Greece is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is about twice as large as Louisiana. Eileven million, three hundred thousand people live in Greece. Greece is known for being one of the most scenic places on earth. Though some may disagree, Greece is an amazing place to visit because of the interesting economy, beautiful tourist sights, and ancient history.

Agriculture contributes about five percent to Greece’s GDP (Baxevanis). Agriculture is important to Greece’s GDP.
About eighty percent of the land is mountainous, and crops grow on about thirty percent of the total land area (Baxevanis). About thirty-five percent of the land consists of pastures or meadows. The meadows and pastures are where the crops grow.
Greece is among the leading olive-growing countries. Corn and wheat are Greece’s main field crops (Baxevanis). Over a hundred different types of olive trees are located in Greece.
Greek farmers raises cattle, goats, chickens, hogs and sheep for both meat and milk. Greece imports much of its livestock, meat, and dairy products from other countries (Baxevanis).
Italy imports most of the dairy products.

The construction of the Parthenon started in 447 BC, replacing an older temple that was destroyed by the Persians, and completed in 432 BC (Baxevanis). They constructed it to look that same way it did before they destroyed it. It did not take too long to start repairing it.
During its long life the Parthenon has served as a temple, fortress, a church, a mosque and even as a powder magazine (Baxevanis). The Parthenon is almost like the base point of Greece. It has served as many different purposes.
