Nike- Nike was the Greek goddess of victory. Her parents are Pallas and Styx and she has wings. The founder of Nike chose this name because he planned for everyone that wore his brand of clothing to be victorious and successful.
Mercury car company- The roman name “Mercury” is given to Hermes. He is the son of Zeus and Maia and is the messenger of Zeus. He is the god of trade and commerce and his winged shoes and cap is what sets him apart from others. Hermes was always successful at delivering his messages to other gods that they named their car company after him because one would get to their destination quick and safe.
Trident gum- In Latin, trident translates to “three teeth”. Poseidon, the sea god, is famous for always carrying a trident. Poseidon is one of the 12 great Olympians. His roman name is “Neptune” and he is second in power to Zeus. When the gum was originally created, it contained 3 enzymes that would help prevent tooth decay. Due to the fact it contained 3 enzymes, they named it Trident because it means 3 teeth. They would honor Poseidon and his trident because it is a shared name between the two.
“O Brother, Where Art Thou?”- In this 2000 film, it shows many references to ‘The Odyssey’ and Greek mythology. Three convicts search for treasure and they encounter the Sirens, Lotus eaters, and cyclopes. The Sirens are part swan, part women creatures.
