Greetings Sammie! I really appreciated your post and found many of our responses to be synonymous. While it is quite obvious that Kirk is suffering from an alcohol use disorder, I believe he has a comorbid diagnosis as well. I believe Kirk is also suffering from Korsakoff’s syndrome, which is characterized by memory loss, extreme confusions, and other neurological dysfunctions in the textbook. Even though it is not a classified disorder, I still think it is important to keep in mind for treatment since a nutritionally beneficial regimen will have to be put in place. Do you think Kirk could be suffering from Korsakoff’s syndrome? Nice post! Sarah

However, either way works for me .
Hai Resmy, good post, I like the portion you mention that Patient record plays an important role in the hospital’s ability to maintain JCAHO accreditation and are required for financial reimbursement. From a purely regulatory standpoint The Joint Commission requires the Standard of Staff are competent to perform their responsibilities. Staff competence is assessed and documented once every three years or more frequently as required by hospital policy or in accordance with law and regulation. There are numerous Joint Commission standards that require nursing documentation and can pose challenges to an organization. Nursing documentation is an overcomplicated process. Although many Joint Commission standards require documentation, hospitals
Hi Ushma. I enjoyed reading your post. I agree that hospitals have an enormous amount of paperwork which can be overwhelming, but they are necessary. I agree that hospital is starting to move away from paper to a paperless system. When I go to the doctor, I do not have to fill out too much paper work because they swipe my insurance card for my insurance information and the medical assistant keys in any other information that they need from me directly into their laptop. I agree hand washing and sanitizing are the best way for the medical staff to not only from contracting an infection, but from spreading an infection to other patients as well. I too would ask the medial staff to wash their hands if they came into my room and did not do so.
Della Barba et al. (1990) studied the case of a 67-year-old woman suffering from Korsakoff’s syndrome resulting from excessive alcohol abuse. In order to test how unstable her memory was researchers put the patient through a number of examinations. During the initial procedure, the patient was assessed both neurologically and through neuropsychological examination. Based on results from the patients CT scan, she presented mild cerebral atrophy. EMG results showed the patient had axnopathic neuropathy while EEG results showed normal results. Overall, the patients’ memory tests suggested she was suffering from impairment in her everyday life because she was not able to recall recent events in her life, nor could she retain new information.
In conclusion, because SAB 101 was released in order to curtail specific abuses, it should not be seen as a comprehensive treatise on the entire area of revenue recognition. The vast majority of companies apply the revenue recognition criteria in a very straightforward way with no questions from their internal/external auditors, from the SEC, or from investors. Thus, the revenue recognition issues covered in SAB 101 may not be comprehensive, but they are extremely important. The new revenue recognition will impact all public companies but mostly the industries such as telecommunications, software, engineering, construction and real estate. Modifications to how revenue is recognized are the way revenue is allocated, the time of revenue recognition,
Korsakoff’s syndrome is a neurological disorder caused by the deficiency of thiamine in the brain from eating disorders, AIDS, Crohn’s disease, bariatric surgery, chemotherapy, mercury poisoning, and issues with nutrition absorption and is also often exacerbated by alcohol abuse. This condition is part of a larger group of diseases related to thiamine insufficiency including Wernicke’s encephalopathy. The symptoms and signs may include anterograde amnesia, retrograde amnesia, damage to the dorsomedial nucleus, confabulation, lack of insight, apathy. The syndrome involves neural damage and hemorrage (ICD-9-CM, 1978). However, it leaves the verbal, procedural, spatial memory functioning intact (Oudman, et all, 2011). This is clearly observable
Korsakov's syndrome is a devastating impairment of recent memory that is caused by a thiamine deficiency which can result from alcohol abuse, mal-absorption, hyperemesis or starvation. Furthermore, other causes of Korsakov's syndrome also include heavy metal poisoning, head injury and tumors. A patient suffering from Korsakov's syndrome will most likely have an extensive pathology in the bilateral hippocampus and will actively exhibit confabulation. Confabulation occurs when a patient creates pseudo-memories about what happened during a forgotten episode. Also, during confabulation the patient's recall of the events of the past seem more imaginative than logical. Fortunately, although the patient may exemplify confabulation there
What is considered an ethical manner? Let’s take for instance the food industry. The producer sales its product to grocery stores and restaurants and make a profit. The Grocery store sales to the consumer and mark the prices up as well for their profit. Technically, we have no idea of how much we need to be paying for a product. How much should food cost? There are people and children going hungry in the states because they do not have enough food on the table.
Research has proven alcohol can play an immense role in altering human abilities. Consumption of alcohol can result in deficiency in motor skills such as walking. Not to mention slurred speech, slowed reaction times, blurred vision, and impaired memory. Some of these symptoms quickly diminish when drinking stops. Alternatively, a person who drinks heavily over a long period of time may have brain insufficiencies that carry on well after he or she reaches sobriety. Heavy drinking may have extensive effects on the brain, long-lasting and devastating conditions that require lifetime care; even modest drinking leads to short–term impairment, as shown by extensive research on the impact drinking has on driving.
