Everybody knows that good habits need to be cultivated while bad habits seem to grow like weeds. Habits like self-discipline, self-control, order, and perseverance, are all habits that require a conscious effort to create and maintain. Procrastination on the other hand, is a behavior takes no effort at all. For better or worse, it's your habits that make or break you.
The amount of self-help information available today is virtually unlimited, but it is of little value without first learning to direct your focus and attention. The mind moves constantly from one idea to the next with amazing speed, rarely giving its sole attention to one subject for any length of time. Yet success in anything depends largely on the ability to direct your mind; not only where it goes, but also how long it stays there.
Success, like anything else, must be learned and practiced. A habit starts out as no more than a thought. When

Routines are what form your habits. Examine what is working for you and what is not. Just as with a garden cultivating good habits will also take time and attention. You need to nurture the flowers in your life and start pulling the weeds. If something is not working for you, get rid of it!
If you wish to be successful in anything you do, follow the clues.
Study the habits of successful people. It is the habits we create that make us who we are. One habit all successful people have in common is the ability to focus their attention for extended periods of time.
How do you make focus a habit? Start small and work up.
Resist the impulse to jump from one unfinished project to another. Write out a priority list and pay particular attention to the order of that list. Do not let petty distractions interfere with working through each task in the order you have established. When you overcome the temptation to let your focus and efforts become scattered, you are creating the habit of finishing projects and seeing them through to the
Over the summer, I read a book titled, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Convey. The seven habits described in this book were being proactive, Beginning with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood; synergize, and sharpen the saw. The first habit Being proactive means not to make choices on impulse. it means to evaluate the situation before making a desicion. for example, two years ago when i had friends that talked behind my back i just moved on and found better friends rather than be mean to them or excluding them out of my way. The second habit Beginning with the end in mind means to think ahead at what your goals are and start working towards them. My goal for the eight grade year was to recieve a 95% or higher score in all of my classes. in order to realize this goal i worked hard through the year on assignments and and sometimes did more than what was expected of me during projects. in the end, though,
ATTITUDE: Always have a positive attitude. Remember success is 10% ability and 90% attitude! If you think that you can achieve, then you can achieve.
Habit as defined in Webster’s as a: a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition or physiologic exposure that shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance b : an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary (Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online, 2011). Behavior is the manner of conducting oneself or anything that an organism does involving action and response to stimulation. In everyday life habits are formed and intertwined with ones behavior. People are often associated with the way they behave
People achieve their goals through hard work. Michael Jordan isn't great basketball player because he was born that way. Marissa Mayer, a former Google executive, didn't get to her spot without any effort. When I started playing guitar, I didn't learn the instrument without any work. Instead of luck, it's through dedication, perseverance, and commitment that people succeed.
Carol Dweck said, “People may start with different attitudes and different aptitudes, but it is clear that experience, training, and personal effort take them the rest of the way.” Therefore, that's saying that if your not focus on what you need to do, you’re not going anywhere in your life. Robert Sternberg said,”The present-day guru of intelligence writes that the major factor in whether people achieve expertise is not some fixed prior ability, but purposeful engagement lots of practice or as his forerunner, Binet, recognized, it’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.” However, if you build your confidence and set your mind on something you will
If one practices enough, then one will be able to do anything he sets his mind to. People who wish to achieve success must be willing to spend the time on what they wish to reach success in. For one to be successful in what he wishes to do he must be good at what they are trying to be successful in. The only way to be good is to practice, practice, practice.
But the reason behind why I want to improve this goal right now is because once you are used to a habit it is very hard to get away from it. My strategies in achieving these goals are: by writing things down, making schedules and deadlines and always giving everything a home, for example putting a pencil or USB where they belong. In addition, after achieving this goal I believe that it will make me a better learner for example, I will have more time for myself, my friends and my family, I will achieve balance in my life and improve my professional life.
First, a person must be honest with themselves and recognize that they are procrastinating. After coming to the realization that one is a procrastinator, make a to do list with low priority tasks; work out why you procrastinate, by
“7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens” ,written by Sean Covey, is about 7 habits. The first habit is Be Proactive, second is Begin with the End In Mind, next is Put First Things First, fourth is Think Win-Win. Then there is the fifth habit, Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, sixth is Synergize, and lastly the seventh habit is Sharpen the Saw. I learned to listen and pay attention to the person speaking. That way you can get to know the person and yourself better. Pay attention to someone’s actions. I learned to come out of my comfort zone and explore the world around me. To be kinder to others and respect their choices. That’s what I learned in “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.”
The habits of mind might better be termed the habits of a perfected mind since most have not acquired all of these habits. The two selected for this paper are persistence and precision. Both are difficult to embed because they require disciple and mental toughness. This paper discusses the connection between the two and how they can be defeated if a student is distracted from them.
Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, “Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly heavy.”(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co-workers around the world. Nothing seems to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future.
Habit 2 : Begin With the End in Mind. The habit of personal leadership. In this habit, we begin each day, week, project, etc. with a clear vision of our direction and destination. This habit inculcates the ability to create our desired results mentally first in accordance to our guiding principles, and then maintain this vision throughout our daily activities. Part of the process of developing this habit is to develop a personal mission statement, philosophy, or creed. This mission statement focus on what you want to be and do. Your planning activities then can always be refer back to this mission statement so you can maintain a proper perspective on where you are headed and how you hope to get there. This
We tend to think of habits as bad (smoking, cussing, biting your fingernails) but they can also be good (walking the dog, oatmeal for breakfast, a weekly date with your spouse). THE POWER OF HABIT shows how easily habits form. They rely on three simple things–a cue, a routine, and a reward–and don’t take long to stick. Our brains love habits. They allow us to be efficient. They help us do things like drive a car without constant self-monitoring. Once we learn where the brake pedal is and how hard to press the
What is a habit? A habit is a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. Every person has a habit. From small, non dangerous, habits like biting nails or high pitched laughing, to dangerous ones such as smoking, drinking, and reckless behavior. Habits can go un-noticed by people because they vary in seriousness. Breaking habits varies greatly. It can be as simple as not doing something in the morning, to stopping drugs and alcohol.
your paradigms and the paradigms of them. This way you will more likely have a stronger influence. My second recommendation to myself is to stay focused on what matters the most to me. This recommendation came in to my mind after reading the second habit: Begin With the End in Mind. This habit taught me how to live with a purpose. It is based on the principle that things need to be created mentally before they are physically created. For example, a plane is first created in someone’s mind before it is actually built. Effective people determine their own futures. First, they mentally plan it according to their values and principles. Second, they physically create it through their positive actions and behaviors. During my college life, I have always had busy weeks in which I had to deal with lots of exams, home woks, quizzes, and projects. In such weeks, I tend to spend all my time only doing my school responsibilities. However, as Stephen Covey says in the second habit, “most people on their death beds don’t wish they had spent more time at the office!” By the end of each semester, I see myself getting good grades but still not satisfied because deep in my
