Johnson’s first step after becoming president was to help the citizens of the U.S. and the world cope with the death of JFK. “American people actually were 190,000,000 dazed individuals; he had to give them that unity and confidence; he had to represent it to the world” (Wicker, 161). This was a great task for any man to take on and he did so with care. He showed compassion and provided comfort for the people, promising to continue the dreams Kennedy had and to make them become a way of life. These dreams caused most people to look up to Kennedy, and it turned him into a legend in the history books even though he did not accomplish all he had tried. To achieve what Kennedy had set out to do would take a great man, and a great man Johnson showed himself to be. He also “carefully honored the Kennedy legacy…and remained deeply respectful of JFK’s cabinet and top officials” (Schulman, 69).
The next steps in his greatness came out of his involvement in legislation. His biggest piece of legislation was the Great Society. His Great Society plan was similar to another “great” president FDR. LBJ had followed in FDR’s footsteps for years. He admired and carefully learned from him, but he wanted to do better than FDR and become history’s greatest president ever, and to truly make a difference in society. Through his efforts, he “revolutionized the relationship between the

When Lyndon B. Johnson succeeded the presidency after John F. Kennedy's assassination he spoke of his vision of a Great Society in America. This Great Society included "an end to poverty and racial injustice," and also was intended to turn America into a place where kids can enhance their mind, broaden their talents, and people could restore their connection with the environment. In order to reach his goal, LBJ enacted numerous proposals involving taxes, civil rights, poverty, and much more. For the most part Johnson did an excellent job on delivering his promises, but international affairs threatened the Great Society and although LBJ won the presidency in a landslide victory in 1964, by 1966 he and the Supreme Court began to face

Today, we can still be grateful for many of the things LBJ did. He was very focused on the arts, the environment, poverty, equality, and workplace safety. Due to his policies, we are privileged to have a pension when we retire, affordable healthcare; people of different races are treated equally and have the same rights as the rest of American citizens, and improved means for low-income families, etc. Although LBJ received many skeptic conservatives who did not believe that his policies were for the better of the citizens, however, US citizens should be grateful for the work of President Lyndon B. Johnson, for he was dedicated to his country and wanted the best for his citizens.

In 1963, when President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was shot in the streets of Dallas, Texas, Lyndon Baines Johnson was elected into office. Grief-stricken Americans suffered greatly from Kennedy’s assassination, while Johnson used the shock of tragedy to his advantage. Johnson was extremely crafty, and little to almost none noticed how he used grief to his advantage. Johnson compelled Americans that Kennedy would have wanted the Great Society if he was still president, and people were captivated by his words, and swayed into action. Numerous things, both beneficial and detrimental came out of the Great Society. The Great Society was Johnson’s cure to America’s problems.
He made a strong case for the Civil Rights Act of 1957 that the moderates and liberals could not say no to and got it accepted. He pushed the civil right bill to lower the intensity of Jim Crows laws and he had to compromise in it to satisfy the majority of southerners. Although it did not have a lot of success, I believe it was the first step to the sighed Voting Rights Act after he became a president. His civil rights act had given him the votes and trust of African Americans and pushed him to be a leading candidate for the democratic nomination in

I want to be the president who helped to end war among the brothers of this earth.” Without a doubt, Lyndon Johnson is saying he wants a legacy. A memorable one. And according to Howell and Moe, all presidents do.
