one of the biggest hoaxes in the modern day, and there are a lot of reasons why. There is actually no real scientific proof that the warming occurring is from the rise of greenhouse gases from human activity (Tesla). The warmer periods in Earth started 800 years before rises in CO2 levels in the atmosphere (Tesla). The Earth has always had significant changes in climate throughout geological time (Tesla). Brian Sussman and Mark Hendrickson both deny global warming is due to the fact that human are polluting the earth with emissions and other waste products. They both agree that the climate around the globe is changing, but they both say that it is a natural occurrence. Mark Hendrickson and Brian Sussman both made great arguments against manmade global warming, but I am still a little undecided as to which side of the fence I am standing on.

Climate Change Contrarians are interesting, as there are certain elements they possess that are beneficial and detrimental. I would argue that their skeptical view could be helpful to the point of them not just blindly following the status quo, but their extreme skepticism can proceed to the point of denying undisputed facts that govern the environment around us, which can politically polarize the issue of climate change and distract from the reality of what is actually happening and how it should be addressed. For my analysis of climate change contrarians, I read selected parts Crichton’s text “State of Fear.” I found his author’s message was interesting as it very clearly laid out his personal position on climate change. While I agreed with some aspects, I definitely found myself questioning and sometimes chuckling at the arguments he presented against climate change.

Purpose and Significance: The purpose of the two studies was to find out whether dire global-warming messages could actually create skepticism regarding global warming’s existence among those who held strong just-world beliefs. Proof that global warming exists is becoming more and more evident as each year goes by. However, using dire messages may not be the best way educate the masses on global warming. If dire messages are proven to only increase skepticism of global warming, then changes in the way global warming is being presented needs to be made.

Glaciers all over the world are receding. Carbon dioxide emissions have grown by 90% since 1970. Species are going extinct due to habitat loss. Weather is becoming more extreme, such as more droughts and more hurricanes. Ocean levels are rising. Climate change is a common occurrence for earth, and I think it's safe to say there is definately a climate change occurring. What people have to consider now is whether or not we will be able to sustain life for hundreds of years to come or if we should all just pack up and move to mars before the earth extincts us itself.

These people present two opposite points of view on the issue of climate change, it’s importance and reasons of appearance. The first group emphasizes that global warming is a considerable and serious problem which everybody should take into account. In other words, these scientists believe that burning of fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas is the major reason for climate change as well as CO2’s penetration into the atmosphere. However, the second group represented by scientists-skeptics offers an alternative and apparently assumes that there are many reasons for climate change: the sun, clouds, oceans, orbital variations of the Earth and other inputs. The Environmentalists claim the science is settled, and that any actions taken to prove otherwise will be unfruitful. They do this to turn public attention away from the fact that much of their data is purposely taken out of context, manipulated, or made up in order to prove that Manmade Global Warming exists. In fact, there is more evidence showing that the rise in temperatures may be due to solar activity or part of the Earth’s natural climate fluctuations, than to support that it is caused by greenhouse gases generated by humans.

Extensive research from various scientists indicate that, from carbon emissions and several other factors, global warming does exist. Many scientists and officials claim that the Earth is being warmed more and more each day, while others claim the Earth is going through a period of above average temperatures, as is has many times before. Evidence can sway uneducated citizens towards the facts of global warming or the “hoax.” The rise in carbon emissions and average temperature of the entire Earth cannot be ignored. But, many say that this is just a periodical rise in climate temperatures. Others say that there is no warming and the evidence is fake or a hoax. But, after all positions are taken, global warming is a serious issue that needs attention.

Climate change has become one of the most hotly debated topics in the world of politics in recent years. It is an issue that if not addressed by the global community could lead to a much harsher world for our descendants. One side will argue that climate change is merely a natural process that our planet goes through over time, and human beings have little to no effect on these atmospheric changes. The other side would argue that through the increased use of fossil fuels (fuels derived from the remains of long dead plants, algae and other organisms compressed over millions of years into coal or oil) in recent decades is the main contributor of carbon dioxide (CO2 a naturally occurring gas vital to life with the ability to absorb and redirect heat from the sun back to the surface of the earth) increases since the start of the industrial revolution.

One may believe Global Warming is tedious and a myth and show no concern for the environment surrounding them. The reason for choosing this topic of Global Warning is because Global Warming is a reality that the world must recognize. People must understand the many changes occurring on earth as well as the people all over the world have prevented global warming. The earth has many changes that have occurred in the past and further events waiting to occurring in the future. There are many facts to prove the people are not noticing the harm we are undertaking towards earth.

NASA and the scientific community states that global warming is not a hoax and there is a rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature due to greenhouse gases released as people burn fossils.
