It’s crazy to believe that your life can change in a blink of an eye. Graduating high school you think about freedom and getting to do whatever you want. After walking the stage my life has changed immediately, responsibilities came across my path. I had to learn how to grow up and take responsibilities the hard way, working hard to save up money to pay for my college courses. That’s part of life trying, to figure out what’s right and what’s wrong, trying to figure out how to deal with emotions. From the past semesters I have had so many stressful moments to the point where I sometimes felt like giving up, but with the support of my family boosting up my self-esteem helped me make it through my freshman year of college. Life is like a rollercoaster you experience many ups and downs but in the end it’s worth the ride.
Becoming a college student has been a different experience than what I had in mind, you learn how to do everything on your own and putting your part into it. If you don’t do your best it’s going to be a waste of money and semester. Money is a big important thing in college, back then you didn’t have to work for money to pay for school but, becoming a college student work is a requirement. Normally people who get the help from financial aid are the ones who slack off, but if you pay everything with your own money you would most likely try your best to pass because you don’t want your money to go down the drain. You learn the value of many things especially
In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have learned responsibility. Without responsibility in college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make the right decisions, don’t let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. Don’t let college change you for the worst, take advantage of
I noticed you sent an announcement out about seeing our grade as of Friday in the handout section, but when I try and click on that section there is no link for it. Also, from what I can recall, on the quizzes, and Rocketmix I am not doing well in your class and would like any and all suggestions you have for me. I'm feeling upset with myself as I've been doing well in all of my classes since attending the CSUDH I'm on track to graduate Summa Cum Laude. I have had many struggles in the past with school and getting my first Associates degree and I believe being a first generation college student did not help matter but now 10 years have past since my first degree and I've learned to be a better college student since then and going into
My life just like everyone else on this crazy rollercoaster has been filled with lots of ups, lots of downs, and quite a few unexpected corkscrews. For me those downs have always felt more like the rollercoaster was flying off the rails and was never going to go back. Of course, given time things might not return to how they were but they will return to a constant and steady state. Some things will help speed up the process and other things are going to make it worse or slow it down. It’s all about finding new things that make you want to hop back in line and take another go around the track. Going to college has really changed how everything in my world works in a way for the better. The terror of showing up on the first day and knowing that your life is in your hands for the first time ever is terrifying, but at the same time it’s also the most exhilarating feeling. Everyday has been a new adventure and each time I think about what’s going to happen
First, college tuition is very expensive, when you have to pay out of pocket. Depending on how many classes students take the more expensive it is. In my case I needed to organize myself money wise. Being my 3rd semester of college I already have a second job. Paying for tuition and books. Not to mention that books aren’t cheap either. With saving money I cannot forget to pay for other bills that I am responsible for; like my car, insurance and phone. I can be sure of that college has me pretty broke.
Living life in the fast lane for the second year in a row. No parental guidance. Freedom. The best times of a person’s life. College is certainly an experience that is a wake-up call for high school students transitioning to and adult lifestyle. My particular experience, my sophomore year, caused me to learn some life lessons the hard way and fast. I allowed all of the fun that undergraduate life had to offer steer me, and my focus, away from my main purpose of being in school which was to earn a degree. I felt as if I had no discipline, nobody to hold me accountable for my actions and grades other than myself. When I began my undergraduate career, I had no drive to do more than what was required of me in order to continue my enrollment at Hampton University. Lastly, the lack of focus that I portrayed was evident by the choices that I made. It took me having to fail three courses in one semester to see the consequences of how I was living. Failing those three courses at once caused a catalyst to occur in my educational and personal life that motivated me to change and do better overall.
According to a report from Thomas Nelson Community College website, 15.7 percent is the graduation rate in 2010. 84 percent of students failed to receive their degree. That’s beyond sad. College can be difficulty especially with everyday life is getting harder to main family life work and financials. Because college is challenging, I know that I have issues that I must overcome. I told myself the more patient 's I have the better success I will have. Although college will be difficult my goal is to gain the knowledge. I need to improve through my life challenges so that I won 't end up a statistic.
In today’s society, going to college is expected of teens. As a teen, it seems like everyone is going to some type of higher education, whether it’s a trade school, community college, or a university. For aspiring writers, going to college for some type of writing degree is a great debate in itself. The most popular issues with going on to higher education is how expensive it is, and the necessity of a degree for writing (spoiler alert: it isn’t actually required). However, there are also other issues to consider when wanting to be a writing such as the purpose of a degree for writing, finance for getting into college, a wide-range of skills,
Colin Powell once said, "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." The secret to success is preparation; however, preparation for college does not come easy, and there is only so far you can go by preparing yourself. I tried that, and if you look at my first college semester grades you can see that did not work. High school really is only there to prepare you for college; however, not everyone goes to college, and there is only so far you can go with a high school diploma. You really have to go to college to succeed, but when you come to college everyone is on different levels academically. Some come to college not even knowing what they want to major in. That is absolutely inexcusable of the high school system, which should better prepare students for college and their future careers.
Wow, I dedicated my lifetime and knowledge to a company for fourteen years, without warning I find myself unemployed without a degree! I thought the company that I worked for would be there forever. I assumed that the commitment, dedication and knowledge would be enough; I never considered that one day the company would cease to exist. I never attempted to complete my degree after taking this job, I was told that a degree would never impact my employment or the pay; looking back I realize that was flawed thinking. I find myself enrolling in school at the age of forty eight, needing a degree, in order to take care of my family. My children will be entering college in the next year; I will need to be in a position financially to ensure that happens. In this paper, I will share the challenges that I will face by returning to college, I have narrowed the many challenges and these are the two, which I believe will impact me the most.

Do to the assorted experiences, classes and instructors I have had the opportunity to interacted with in college, I am prepared to work in any environment whether it is customer service in a credit union, to bartending, as well as training staff for a restaurant while I finish up my education. My college years, so far, has provided me a unique opportunity to engage in areas which I would never entertained an interest in before. At present, a college education is paramount to procuring a position in many industries. I have noticed, in many instances, a degree from college is a minimum requirement for most employment opportunities.
Students go to college in search of knowledge, a new lifestyle, and the hope of a job after graduation. For many young adults, college is a rite of passage into an independent, mature new lifestyle. Not only is higher education a rite of passage, for some, it is also an opportunity to have a better life. Overall, college is a wonderful part of many people’s lives, yet the way the college education system is conducted wastes students time and money. College is basically composed of two parts: general education classes and major specific classes. General education courses are the source of wasted time and money, and should not be required of students. A few of the problems associated with general education classes are that they are basically
In this the future is dependent on the amount of education has been attended. It is important to continue in a higher education to have a successful future: earning a college degree is all about opening opportunities in life. The process of getting a college degree will prepare and help build confidence in order to become successful. In the article “Income Gap Between Young College and High School Grads Widens” by Kurtzleben, states “People with college degrees have a far easier time finding a job than those without a degree.” It is helpful to know that having a college degree will make life easier. When I decided to go back to college and get my degree, I was so determined to get started, I really didn’t think about what it would entail. Being ambitious and motivated, I decided to take four (4) classes on top of a busy schedule. Although the classes are divided into two classes each eight weeks it’s still a lot of work on a full-time schedule. I work full-time in the federal government as a Specialist Assistant to the Director in the Office of Legislation and I take care of my eighty-two (82) year old mom and seventeen (17) year old son. I also commute from Germantown to DC every day and most nights I don’t get home until 7:30 at night. I never knew what I was getting myself into I was just excited to get started. When I went to Frederick Community College, I took four (4) classes and received all A’s and made the Dean’s list but I took classes on campus. Given the fact that I received A’s in the past I just assumed that I could take four classes again and have the same result.
“I always thought I would sink so I never swam”, but Peirce showed me that I wouldn't sink. My eight years at Peirce is something I will never forget. Something that I’ll think about if I’m ever down. Something that makes me realize that I can do it, and I will, because my success is up to me, and only me. Over the years I have learned such an immense amount that it’s hard to even begin. My time here left me with so much more experience and skill that if you were to tell me eight years ago how amazing and supportive everyone is to help you succeed, I wouldn’t believe you. Everyone staff member, every student, everyone wants you to do your best. We are a community of supporters, and that's the best kind of community. Together everyone has grown and grown and there is still much more to come, but I’m sure everyone one of us graduating class of 2017 will be ready for it.
In order for higher education to continue to look attractive to incoming students, it must improve with the current trends of the world.
