Global Warming Skeptics

4.) Some of the issues that are discussed in the skeptic community say that because CO2 is only a trace gas in the atmosphere (~400 p.p.m.), it can only have a minor effect on the climate. Climate denial groups may also argue that global warming stopped recently, a global warming hiatus, or that global temperature is decreasing, leading to global cooling. These arguments are based on short term fluctuations and ignore the long-term pattern of warming. Other forms of skepticism argue that no significant climate warming is taking place at all, claiming that the warming trend measured by weather stations is an artefact due to urbanization around those stations (“urban heat island effect”). Another is the doubt that human activities are responsible for the observed trends; leading to believe that the human activities are not responsible for the observed trends.
The concerns that climate skeptics expressed can be scientifically disproven with both past and …show more content…

Scientists have known for over a century that even this small proportion has a significant warming effect, and doubling the proportion leads to a large temperature increase. For those who believed that global warming had either stopped recently or there is a global warming hiatus, by using the Keeling curve helped determine that there would be a continuous increase in CO2 concentration in relation to the burning of more fossil fuels and the increase in urbanization (Keeling, 1960). In turn it relates to those who think that the global temperature is decreasing. This goes back to the first skepticism with how the increase in the burning of fossil fuels had inadvertently raised the temperature on a global-scale and cannot bounce back to the levels that it once was 20 years ago (Keeling, 1960). Another major skepticism is that no significant climate warming is taking place at all. This is proven false due to the major contributions of the
