Imagine walking into an animal shelter, seeing the dogs and cats locked up behind bars wanting to be adopted. At an animal shelter, homeless animals are continuously looking for a home everywhere. An animal shelter in Ohio is CHA animal shelter, they are a nonprofit organization. They provide temporary care and shelter for cats and dogs and try their best to find them a loving home. Also, they provide surgery to spay or neuter the animal, and give the animal it’s required shots. Adding to, they provide an implanted microchip so the owner can track their animal if it is ever lost. CHA animal shelter has also provided a public website to view pictures of the cats and dogs and a brief background on the animal. They also have an option for donations for emergency situations, food, and supply, etc. The fact that they offer donations is remarkable because some individuals do not want to adopt a pet, but want to be apart of promoting adoption and give support to the organization. Not only does the organization try to make the pet’s life the best at the animal shelter, but CHA also hosts events to get people’s interest and gives the animals time out of the cage. I have adopted a dog from an animal shelter and it has been the best decision ever. Knowing I saved animals live brought more joy and love into my life, and nevertheless, he is the best little jack russel ever. Although I could have got a puppy from Petland, the choice of adopting a dog not only saved me money but also allowed me to save his life as well and improve his quality of life. An individual who adopts a pet is rescuing it from neglect and is giving that precise animal a second chance. In conclusion, I believe that CHA animal shelter is the best place to adopt a pet because it is less expensive than buying an animal from a pet store, it decreases puppy mills, and the individual can pick a dog or cat of any age.

Have you ever seen the ASPCA commercials where they show pictures of abused and neglected animals while the Sarah McLachlan song “In the Arms of an Angel” plays in the background? It is heart wrenching to watch and I always want to help those poor, defenseless animals. I took this opportunity to volunteer at the Town and Country Animal Shelter; a non-profit, no-kill shelter run entirely by volunteers serving eastern Nebraska and beyond. They are dedicated to providing a safe and caring living facility for pets in need until a loving home can be found, as well as helpful information for those wishing to rehome or adopt an animal. I chose this organization because they are a no kill shelter and they take in animals of all different sorts.

Hello everyone, my name is Katrina Clark. So, imagine one day you were ripped away from your family and from your home with nowhere to go, in the street, cold, starving, and have absolutely no idea where your next meal is going to come from. Well, for over 7 million animals each year that is the sad reality. I personally own around ten cats that were either from a shelter or on the street starving. I also own two dogs that I have found on the road that had been dumped and left to die. My experience with adopting these animals has truly opened my eyes to how many animals are truly in need of homes. All of these animals are sweet blessings that I wouldn’t trade for the world. The facility has not had to euthanize a healthy dog due to lack of space for several years. Programs have been developed such as the “special needs fund,” which allows for expensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and adoption for many dogs who may not of had that opportunity in previous years. However, cats provide additional challenges due to overpopulation issues. Last year approximately 800 treatable-rehabilitable/manageable cats had to be euthanized. However, programs such as the trap/neuter/release program, foster care in private homes, PetSmart and veterinary clinic housing/adoptions, and free cat adoption incentives greatly reduced the overwhelming difficulties with housing/adopting cats (Nebraska Humane Society, 2014).

While I was there I asked one of the workers that have daily contact with these animals about what she thought about puppy mills and what would be a way to avoid them and the specialty about adopting a dog/puppy from the shelter. When I was talking to the worker Kayla Kirkpatrick she told me that “adopting a puppy/dog from the shelter gives that animals a second chance in life” replied Kirkpatrick. I would strongly agree with that statement because when an animal gets a second chance to them that means being able to start a new life with people that they can actually trust. I asked her another question on what she thinks about puppy mills in response Kayla said that “they are an animal's number one nightmare, because they don't understand what's going and when the end is coming near, because it's so to hold on any longer.” After speaking to Ms.Kirkpatrick I realized now that after talking to kirpatrick that animals are just like people and desire better and that they are not just a profit or yard ornament. on Ms.Kirkpatrick's request and everybody she works with would love to see people adopting from the shelter than

Vet Ranch is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless animals with medical conditions not only get better, but to find loving forever homes. They do most of their work on their Youtube channel - Vet Ranch. The Youtube channel was started in 2014 by Dr. Matt Carriker after posting a video of the progress of a dog that was hit and left by a car. Dr. Matt is a vet in San Antonio, Texas who created the website to make it easier for viewers that wanted to donate to help save animals. Although it started out with just Dr. Matt, Vet Ranch is now made up of four amazing veterinarians that include, Dr. Karri. Dr. Wendy, and Dr. Dave who help save animals lives. The Randolph County Humane Society houses 64 pets for adoption, 54 of which are eligible for sponsorship. By sponsoring a pet, you choose to either pay to feed that pet for a month, a medical exam, getting spayed or neutered, or just a general sponsorship. 29 cats, 31 dogs, 3 mice, and 1 rat are currently housed for adoption. Most of the pets that are eligible for sponsorship are the ones up for adoption. 26 of the cats, 30 of the dogs and the mice are the ones eligible for sponsorship. Of all the animals, 2 dogs and 2 cats have special needs. For example, one of the cats is epileptic (Welcome! - Randolph County Humane Society). With nearly 3,000 adoptions each year the Longmont Humane Society in Longmont, Colorado is a magnificent animal shelter to adopt from, however, behind the scenes is a completely different story. The Longmont Humane Society has an overwhelming environment, dangerous situations, and emotionally draining events. As a result, this shelter negatively impacts the physical and emotional well-being of it’s employees.

UW Fond Du Lac, I feel, is the best school for me. I want to go into animal services which enables me to help the one thing that I have loved all my life. Being in this profession I will be able to continue doing what I love and that's protecting those animals who don't have a voice or get the chance to live a life full of love and happiness.

Well, luckily, there are shelters in different places that help animals that aren’t able to take care of themselves. If you think that figure was huge, now imagine around 1.5 million of them are being euthanized every year because the shelter doesn’t have enough money or volunteers (ASPCA) to take care of them. Owning a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but there is a fact that many individuals may not know. From what kind of places are people obtaining their pets? The two most presumed options are narrowed down to either buying at a pet store or adopting from a shelter. Even though people can get a pet from either option, there are many reasons why adopting is undoubtedly a smarter choice. Animal shelters serve for a bigger purpose, and that is to help the community and its animals. Prospective pet owners should choose pet adoption because of its health, economic, and life benefits.

It is suggested that pitbull owners feed their pets the foods that have what the breed requires in nutritional value. The dog food should contain nutrient sources that are similar to that found in their native lands that their ancestors ate. The requirements for a pitbull are a balance of protein, carbohydrates, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Many dogs are taken to the vet because of nutritional related problems. If the dog is not getting the proper nutrients that their diet requires they can suffer from dry/itchy/flaky skin, hot spots, yeast infections in the ears, or thyroid-liver-kidney problems. The best diet for the pitbull is one that the owner makes fresh, using quality ingredients, without preservatives.
