Have you ever wondered whether gun control is really for the best? The term “gun control” refers to laws or restrictions being placed on the ability to legally own or purchase a firearm. Gun control laws can vary by what they restrict. Some laws do not allow citizens to own a firearm under any circumstance. Some gun control laws allow citizens to have a firearm, but do not allow them to carry it outside. In general, whether there are gun control laws or not, there are certain types of firearms that, apart from certain people, most are not allowed to own. Americans should be allowed to possess firearms because they should be able to protect themselves, it is their right, and it will help keep people safer. The first reason against gun control …show more content…
There are many examples of someone being attacked, and then being saved by someone with a firearm. Most people that own firearms are law abiding citizens and will only use their firearm to help themselves or others. If firearms are only in the hands of criminals, the overall safety of the population will go down because they don’t have a means to defend themselves. According to Jacob Davidson “We’ve have had a remarkable decrease in violent crime and gun crime in the U.S. since the early 1990s, even though the number of firearms has increased by about 10 million every year.”(Jacob Davidson). People with this viewpoint think that if there are less legal guns on the street, crime rate and murders will go down. People with this viewpoint also believe that Americans would be overall safer with less legal guns. Although this may seem true on the surface, if firearms were made illegal, the criminals would still have them. Even if gun control laws were stricter, criminals would not turn their guns in as normal citizens would. This would overall make America more dangerous in terms of crime. There will always be people that get ahold of guns “There will always be people who fall through the cracks. There will always be evil men among us.” (Robert Farago). This quote explains why gun control may not be as effective as some people may think. In conclusion, gun control laws should not exist, and new ones should not be created. Americans have the right to defend themselves. Americans also have a constitutional right to own guns. America is overall safer when there is less gun control. Even though some may think that gun control would help keep America safe, in reality it
National Crime Victimization Survey data,”robbery and assault victims who used gun to resist were less likely to be attacked”. John Lott, PhD,and David Mustard. PhD, which claim “more guns equal less crime”. This shows that you don't even need to harm someone to protect yourself .
The recent terrorist situations in America could have turned out differently if the victims had been armed. There have been too many terrorist situations lately in America. Many people who are not in favor of gun rights want to make it more difficult or even impossible for citizens to purchase weapons. When stricter gun control is enforced, then citizens may not be able to protect themselves. We need to find a way to prevent gun related tragedies, but that does not involve taking guns away from citizens (Hockley). We need more guns in the hands of citizens, then they will be able to protect themselves during violent crimes (Goldberg). The call for increased gun rights in America is vital for the safety
There are a lot of different opinions on gun control. Some people think we should have gun control and strongly support it. I for one am not one of those people. I strongly believe that gun control would not work. Guns are not weapons they are tools used to protect your self, it is not the fault of a good samaritan that an unlawful samaritan uses them in the wrong ways. Guns are not the problem it is the people that get a hold of them. A gun can not fire a bullet its self just like a car can not drive its self.
Gun control in the United States should be abolished. Some people in the United States believe that gun control is necessary. However, it is clear that gun control is wrong and unconstitutional. Gun control directly violates the 2nd constitutionally amendment and should not be allowed. Allowing concealed guns not only brings in revenue for the government, but, it also keeps the public safe. Over 100 million people in the United States own guns solely for the purpose of self-defense. Those people deserve to be able to have and keep that right as a citizen of the United States. It is the right of the American people to make the choice on whether to own a gun or not. The positive effects that guns have on people outweigh the negative effects. However it should be noted that, all guns have the potential to be dangerous and should be handled with
Guns are not for civilians. I believe that guns are bad for a few different reasons. One reason is that people are killing other people with guns. My second reason is that good armed civilians are not always helpful when they have their weapons. My final reason is that people are committing suicide with guns. I believe that gun control should be issued because of all of the many deaths caused by guns and gun violence.
Guns offer protection to their owners, especially when their inside their homes. In a survey it has been noted that guns and their legal gun owners were able to stop approximately 2.5 million instances involving a criminal. This is great news to hear, after all we do want less crime, and less criminals walking around freely. After all what criminal wants to confront someone who they know has a gun. In fact this can be clearly seen in Kennesaw, GA in the year 1982, a law was passed saying the head of household is required to have a firearms in the house. Because of this law, home break ins plummeted down 89%. 10 years later they were still down 72% since before the law had been passed (Lives,
People have argued for decades whether we should or shouldn’t enact more gun control laws. More gun control laws should be enacted because it could reduce gun violence along with reducing the amount of deaths and crimes caused by guns and reduce teenagers from obtaining guns.
With or without guns people are going to continue being violent. The government can reduce shootings deaths by imposing restrictions that are common sense on gun access that does not violate the Second Amendment. Furthermore, imposing strict restrictions will only benefit criminals by taking away bear arms for those who could eventually save someone’s life. (“Gun Control Laws”). Gun control laws have been a big argument between Democrats and Republicans because of their beliefs. People for gun control laws believe that it would not save lives, it would not prevent school shootings, and it would not help self-defense laws.
Gun Control in America has been a major debate since 1995. The debate is never ending because there are so many situations that have surfaced, requiring different policies and exceptions. Guns in America have not only provided protection for some citizens but they have also wounded and killed many citizens. Our laws allow for possession of registered guns with a gun license but it is easy to purchase a gun without showing a legal license. We must remember that although guns are used to kill, they are not the root of the problem. Guns are sometimes used as a result of being mentally unstable. We cannot necessarily say if there were tighter gun control laws there would be less gun related fatalities but we can say that it will result in a better understanding of why firearms other problems that are considered dangerous.
Jeff Cooper, the creator of the “modern technique” of handgun shooting, an expert on the use and history of small arms, once said, “The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.” People will always have possession of arms, whether they use it for harm or to protect. There is no need to add more gun control laws. Instead, rules should be strongly enforced, specific guns should be banned in certain areas, and lawmakers need to consider people’s reactions. If the laws were tighter, then it will be more difficult to buy a gun, which will help decrease shootings.
Gun control has many negative effects on people. Having laws that deal with gun control, or the right to self- defense, denies people a sense of safety. (http://gun-control.procon.org/) Criminals will continue to obtain guns or break the laws, whether a law is set in place; gun control will not prevent mass shootings. These laws try to ban “assault weapons” but infringes upon the right to own guns for hunting and sports. United States government then gains more power and may result in tyranny by taking all guns from citizens. Background checks and
The majority of gun control supporters say with more gun control laws more lives will be saved. Many statistics show otherwise where many Americans have been able to save their lives or the lives of others due to the ownership of a gun. Gunowners.org says “Guns are used 2.5 million times a year for self-defense” . They also say “Each year firearms are used eighty times more for protection than harm”. With these statistics the banning of guns would increase the attacking rate on citizens due to their inability not to protect themselves if their gun was taken from them.
According to Washingtontimes.com, Gun don't kill people; people uneducated on gun safety kill people. There are people who own guns for the sole purpose to protect themselves and their families. If you do not know how to handle a gun, then there is more danger than protection being offered. If someone breaks into a house with no weapon and the only intention is to steal and someone who is not educated on how to handle a gun decider to confront the robber is now putting everyone in the situation in danger including the people that were protected in the first place. The robber could get hold of the gun and turn a robbery into a
The states with less gun control have less annual murders. Many people shoot guns for fun and competition. Guns don’t kill people, people kill each other. Many people have grown up in a house that has had firearms. There have been many studies that have found that people living around guns are safer because they understand how dangerous a gun can be. There should be no gun control because minimal gun control means there is less crime, guns help people feel safer, and there are many sports involving guns.
My opinion on gun control is that it is not going to work and why do something that will obviously be ineffective. I would definitely say that I don’t lean more towards controlling gun ownership or towards protecting the rights of Americans to own guns because my opinion is that neither will work. People are going to have guns whether they are told they can or not. There are many people who are capable of obtaining guns without having to go through any kind of legal process. There are crimes being committed by criminals who don’t obey the law and those criminals using guns to commit their crimes are not going to follow any kind gun control law just like they don’t follow any other law.
