Gun Control in the United States The topic of gun control in the United states is a very controversial and debatable one. Some individuals are for the use of guns and protect the Second Amendment (the right to keep and bear arms), while others are completely against anything having to do with guns. I believe that a person should have the right to purchase a gun not only because it is our constitutional right to do so, but also because it is a form of protection for oneself and for families. Personally, I am pro-gun. I would much rather protect myself during a life or death situation than to be left defenseless and victimized. With that being said, I believe that the process in which individuals go through to obtain a gun should be more strictly enforced. Most of the crimes and mass shootings in the news today stem from individuals who have obtained guns illegally or without being registered, who are not psychologically stable, or who have fallen through the cracks of the system and have been overlooked as a threat to our society. For these reasons, I believe that we as a nation need stricter gun control laws in order to decrease the horrifying events that are happening in today’s society. We must enforce stricter screenings, psychological evaluations, and requirements for individuals, regulate what kind of guns get sold to the general population, and set into place a reporting system for the misuse of guns around the country.
