The rise in cases of gun violence and related incidences of assault has drawn the public to the issue of guns and gun control. Such has been evident within the spheres of politics especially with the last election period seeing the incumbent president Donald Trump suggesting on stringent gun control laws. However, despite the acknowledgment of the need to have better gun laws, much ground and consensus has never reached. Such, to an extent, contributed to the current lack of political goodwill within the country to have the necessary legislations enacted to facilitate the same on the controls (Grandy 23). Gun Control in the United States has gone out of control. The United States should enforce laws to not allow any guns in a house hold in order to reduce violence and crime in the country. Reducing the rate of crime in the United States, controlling big weapons, taxing ammunition, and gun collection can help make this happen. Gun Control can make this country a safer environment to live in.

Last year, then-Republican candidate Carly Fiorina claimed that states with strict gun laws had “the highest gun crime rate in the nation” (Robertson, 2015). The following month, President Barack Obama stated that states with stricter gun laws “tend to have the fewest gun deaths” (Robertson, 2015). The West might have been won with a Smith & Wesson, but in our modern society guns are the subject of much debate. While some groups push for fewer guns and more gun control, others insist that increased gun control leads to increased crime. Both sides cite statistics in support of their views, yet experts who have reviewed the same data have concluded that the data is inconclusive. The contenders on both sides don’t ever address the other factors that contribute to crime, such as poverty, racial tensions, a strained and overworked police force, and the deterioration of family social structure. As a nation, we need to move beyond the never-ending debate over gun control. We need to work out a compromise that will help law enforcement put a stop to these terrible mass shootings while preserving Second Amendment rights.

On March 24, 1998, firing from the woods overlooking their school, 13-year-old Andrew Golden and 11-year-old Mitchell Johnson shot and killed four middle school students and a teacher and injured ten other students in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The two boys had a semiautomatic M-1 carbine with a large ammunition magazine, two other rifles, seven handguns and more than 500 rounds of ammunition which they took from the home of one of the boy?s grandfather, who had a large arsenal of weapons left unsecured. Officers arrested the two boys as they ran through the wooded area near the school, and they were convicted on five counts of capital murder and ten counts of first-degree battery in September 1998.

Before we can set a plan for the future, or paint a picture of the past that led us to where we are now, we must first take a snapshot of gun control legislation as it exists now. As legislation varies greatly between states, we’ll start by looking at gun control at the federal level.

Gun control has been a political and government issue for decades now, and figuring out exactly the right formula on how many laws, regulations we currently need. While some gun control regulation is necessary; increasing the amount and intensity of gun regulation is problematic because it is an infringement on second amendment rights, it does not deter crime, it allows for the government to have too much power and control over weapons, and proper regulations already exist. A middle ground stance on the issue of gun regulation is important, because if citizens are too far right or left on the matter it will be problematic. Either running into over regulation and over use of government power and if there is no regulation you run into chaos and anarchy from no control. To clarify, I draw a conclusion from the summary of gun regulations currently in place, being enforced today by the ATF today. In conclusion the need for some gun regulations and laws is a much needed necessity but the problem we seem to run into as a country is trying to shoot for too much or too little.

Gun control has not been effective in the history of the United States. Even with laws that restrict gun ownership, it will not deter or prevent criminals from obtaining weapons or crimes from happening. Statistics can back up both sides of the gun control argument, but in reality simply having stricter gun laws does not stop crimes. Even with stringent gun laws criminals will find ways around them legally or illegally.

Imagine this: you are in World History class at your high school almost falling asleep learning about Ancient China. It is a normal day for you and your classmates, until you hear an announcement from the principal. You expect the typical lockdown drill, but this situation is far from typical. A man with a gun breaks into your school. BANG! Several of your classmates are killed before this man can be controlled. You survive, but live the rest of your life thinking back to that day and wonder if you could’ve done anything differently. What you should be asking yourself is how did this crazy man get a gun? Although this situation is hypothetical, it has occurred several times in the United States. This is due to the loose gun laws of the United States. The Second Amendment protects the right for all citizens to have guns to form militias and fight against a tyrannical government. While this was built into the original constitution, it is causing many unnecessary problems in the U.S. today. Also, this definition carries little weight with militias no longer existing today. The United States should reassess gun control laws, resulting in decreased gun violence, and ultimately saving countless innocent lives.

On December 14, 2012, a gunman walked into Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, and killed 20 children and six adults. This tragedy shook the nation and made Americans wonder, how could this have been prevented? Recently published research suggests mass shootings are becoming more common in the United States. Harvard University researchers said in October 2014 that a mass shooting has occurred every 64 days, on average, since 2011, compared with every 200 days from 1982 to 2011 (McLeod). With the recent spike in mass shootings, the United States should regulate gun control by revising the process for gun purchases, ban certain gun accessories, and ban automatic assault rifles.

For gun control, there should be some requirements for the people to take in order to own a gun for themselves. Throughout the United States, gun control should allow people to still have guns; however, the citizens should go through some changes to ensure safety throughout the nation. Gun control has given some helpful ideals before that would help the people understand the responsibilities of their guns. They want to make sure that these laws maintain to progress as a better solution. Authorities should suggest on adding more security throughout the nation. Most citizens believe guns can still be helpful. Some people, on the other hand, think guns should have been banned. In some ways, guns may be beneficial, however, for the most part, the United States government should limit ownership, and lend the police more authority to enforce government laws.

One of the most debated topics in the world today is the conflicting belief on whether people should or should not own and use guns. Gun control is generally defined as “laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms” (Gopink, 2012). The views and opinions of this situation vary across the world. Some territories set strict rules and difficult procedures to obtain weapons while others allow easy access. People are usually very opinionated about this subject, causing debates and conflicting reactions. Gun control is one of the most controversial topics with numerous approaches to how it should be handled.

Gun Control in America has been a major debate since 1995. The debate is never ending because there are so many situations that have surfaced, requiring different policies and exceptions. Guns in America have not only provided protection for some citizens but they have also wounded and killed many citizens. Our laws allow for possession of registered guns with a gun license but it is easy to purchase a gun without showing a legal license. We must remember that although guns are used to kill, they are not the root of the problem. Guns are sometimes used as a result of being mentally unstable. We cannot necessarily say if there were tighter gun control laws there would be less gun related fatalities but we can say that it will result in a better understanding of why firearms other problems that are considered dangerous.

There are those who believe that the NRA has too much political pull in Washington. One such case Representative Peter Smith (R-NH) chose to sponsor a bill that would ban assault weapons. This was after telling the NRA that he opposed gun control. The following election the NRA targeted him and he lost his election race. The NRA has an uncanny ability to feed on the fears of the U.S. citizens.

Gun control is the term that describes the use of law to limit people access to any kind of guns, rifles, firearm, etc. through passing law that required checking of criminal record background before purchasing a gun to be registered and many other methods. Many people in American have strong feeling about gun control. The victims of gun violence are high in numbers in the United States of America compared with other countries. Every year, Americans have to bear the massive tragedies of shootings like those that happened in the movie theatre in Colorado and in an elementary school in Connecticut. The shooting incident in Las Vegas weeks ago has raised controversial debates in the United States of America. In fact, the White House is concerned on the stand that President Trump will take on the issue of stricter gun laws. One of the cities that has gained the attention of both the legislators on this topic is Chicago. For its reputation for its low rate of gang arrests, lax punishments for gun law violations, and comparatively weak laws in accordance with surrounding states, it is justifiable to say that Chicago’s daily shootings are a clear indicator that strict state gun laws don’t work.
