GUNS ARE BEST CONTROLLED BYGOOD AIM.
Guns, like many other issues of the day, have two distinct opposing views with many people in the gray area. Even when looking at a tragic situation, people will have two opposite spins on it. For example, a suicidal madman on top of the Empire State Building kills six people including himself with a gun. Gun-control advocates think that outlawing guns would have stopped the killing from ever happening. Pro-gun advocates think that it would have been stopped by innocent people being armed and fighting back. In order for an issue to even be at hand, both sides must agree that there is a problem with guns and gun control. Both gun-control and pro-gun advocates do agree there is a problem, pro-gunners

A gun is a device, a tool if you will, which uses, air or it uses a spark that starts a chemical reaction, which in turn shoots a projectile at a high rate of speed. Knowing what a gun is, why don't they fit into our society?
Our society is comprised of many different races of people all living together inside the boarders of the United States of America. The American society is about 220 years old and came into existence at the time of the writing of the constitution of the Unites States. The founding fathers knew that the people needed a way to protect themselves from many outside forces. Some of these forces included wild animals, unscrupulous people and a corrupt federal government. When the constitution was composed we were just starting out as a country, trying to gain true freedom from England. That is why we have the 2nd amendment. It says “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. The right of the people, read society, to maintain a well regulated militia shall not be infringed. The federal government in turn protects the people from the states’ corrupt government.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word militia? Chances are you think of the Militia of Montana or the Michigan Militia. You might conjure up an image of a bunch of guys who are running around in the woods with guns. Gun-control
The right to bear arms is a birth given right to all Americans by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Second Amendment has become controversial recently due to the technological advancement of firearms. Modern firearms are capable of both high rates of fire and greater capacities of ammunition, unlike the single shot muskets that were available at the time of the Second Amendment’s conception. American liberals view these improvements in firearms as dangerous and unnecessary. However, no matter how dangerous firearms may be, the Second Amendment is a necessity for one factor alone: protection from one’s own government and it must be upheld. The Second Amendment provides a physical tool for Americans to defend themselves against a tyrannical government, it allows Americans to form militias against a tyrannical government, and it allows Americans to maintain comparable firearms of the U.S. government in order to prevent the potential loss of American freedoms in the future.
Now lets ask ourselves, what does the second amendment mean? Who gets to keep and bear arms? One side focuses on the phrase “A well-regulated militia” to argue that only people who are in a militia such as the National Guard have the right to bear arms. The other side focuses on the phrase “The right of the people” to argue that law-abiding citizens, whether or not they are in a militia have the right to bear arms. Who’s correct? For further insight, the wisdom and prudence of our founding fathers proves to be instructive, as they lived in this influential time. In the Federal Farmer number 28, Richard Henry Lee wrote, “A militia when properly formed are in fact the people themselves.” In congruence with Richard’s thinking Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter to James Madison saying, “What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve
Well, it seems like society has taken sides on this issue. On June 23, 2016, a radio hostess, Jasmin Tuffaha, from AirTalk interviewed Adam Winkler, a UCLA gun policy and politics scholar, on gun violence and the groups formed around it. The question that was asked was why the NRA and other groups like them are so large on one side and the other side is so broken. He said, “gun rights people are more cohesive because they are united by a hobby and lifestyle. As for the gun control people, they are united by a policy position and sometimes because of the unfortunate situation of being a victim of gun violence”(Winkler). In other words, what the gun control advocates need to do to get their voices heard, is to be just as politically active and financed as the gun lobbyists. The pro-gun advocates will always have the advantage over society unless the gun control advocates band together and counter
“Americans are deeply divided over the Second Amendment. Some passionately assert that the Amendment protects an individual’s right to own guns. Others, that it does no more than protect the right of states to maintain militias” (Cornell). The Second Amendment of the constitution gives citizens the right to bear arms, and is therefore one of the most important laws of the nation. This amendment holds an important value to our nation because, it prevents tyranny but, it also protects, spreads, and contributes to the causes of human rights. Over the past years there’s been controversy among the people and the true meaning of the Second Amendment. The understanding of the Second Amendment was to be a civic right in which who keep and bear arms will need to meet a legal obligation of participating in a well-regulated militia (Cornell 2). The definition for a well-regulated militia means to provide help in which involves carrying out the laws of the union, end rebellions against the government and protect against invasions. Thus, the Second Amendment shaped the country in which we live today. This country is bound on civil rights and individual freedom. In the book A Well Regulated Militia by Saul Cornell the debates in 1780-1850 took part into shaping what it will become the Second Amendment. This is because gun ownership will be seen as a civic obligation. Gun ownership is a civic obligation because it brings the need for protecting the nation. Shay’s rebellion was one of the
The Second Amendment to the U.S Constitution is fiercely debated and interpreted differently among American citizens and argued with between the Legislative and Judicial branches of our government. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” (Brooks). Because of the Second Amendment, citizens have the right to possess firearms and use them for protection. When researching the origin of the Second Amendment, its modern applications, and its relevance in today’s society, one can determine the Second Amendment’s current implications on today’s society.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This amendment has been understood amongst the American people, as simply “the right to bear arms”. The creation of the United States constitution was left in the hands of young men whom had served in the Continental Army prior to the draft of the historical document. Having witnessed the violence of the Revolution, these Federalists had the fear of suffering from a weak centralized government. “Anti-federalists”, members that opposed the Constitution, feared that this new government could build one centralized professional army, disarming the 13 state militias.
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This is the second amendment, the right to bear arms. Throughout history, it has been, seen as one of the most controversial and significant pieces of text in the United States Constitution with many debating over its meaning, context, and role in modern society. Since its ratification, Americans have been arguing over the amendment's meaning and interpretation. One side interprets the amendment to mean it provides for collective rights, while the opposing view is that it provides individual rights. Although the meaning of the second amendment continues to be a hot-button issue for both sides of the aisle one thing is certain, the role that it plays in the American way of life and the lives that it has affected remains a critical aspect of
When the data on gun related crime and incidents is properly analyzed, it becomes very obvious that the gun, in and of itself, is not one of the roots of the problems that plague modern society. The failure of the anti-gun advocates to recognize that vast corpus of contrary scholarship reflects that fact that the " Great American Gun War is really a culture conflict.
To begin, the main issue with gun control is that there is an issue of freedom and common good. They are both created so that society would not fall apart. When it
According to The Second Amendment of the Constitution, the citizens of the United States have the right to own and bear arms, in order to form a well-regulated militia for the security of the states. This right has been discussed for decades as an important issue for the American society, and it has been one of the most controversial issues in the second half of the twentieth century until nowadays. This right germinated with the threat to freedom that the standing army of professional soldiers brought to the Americans. Some argued that the right to bear arms is mainly concerned with self-defense while others argued that this right was implemented to avoid militia disarmament and protect the Free State. This right was
The handgun control debate demonstrates, a division into two sharply contrasting groups or sets of opinions or beliefs. In parts, of the country, shooting and hunting are a way of life for others they have no use in everyday life. Many people believe the gun violence problem could be fixed by passing stricter gun laws. This sparked a national conversation on gun control because mass shootings are becoming common in today's society. Many businesses are introducing universal background checks, and barring gun sales to people convicted of violent offenses. Gun control solutions are deeply divided along political lines. Gun control ownership vs protecting gun rights is the main deliberation. I believe in a society with hundreds of cultures, differences and arguments can arise out easily. It's best to control gun ownership rather than protecting the right of Americans to own guns. Guns give people power, with power inevitably becomes abuse. When President Obama called for new gun restrictions, the majority of gun owners feared that the federal government wanted to take away their right to own firearms; that increased
Today, the debate on owning a gun has many sides: there are many positives and negatives that come into play when talking about gun control. Gun control is a very controversial issue, however, with the right prevention steps one could relax knowing that the situation is finally being addressed. Most citizens have the right to have a gun other than felons. Felons have no rights to a gun and can not own or have one in their possession. Many people have their own feeling on guns on if they should have to be registered or not. Gun control comes across bad to citizens considering the fact that, the government has full rang over the decision on it. When talking about gun control there are many step to take, in many people 's eyes, from if gun
Guns are a very controversial topic for almost all people. There is a good amount of people who are progun, for reasons such as self-defense, hunting, and so on. There is also a good amount of people who are antigun, for reasons such as they kill people, they are dangerous, and so on. The people who own them, view guns as tools or toys, vs. the people who are scared of them, view them as killing machines. There are many different views, thoughts, and opinions on guns, but there is only one that is right.
Some people think guns are the problem to all shootings, But many people believe guns just play a role in a much bigger picture. One thing that people don't take in account is that you can't regulate guns as severely as cars. Guns can legally be sold at garage sales or even pawn shops, so regulating who has who is nearly impossible. It's a constitutional right to bear arms, it's also not illegal to sell guns without consulting the
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Bill of Rights). This is the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution. This is a document that grants all Americans certain inalienable rights. All citizens no matter their age or standing in society have some understanding of the Bill of Rights and the freedoms that it allows. One freedom that is granted to us, the right to bear arms, has become the center of a heated issue in today’s society and many years before. The majority of citizens have felt the impacts of guns, either positive or negative, during some point of their life. It is because of the fact that guns are a part of
