In ancient times, gods were a holy image in people’s mind. Each god had its own role in the universe. Such as the role of creation, the controller of the nature, and the role of the destiny control. The gods had extreme powers, and controlled everything in the world. Worshiped gods became a daily routine for ancient people. In the minds of people in ancient times, worshiped their gods were to prevent these gods became furious, and punished them with their extreme power. Even though the gods were extremely powerful, in many epic texts we could see they also had emotions and characteristics that were just like humans. The gods create Gilgamesh as two-third divine and one-third human, and also endow him with extraordinary strength and good looking. After the people complain about Gilgamesh being a ruler who does not treat his people well, the god creates Enkidu who is supposed to be the equal of Gilgamesh. Enkidu is equal to Gilgamesh in strength and bravery. He is strong enough to oppose him which makes him strong enough to be Gilgamesh’s rival and influences Gilgamesh. Therefore, the gods can be the one who constantly interference the lives of humans. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, there are many gods, like the god of earth, the god of sun, and the goodness of love. They rule everything in nature that are beyond human control, like the weather, fertility, life, love and death. Gilgamesh is two-third god and one-third human, and he is a hero with super strength, which causes him believed himself to be above humans in the beginning of the story. But he is still a human, even he has two-third god, and the death is an inevitable and inescapable fact of human’s life. “The supreme gods, the great gods, being convened, Mammetum, she who creates destinies, ordaining destinies with them, they did not reveal the time of death” (The Epic of Gilgamesh, 143). In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the goddess of love, Ishtar who is coveted Gilgamesh’s beauty, and she wants to marry him. But Gilgamesh rejected. Then Ishtar feels angry and insulted, which are the feeling that humans have. Sometime, the gods are very emotional and childish. The gods decide to destroy humanity through a great flood for no reason, and the only man that survives from the flood and becomes eternal is also no reason.
