Some people may think that Gatsby was not the most admirable, that he was childish. Gatsby was selling liquor illegally in order to become rich, in hopes it would win Daisy back. Some may think that this was foolish of him and that he was taking it too far, and I can see where that comes from, but I believe that this just shows that Gatsby would do any and everything for the people he loves, especially Daisy, even if it means involving himself in illegal activities.

A marvelous novel, “The Great Gatsby” written during the 1920’s by F. Scott Fitzgerald proposes a question about the truth of being “great”. The novel's protagonist, Nick Carraway grows close to Jay Gatsby; a rich, party man. Carraway strongly believes that Gatsby deserves to be known as “great.” Nevertheless, Gatsby should not be considered “great” for many reasons. To list a few, Gatsby does not do anything extraordinary to earn the title of “great”, does not work hard for success, and pretends to be somebody he wishes to be.

The single most admirable thing about Gatsby is his utilization of romance. Jay Gatsby is not just a failure, he’s also a massive success. After all he is the great Gatsby. But why was he able to become the great Gatsby? He is able to use his dream of a life with Daisy. James follows Daisy in the years after he is deployed to World War 1, and when he sees she has married Tom Buchanan he becomes hell-bent on replicating the success Tom has inherited in order to win over Daisy. Through moderately deceitful ways, Jay Gatsby builds his wealth and reputation to rival and even supersede many already lavish family names. Astonishingly, the great Mr. Gatsby, overrun with newfound affluence, stays true to his friends, lover, and his own ideals to his blissfully ignorant end.

Being great is something that a lot of people have different perspectives on. Perhaps to some people a person who is great is someone who cares about the wellbeing of others and always has hope. There are many different key points in the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald that make Jay Gatsby great. Gatsby is a poor man who had nothing to offer to Daisy, this woman that he had fell in love with. Ever since Gatsby has been trying to work his way up to win Daisy back by doing everything in his power to be wealthy. Gatsby is deserving of the title “Great” because of his optimism and ambitions to grow in his wealth.

Is Gatsby truly great? Gatsby was truly great because he was incorruptible. NOTHING could stop Gatsby from following his American Dream which was of an amazing and long lived life with Daisy, the woman who he has loved for years.

In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald utilizes many universal and timeless themes to make the novel a classic. He emphasizes that most people lack insight and can not see the truth. To the majority of the society, the reality is an illusion that they create in their minds. The characters, events, setting, symbols and imagery contribute to establishing this theme.
