Globalization's Negative Impact On The Healthcare Industry

To the casual observer, globalization can be thought to have a positive impact on the entire world. This statement is definitely true for most of the developed countries, such as the United States of America. However, there are many countries that have suffered severe negative consequences as a product of globalization. Globalization refers to the development of an integrated world economy, exchange of cultural views, thoughts, and products (Wikipedia, 2013). Pologeorgis (2012) states that, essentially globalization began with the exploration and settlement of new lands. Communication and transportation advances have aided in this process.

Globalization has been around for years but it is recently that an inordinate change has been observed in the way it has impacted the healthcare industry. Globalization of health has contributed positively on patients and has helped improve American economy to a great extent.

Globalization is the ability in which an organization develops an ability to integrate people, communications as well as technology into other different nations.

Globalization has had both a positive and negative impact throughout the world. An interconnectedness within the world where complicated issues can arise creating an unevenness that can contribute to a societies as well as the individuals happiness in life (El-Ojelli, 2006:p1). Lila Rajiva used another perfect example in her article to show how globalization affects both the environment and culture of the native people. Hyundai built a factory in a small town in India. Since the factory opened, water has scarce for miles around the factory. Thanks to the scarcity of water, the local population doesn’t have water to cook, drink or bathe (Rajiva 2). Not only it is an inconvenience for the locals, it is a “death sentence” for them (Rajiva 2). From a brutal scorching dry summer, there was a death toll in the thousands (Rajiva 2). This occurred because they didn’t have enough water to survive. In this example Globalization disrupted the way of life of these people. Farmers didn’t have water to irrigate their crops. Also, thousands of people lost their lives because of globalization. These people would have been alive, if not for the greed of these corporations. In the state of Kamataka, globalization also ruined the lives of the native population. In this state, small farmers “committed ritual suicide to express their outrage at the destruction of their lives by multinational” (Rajiva 2). These farmers’ lives were completely ruined thanks to globalization. These corporations’ practices and operations pushed them out of business. One specific issue that has been associated with globalization that caught my eye was with Peru. Peru used to be a third-world country that was populated with poverty and repression. Today, Peru is now changing into a rising nation and is becoming more popular. Peru is now on the rise is because globalization raised the human development index, authorized women, and shaped a stronger country and government. Today, we consider The Human Development Index to be a dimension of a country’s social, political, and economical growth in contrast to other countries around the world. Globalization is the transnational movement of removing national boundaries towards economic, trade, financial, communication and services integration across worldwide markets.

The globalization can trigger various reactions if brought up in a conversation. Globalization represents progress, economic growth, and hope for a better future; however, critics point out the greed, exploitation, and corruption of globalization. This diversity of views is possibly due to the fact that globalization is inherently complex and involves different economic and social degrees at various national and global levels. Understanding globalization, therefore, requires one to see how all of these factors interrelate and influence each other. Peter and Robyn have done a wonderful job explaining the Globalization in reference to the environment. Peter Christoff teaches environmental and climate policy in the Department of Resource Management and Geography at the University of Melbourne. Robyn Eckersley teaches global environmental politics and international relations in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne. There are four main elements Peter and Robyn discuss throughout this book—one planet, many globalizations, Globalization and Overheated Planet, Biodiversity, and Failure of governance.

Globalization has failed on its promise of making the playing fields even between countries. Globalization has failed because in certain countries the life expectancy rates are decreasing. Many people have seen their jobs being demolished due to outsourcing. Globalization has affected people's lives since they lost their jobs. They are feeling powerless, because when they lost their jobs they won’t be able to pay their bills. When you can’t pay your bills, late fees will be added to the amount of money you owe. Due to this you can lose your home, this affects life expectancy rates because if you lose your home, you won’t be able to live on the street for a long time. This situation will most likely occur in developing nations than developed nations because developed nations have a higher advantage. Globalization was created to improve people’s lives, but it did the opposite. Globalization is now destroying people’s lives and decreasing life expectancy rates.

“Globalization is not just one impact of the new technologies that are reshaping the economies of the third millennium” (Thurow 19-31). When speaking of globalization, most people will not have a complete understanding as of what it actually means or what aspects of the world it affects. Globalization promotes free trade and creates jobs. The capital markets attract investors, resort cheap labor, and leads to job losses in some areas of higher wage. While all of this is happening, the world economy is being effected: economically, culturally, socially, and politically.

Globalization is the process of increased interconnectedness among the countries most in the most known popular areas of economics, politics, social, and culture. All of these areas are key aspects of each country and what makes them individualized. Globalization allows for countries to be able to be individuals without the conflict of their differences because of the power used to work as a whole globe. Globalization is a positive thing for the entire world, it allows for lots of development in our world by the connection there is between all of the countries interdependence on each other. The different points of globalization claim that it will lead to convergence of income, access to knowledge and technology, consumption power, living standards, and political ideas.
