The third question was asked to see how many participants seen someone pointing a gun at someone else. This question added fuel to the fire, it engaged the participants even more in the discussion. Two participants stated that they saw someone pointing a real gun at someone else while they were walking down their block. They also, added that it was their first time seeing someone pointing a gun. At this point, they did not know what else to do but run and hide from the person with the gun. This was extremely scary to them because they had never experienced something like this before, besides hearing gun shots but never being a witness of it. Next, two participants never seen someone pointing a real gun at someone else. One participant added,
Gun control is a controversial issue for a long time around the world, particularly in U.S. because of a lots of mass shooting in school and public places. The second Amendment of the U.S. constitution is one of the shortest in all of the bill of right, it was written by the time period of American’s birth and it is the spirit of self-defense that help the new citizens of U.S. win their own freedom from the British. But now as the gun shooting problem happening every day in America, this gun control problem has gradually become to a hot issue. Compare to other countries like Britain, Canada, Japan, China, the difference between U.S. and those countries is in these countries to get a firearm is a very difficult thing
“The right to bear arms”, an amendment so prioritized by our founding fathers that it earned the very second spot on the list of birth rights as Americans. However, with constant tragedies striking the United States, such as massacres in public high schools and universities, mall shootings, and attempted assassinations on state representatives, it’s no wonder law makers are constantly debating the topic of gun control.
On January 25, 2016, at approximately 5:14 P.M., I, Deputy John Arnold, was dispatched to 6424 South 61st West Avenue on a report of a shooting. While en-route to the address, dispatch advised that the call was a suicide.
To suggest guns as a means of self-defense is sometimes criticized as playing unfairly on emotions, and indeed for many there may never come a time that they would imagine using one. But then, it is largely because of
Despite the danger guns are in the hands of criminals, the safety they can provide is hard to measure, but diffidently there. Over nine-hundred eighty nine thousand incidences are reported every year where a firearm was used to prevent a crime, including robberies, rapes, and murders (Geneva, 2000). A study was also done on how likely a felon is to commit a crime with even the possibility that someone else might have a firearm. Around forty-percent of criminals admitted to not committing a crime because they believed that a potential victim might have a firearm. Thirty-four percent of criminals have been had an incident where they were shot at, scared off, wounded or even captured by a victim that was armed (Armed and Considered, 1994). These people were not protected by sign of encouragement or Security Theater. They were saved because they had the ability to protect themselves. There was no one else to protect them but they were allowed to be able to ensure their own
Alaina Gonville was coming home from work late at night. She stopped at a store for a bottle of papaya juice. A scrawny guy walked up, pulled out a pistol and demanded her money. His accomplices were watching from a car behind him. As it happened, Gonville was carrying her Glock .45 openly on her belt. They opened fire on her and she pulled out her gun and returned fire. She was shot with an AK-47 and it basically blew her arm off. She does not know if her carrying a gun saved her life but she was happy she had it.
Guns and Crime, 2012 Formed in 2006, Mayors Against Illegal Guns is a coalition of over 550 mayors who support reforms to fight illegal gun trafficking and gun violence in the United States, while still respecting the Second Amendment. The background check system designed by Congress in 1993 to prohibit dangerous people from purchasing guns is not working effectively. But with the enforcement of critical new regulations, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) could be an effective tool in preventing gun violence. One such regulation would require the names of all people known to be dangerous or criminal be registered in the NICS database, and those
As we know, the world has been suffering from a firearm injury epidemic. Law makers have tried to put in place certain measures that would prevent the risk of using firearm in restricted places. The U.S. citizens have their right by the constitution through the 2nd AMENDEMENT to carry a firearm which has defined, “A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.2 3”. Sanders, Pattison, & John K. (2015), As U.S. citizens, well defines by the 2nd Amendement above we have the right to possess a firearm (Federal Law), but we also have to follow the laws from the State that we all live in. No matter which the law presents itself, there will still be a
Gun control is a very touchy subject. I don't believe that taking the guns away from the law abiding citizens is the correct way to go about this issue. The criminals are the ones not going thru the proper ways to buy a firearm. Right now there are 2 background checks that you go thru to buy a firearm. One is state and the other is federal. The Democrats believe there should be more background checks that potential gun owners should go thru. They also believe that banning certain guns and items for guns will help the issue. The most recent shooting was done with a handgun and a shotgun. There has been a big political debate over the gun control issue. How much is too much and how much is not enough? This is the real question. Some people feel
Hey, Parents! We are excited to introduce a gun safety course for the Boy Scouts at the Guadalupe-Parkway Sommerville Centers. The duration of the program will last four weeks, with the last week being live shooting from a gun range. Our purpose in this gun safety course is to provide our Boy Scouts with knowledge when it comes to firearm safety. We want to teach them how to handle properly a firearm and know what to do in the presences of a firearm.
Gun Control Gun Control has been a highly controversial issue in the United States for the past several decades. From assassinations to mass shootings, every time guns and violence come together the issue resurfaces. Should the nation act on stricter gun laws and legislation? Would new gun laws help or hinder the gun crime rate in the United States? The nation stands divided on the issue; both sides taking a firm stance as to what they believe should be done legislatively with guns. Gun control advocates state that the number ofand different types of guns in the hands of the American public is simply too great. There are an estimated two hundred and forty million guns in circulation across our nation made up of three hundred million citizens. Gun control advocates reason that more guns lead to more gun crime. They site the extremely tight gun laws in countries such as the United Kingdom and Japan and compare the gun number to gun violence ratio. The ratio in those countries is nearly one hundred times lower than that of the United States with .04 gun related deaths per one hundred thousand people compared to the United State’s 3.42 gun related deaths per one hundred thousand people. Furthermore, out of the fourteen deadliest mass shootings in the world, half of them have been committed in the United States. Even though there was a decline in gun related crimes during the 90’s, they have been on the rise since 2005. Currently, the United States ranks twelfth out of one
Gun violence is a growing problem in society today. We need Shot Spotter systems implemented in high crime communities, such as Chicago, Illinois, to improve case closure rates, as well response times by police and first responders. In Chicago, from January 1, 2017 to March 23, 2017 there have already been 658 shooting victims (O'Connell, 2017). Today in a majority of communities, gun violence has to be called in or reported by civilians. Statistics show that only 20% of gun fire is reported (Shot Spotter, 2014). When they are reported, they often do not occur in a timely manner and the information provided is limited or incorrect. As a result, law enforcement agencies waste time following up on incorrect information provided.
Guns. A word that sends shivers down some spines, and reminds others they need to clean theirs. The issue of gun control riles up many across America. Gun control falls under changing the current gun laws in any way that makes them stricter. People can buy any accessory they want whether it is considered harmful or not. It is also known the mentally ill can also easily obtain guns and ammunition. Most of the mass shootings Americans experienced are conducted by the mentally ill. Felons, who legally should not have the ability to obtain guns, can easily obtain them through background check mishaps and private sales. The United States government should slightly limit - not eliminate - civilian access to guns because: certain accesories serve
Although, many people think mental health tests would reduce deaths caused by gun shootings, I think they won’t do much of a difference in the country.
In this article called Gun Safety Group Sees Room to Reinforce Existing Law by Michael D. Shear, he talks about a mass shooting that took place at a coomunity college in Oregon. President Obama adressed to the news that he had to ask his staff to pretty much get rid of the governments gun laws to see if it would prevent more massacres. A group called Everytown for Gun Safety says that President Obama could help protect any future gun victims from attackers, by decidimg to change a few laws made by the government that are in the books. John Feinbatt who is the president of Everytown said that, the white house needs to take steps in making schools safer by keeping criminals away from guns. He also said that the Justice Department should make
