The technology behind gunfire and the mechanisms of firearms is not as complicated as one might think. Almost every gun has to have a Muzzle, a Breech, a Hammer and a Trigger. The Muzzle (or the front) of the gun which is where the bullet comes out of varies in size, thickness, and barrel number depending on the type of firearm. The Breech (or the Back) of the gun either has a spring to make the gun fire, or is where the gun loads from. Earlier guns could only be loaded in the Muzzle and newer firearms load in the Breech with either magazines filled with cartridges or just a few bullets being put in the firearm at a time. The Hammer is the part of the gun that makes contact with the bullets primer which ignites the powder and pushes the bullet …show more content…
The flintlock mechanism is the simplest and most reliable gun ever made. To make this type of gun work you only needed a piece of flint a piece of steel. The four main parts of flint lock guns are a hammer, a mainspring, a frizzen, and a pan. These are the only parts needed to make the gun fire but in order to load the pan, protect it from getting wet and triggering the hammer there are the tumbler which holds and releases the hammer, the sear and sear spring which engage and release the tumbler when the trigger is pulled, and the frizzen spring which holds the cover over the pan to make it weather proof, the mainspring which presses the tumbler and rotates the hammer. The basic goal of this mechanism was to create a spark which would light a small amount of gun powder in the barrel of the gun. In order to make the sparks there was a piece of flint held in the Hammer which was powered by the mainspring, when the trigger is pulled the mainspring moves releasing the hammer which strikes the piece of flint against a piece of steel or iron creating sparks. These sparks go into the “pan” where the gun powder is kept. The gun powder ignites creating a high pressure gas which pushes the bullet out the
A firearm is one of the weapons that may be used when hunting. A firearm utilizes pressure produced from the burning of gunpowder to create gas. The pressure produced from the burning powder propels a projectile out of the barrel at a target. In rifles and most handguns the barrel has rifling on the inside of the barrel to make the projectile spin to travel better in the air. Rifling are groove that spin as they go through the inside of the barrel. Shotgun barrels are smooth and can fire “slugs”, a single projectile, or “shot”,
In 1346, the cannon was invented and by 1350 was a common weapon used by armies in Europe (Movement of gunpowder). After seeing the effects of the cannon, it didn't take long for gunpowder to find its way into portable guns. The first single-shot guns, coming onto the scene in the 1360s and versions of it are used today ubiquitously across the

The Civil War is a harsh part of American history but the life of the soldiers was a real struggle. Most people know that the soldiers had a miserable life but it was far worse than people assume. Weapons weren’t easy to use, training was like starting from scratch and the camp life was miserable. Whether is was the North or the South, life wasn’t easy. Therefore, during the Civil War, the soldiers continued the courageous and daring fight in spite of poorly constructed weapons, labored training, and dreadful living conditions.
Federal law has made the sale of firearms illegal to various individuals who have a history of being mentally unstable and licensed dealers to perform a background check before selling firearms. However, federal law has not made it mandatory for unlicensed sellers (individuals) to perform background checks. Additionally, states have the option of requiring dealers to conduct background checks through state or local agencies or directly through the FBI. States that conduct their own background checks can search records and databases in addition to those that the federal law requires to be searched. Surprisingly, state databases typically include information that is unavailable to the FBI, including outstanding felony warrants, mental health
Gatlings invention of the Gatling Gun originally came from the very same basic idea of the wheat drill that he invented back in l839 when trying to help his father’s farm, which struggled back then, to be more efficient with its time, and money.(Moss). Another invention, however not his own, that lead to the design and concept of the Gatling Gun was the Revolver, a pistol with a spinning barrel that held the bullets. Gatling, wanting to make money took the opportunity and went for it. It wasn’t until after inventing the mechanized seed planting rig that he invented the Gatling Gun (Cavendish). At first things kicked off slow and did not become successful, but as the war grew and people were looking for more innovative ways to fight, the Gatling gun caught a lot of people's attention. With some improvements the gun was soon very popular and in mass production on
In the year 1630 a new way to ignite firearms was invented, it was the flint lock. The flint lock is a rather simple mechanism that has a piece of flint on a spring loaded hammer that rubs on a piece of steel that throws sparks in to a pan of gun powder that leads in to the barrel. One of the only disadvantages of this mechanism is that if it was tipped on its side the gunpowder will fall out recurring more powder or the inability to fire the gun. This did combine the matchlock with the wheel lock to create an effective firearm at a reasonable price.
The purpose of this project is to educate uninformed citizen on the reality of ““assault weapons” and how they are not a danger to the general population. To convey this message, I present information neutrally at first then switch my tone to that of a pro-gun supporter after gaining the trust of the audience. This done to keep anti-gun supporters receptive and leave them vulnerable to persuasion. I also sought to keep the information on my slides brief to draw the viewer's’ attention to the presenter. All this was done with a firm grasp of logos, pathos, and ethos.
Muzzleloaders are the weapons that Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone carried afield with them during their bear hunts, Indian fights, and battles. Today there are two basic types of muzzleloaders used for hunting—primitive and in-line. Both are based upon the premise that the shooter pours powder down the end of the gun barrel, and then rams a slug or ball down on top of it to load the gun.
Second of all, concealed weapons give people the ability to defend themselves in case of an attack. Yet, critics argue, specifically on Armedwithreason.com, that allowing weapons onto premises can result to more guns landing in the hands of criminals, because supposedly criminals are more likely to carry a gun if they suspect their victim is also armed. Despite this idea, it is the right of the people to carry a gun, so that they may protect themselves in case of an attack. Guns resulting in the hands of criminals is the gun shops fault, but that is a whole other debate. If a criminal were to walk into a store armed and threatened to attack, or managed to attack, the victims, so many lives could be saved in that scenario if a person was allowed
Scene to one side or the other pending what side the gun was drawn on, on the person. If its shot up and down then the weapon was fired straight up and down, if it is at an angle then it depends on the angle of the gun where it had been targeted to be aimed towards, then how it was fired from the weapon.

The cartridge is only fired if the firing pin strikes with a certain amount of force. So, it has to come into contact with the cartridge to leave its impressions on the percussion cap. The firing pin strikes the center ring of the cartridge and leaves a distinctive impression that is exclusive to the firing pin of that particular gun. The clearness of the markings of the firing pin will depend on the pressure, which is developed by the cartridge.
The development of weapons is a never ending race driven by fear of another country out gunning you in a war. It is what countries spend a large portion of their budgets on sometimes upwards of 500 billion dollars. Before supersonic jets or nuclear bombs the advancements in guns and firearms were revered as breakthroughs that would slaughter hundreds. A big leap in western gun technology came during the American Civil War as each side struggled to get the upper hand in the war. Born through this fire of combat came the rifle-musket and the minié bullet. What made the weapon so effective was its ability to fire at a decent distance and actually stand a chance at hitting its target.
The US submachine gun is one with a very interesting history. Originally designed in the 1910s for use in the great war, it was meant to be a hand-held machine gun that could be used as a trench broom, a weapon used to clean trenches of enemies. In WW2, the thompson became extremely popular, so much so that US soldiers would often take the gun from dead soldiers due to its stopping
